0.0000001% Demon King - 0DK Chapter 52: A Human’s Warfare (4) (Part 1)
The soldiers could not possibly match the might of Sor and the mercenaries. Their power was indeed formidable and would be useful in future human wars.
However, the presence of Vivaldi was even more valuable.
Irina’s domain lacked talented individuals. Most had been exiled or executed by the previous lord for offending him.
Above all, Karos’s identity was also a problem. The more one delved into the domain’s affairs, the more oddities they would notice, eventually leading to the discovery of his true nature. It was difficult to increase the number of people privy to the secret.
These two issues combined meant they still couldn’t significantly increase their retinue.
‘But…’
Vivaldi was smart. Even without proper education, he could instinctively distinguish between good and bad.
Moreover, he had made a contract with Karos. There was no need to worry about secrets being leaked.
‘We can make good use of him.’
Karos smirked darkly. Unaware of Karos’s thoughts, Vivaldi spoke leisurely.
“It will be over soon.”
“Already? It’s been less than twenty minutes.”
“Such fights are always like this. The center is already half-collapsed.”
The central wall had been reduced by half due to Sor’s efforts.
“Just tell the brothers to charge. Once the lord is captured, it’s over.”
* * *
“Sigh.”
Sor sighed at his pitiful situation.
“To think I am taking orders from the Demon King.”
He didn’t possess the sense of justice typical of heroes. If he had, he wouldn’t have become a mercenary in the first place.
However, there was a feeling of unease. He swung his axe gloomily.
“Aaaah!”
“Uaaaah!”
Enemy soldiers fell like dominoes. Sor clicked his tongue at the difference in power.
“I feel sorry for bullying these weaklings.”
“Brother.”
A mercenary relayed orders to Sor in a whisper.
“Little brother says you can finish it now.”
“Is that so.”
Sor tensed his entire body. His muscles swelled even more, causing the enemy soldiers to step back in shock.
“Guys! Who are we?”
Sor shouted. The mercenaries responded.
“We are mercenaries!”
“And who is our current employer?”
“Lady Irina! And…!”
Many mercenaries swallowed the rest of their words, looking gloomy.
Following the Demon King to attack humans didn’t sit well with many of them.
“But we are mercenaries!”
Sor shouted again.
“Who do we follow?”
“…Our employer.”
“That’s right! We’re mercenaries, not thinkers! We are followers!”
Sor gripped his axe with both hands.
He was simple-minded, almost to the point of being called stupid.
But a leader must lead his subordinates clearly.
“Don’t think!”
At times like this, his simplicity was a great strength. At Sor’s words, the mercenaries’ eyes began to steady.
“We only follow orders! Leave the headaches to our younger brother!”
There were chuckles, but the previous gloom was gone. They gripped their spears with serious eyes.
“Let’s go, guys!”
Sor strode forward.
* * *
“Good. Very good.”
Stukov Isaac jiggled his flabby body as he sat in his splendid chair. He smiled in satisfaction as he watched the battlefield.
“I didn’t expect it to be this easy.”
He hadn’t considered the possibility of losing. With a difference of nearly fifty in numbers, it would be strange to lose. His eyes saw only victory as he watched the battlefield.
“I couldn’t attack because the surroundings were bothersome, but they came at the perfect time. God must love me dearly.”
He had always wanted to devour Irina’s domain. It was the closest and, if he attacked, he had the overwhelming strength to win.
But he hadn’t been able to. Irina’s domain wasn’t the only one nearby. With similar strengths, even if he took Irina’s land, it would be taken back.
While he was agonizing over what to do, a letter arrived.
The message was simple: attack Irina’s domain and the cleanup would be handled.
Seeing the seal, he was ecstatic. He decided his time had finally come and sent a letter to Irina.
And now he had arrived.
“First, I’ll take the domain, extort taxes to increase my soldiers, and then get rid of all the bothersome nearby domains.”
He recalled Irina’s face, licking his lips as his imagination ran wild.
Then a roar erupted.
“Aaah! Aaaaah! Aaaaaah!”
“What, what is that!”
Startled, Stukov looked at the battlefield.
“Aaaaaah!”
Sor charged with a roar. Behind him, mercenaries thrust their spears, clearing a path.
“What is that!”
Stukov screamed. Sor’s axe created breaches with each movement. Sor approached rapidly, and Stukov shrieked.
“Stop him! Stop him, I say!”
Soldiers screamed, raising their shields. Dozens of soldiers clustered together to concentrate their strength. Even cavalry would struggle to break through.
But Sor sneered.
“With this!”
His hands tightened around the axe.
He was not weak. There were few humans who could stop someone who had endured countless missions and battlefields. Although he had been easily defeated by Sinclair and Bathesia, it was because they were beyond human comprehension.
He hadn’t merely failed to withstand Sinclair’s first blow.
He had ‘blocked’ it.
He hadn’t only endured Bathesia’s onslaught for ten minutes.
He had endured ‘ten minutes.’
A man who could withstand the attacks of monsters with a human body. That was Sor, the leader of the lowest mercenary group.
The axe struck down. The ground shook as if an earthquake had occurred. Soldiers simultaneously collapsed.
“You!”
“Eeeeek!”
Sor and Stukov’s eyes met. Sor leapt over the collapsed soldiers and charged at Stukov.
“Give me your head!”
“Spare, spare me!”
Sor swung his axe. He caught Stukov’s head as it flew through the air and shouted.
“Your master is dead! Surrender!”
Seeing Stukov’s head in Sor’s hand, the soldiers dropped their spears. Karos, watching from afar, was horrified.
“What is that bastard doing!”
