A Frontline Soldier Awakened as a Gamer In The War! - FSAGW Chapter 124 (Part 1)
Fzzzt!
The lightning magic initiated from the scroll shot toward the swamp at a speed that would have been imperceptible if Kaiyan hadn’t activated his perception acceleration in advance.
“Kuwaak?”
The Kuma, half-submerged in the swamp’s outskirts and asleep, were awakened by the light.
‘It’s too late.’
Fzzzt!
“Kuwaak!”
“Kuek!”
The moment the yellow light touched the swamp, it expanded like fire spreading to a tree, and illuminating a part of the swamp in an instant. Along with the Kuma brutes’ screams.
“Ooh… I wasn’t expecting much from a 5th circle, but… it’s better than I thought?”
A 5th circle magic would be considered between the levels of an advanced and a top-tier aura expert by the standards of a knight.
Of course, this was possible due to the swamp acting as a medium, but the magic seemed impressive for damaging hundreds of the Kuma.
This was a range attack that would be impossible even if Kaiyan activated Blaze Armor and launched Aura swing.
[Still, only a few of them died!]
“You can’t expect a single 5th circle spell to kill them all. Shall we begin then?”
Kuwaaaak!
After swinging the sword he hadn’t used in a while a few times into the air, Kaiyan walked towards the kuma rushing at him with red eyes filled with rage.
The Kuma, with their brown and green skin burnt to a charred black.
Crunch!
Kaiyan lowered his stance and pulled back his sword towards the Kuma charging through the swamp with rapid splashes.
‘Uncle Jeff used to say.’
-Kaiyan, remember that gaining the upper hand is crucial when facing monsters. Monsters keep attacking when they think they’re facing someone weaker than themselves.
Unlike humans, monsters are creatures faithful to their instincts.
They bow their heads to stronger predators and prey on the weaker ones, a world of survival of the fittest.
“Kraaaak!”
“Huh…! Who do you think I am…?”
Kaiyan took a deep breath and swung his arm forward, fully activating his aura.
Boooom!
As he swung his sword horizontally, An Aura swing, sharper and sleeker than before, sliced through the bodies of the Kuma charging at him and advanced towards the swamp.
It was a precise control of aura that would have been impossible 30 days ago.
“I’ll make sure you remember this well.”
Kwaaaaang!
The Aura swing, after slicing through dozens of the Kuma, exploded upon hitting the swamp, revealing its muddy bottom as it created a huge splash. The swamp, which was about 1.2 meters deep, was momentarily exposed.
“Kuwaak…!”
“Kuek…!”
Kuma hit by the aura fell, face-first into the swamp.
Apparently, more Kuma plunged into the swamp than Kaiyan had anticipated, already weakened by the magic.
“Huh…!”
[You’re overdoing it! We don’t know when the swamp will disappear, you should conserve your aura more…]
Rieka, seemingly worried about Kaiyan’s recklessness from the start, suggested retreating. But,
“It’s okay. I haven’t just been playing around all this time.”
During the 30 days in Havnheim, Kaiyan hadn’t wielded a sword but had always used his aura while practicing with his fists.
What he gained was a detailed ability to control aura and a deeper understanding of the Maeslin Aura Manual, which he had only partially grasped before.
“I still have plenty of aura.”
Despite using a more powerful Aura swing than before, his body was still brimming with much more aura, bubbling and bursting with power.
Efficient use of aura and continuous absorption over 30 days made this possible.
“And……”
“Kuwaak!”
As the Kuma, startled by the explosion, gathered their wits and charged again,
“There’s no need to worry with so many monsters to catch.”
[Uh… Okay!]
“Then…!”
Fwip fwip fwip!
Kaiyan smiled at Rieka before leaping towards the swamp, kicking off the ground.
The swamp is their territory. The moment he steps into it, he needs to be on full alert.
Splish.
“Kraak?”
“Right, surprised?”
As Kaiyan entered the swamp, the charging Kuma hesitated, looking at him as if questioning his sanity.
‘I hope the spirits hurry up.’
Without the spirits, this would be an insane act to attempt.
The swamp, already reaching up to his chest, started to constrain his movements, especially its sticky bottom.
“Kuak! Kraak!”
“Huh…!”
Swinging his sword towards a Kuma that came too close, the sword moved slower than
usual due to the swamp. Thankfully, his shoulders were not submerged, allowing for that speed.
Had he been fully submerged, the Kuma’s claws would have torn him apart before he could swing his sword, as they become as strong as ogres in the swamp.
Pfwah!
“Kuek!!”
“…Missed.”
The Kuma screamed as one of its arms, which Kaiyan originally aimed to slice along with its neck, got severed. On flat ground, such a feat would have been easily achievable, but it became challenging in the swamp.
Wooong!
As he prepared for another attack, a small magic circle appeared overhead.
[Kaiyan! It’s Haste magic!]
“Great! Haaaap!”
Feeling as if the swamp’s constriction lessened, his speed increased. With this newfound agility, Kaiyan swung his sword at the Kuma charging from both sides.
Swoosh!
“Cough…!”
Utilizing the largest amount of aura he could muster through his sword, he swiftly beheaded the brutes, who collapsed into the swamp, green blood mixing with the muddy water, still in their attacking pose.
The Kuma now fell with a single blow, unlike before.
‘Good. Let’s gather as many of them as possible.’
Splish splash.
He moved deeper into the swamp, knocking down The Kuma one by one, to prevent them from escaping even if the swamp disappeared.
“Krrrr…!”
After taking down perhaps 200? 300? He hadn’t leveled up, so it couldn’t have been more than 500.
“Haah… Haah…! Why still…?”
The problem was, despite killing so many, there was no change in the swamp.
