Embracing Magic - E.M Chapter 113 (Part 2)
“It’s fine. You’re young, it’s only natural to be curious. Let’s get to eating. My lord, everything’s ready.”
“Let’s eat.”
The tense atmosphere quickly lightened as they began their meal. It was just like any other day.
Bianca chatted as usual, Larry occasionally chimed in, and Matthew took care of Bianca and Larry with his usual warmth.
Karis and Jena ate too, though they stored the food within themselves, having agreed with Rodin to eat like everyone else in appearance.
“Uncle Matthew, you’re the best.”
“Look at you, getting it all over your face.”
Matthew wiped Bianca’s mouth as she grinned, resembling a doting father and daughter.
After the meal, Larry promptly picked up his sword, ready to start training.
“Everyone, get in the other carriage. That includes you, Matthew.”
“Why, Rodin?”
“There are more spells I want to engrave on the other carriage. Oh, Larry. I made this one into an aura training room. Don’t skip your training from now on.”
“An aura training room? I thought we requested one from the Cardos Sword hall before?”
The Richmond Marquess had commissioned Cardos sword Hall to create an aura training room, an expense that cost them considerably.
But aura and mana training rooms alike were both artifacts crafted by mages. Since Rodin was adept at magic circles, creating an aura training room wasn’t unexpected.
Initially, however, Rodin hadn’t known exactly what spells were used in aura training rooms.
He had only used one briefly during an aura aptitude test at the special forces training center, without a full grasp of its magical composition.
Yet, with the family’s installation of the room, he could examine it thoroughly.
It didn’t take long for him to understand the magical circles used in aura training rooms.
“That was then. Now I can make one myself. It should work well enough.”
“But isn’t a training room supposed to be a personal space?”
“Only if you don’t want distractions. Just ask people to step out while you train.”
There was no risk of interference in this group, where everyone was trustworthy. No one would barge in and disrupt his training.
Rodin had even installed a simple lock on the door to signal when someone was inside.
“Big brother Rodin, are you going to make a mana training room, too?”
“I am. That’s why I asked everyone to switch carriages.”
“Oh, got it. How long will it take?”
Since leaving Richmond, Larry and Bianca had trained without the benefits of a training room. Naturally, the lack of efficiency was noticeable.
As much as they enjoyed the journey, they couldn’t help but feel the absence of proper training.
Now, they would finally have what they’d been missing.
“Two days, maybe? You should be able to use it by the evening then.”
“Can’t wait!”
“Miss it already? It’s only been two days.”
“A little. Hang in there, Big Brother Rodin!”
With the dishes washed and the cooking tools put away, thanks to Matthew’s effort, they had finished the clean-up after lunch.
The whole group switched carriages. Rodin got into the one driven by Jena, while the others joined Karis.
“Wow!”
The moment Larry got in, he noticed the unique feel of the space. Without even beginning his training, he could sense the aura within him being stimulated.
“Larry, why’s your face so weird?”
“Hehehe.”
“Uncle Matthew, I think Larry’s gone crazy.”
“Probably because it helps him train.”
Matthew wasn’t fazed.
Larry had always been passionate about swordsmanship, aura, and training, so Matthew didn’t think much of it.
*
Their journey along the main road went smoothly.
Though the day was hot, the interior of the carriage was cool, thanks to the temperature control magic Rodin had cast.
Inside the carriage Jena was driving, Rodin diligently engraved magic circles. Jena drove as carefully as possible, mindful not to disrupt his work.
Swish!
Rodin suddenly paused, sensing a faint clash of mana up ahead.
“Jena.”
“Yes, my lord.”
“There seems to be a fight up ahead. Slow down and let Karis know.”
“Understood, my lord.”
Both Karis and Jena were magical constructs animated by mana, pseudo-masters created through magical circles. While their combat ability rivaled that of skilled masters, they had limitations outside of battle.
Their inability to sense the skirmish up ahead as quickly was one of those drawbacks. A true master would have detected it just as quickly, if not faster, than Rodin.
“Hmm.”
The carriage slowed. They continued moving forward but were gradually approaching the area of disturbance.
Sounds of weapon clashing echoed in the distance. Powerful bursts of mana could be felt; it seemed both swordsmen and mages were engaged in combat.
“I feel vibrations.”
“A spell went off. It looks like a Fireball.”
The carriage rounded a hill on a gently winding path, and they could see the fight up ahead with their own eyes.
“Rodin, what’s going on?”
“There’s a fight up ahead.”
“Should we stay in the carriage?”
“Do what you prefer.”
If he were alone, he would have ordered them to stay put to ensure their safety.
But with Karis and Jena, who both had greater raw combat strength than he did, there was no need to worry about Larry, Bianca, or Matthew.
“My lord. It’s a beast.”
“They’re struggling.”
There were five beasts. Opposing them were forty mercenaries, a single mage, and two knights of a level comparable to third-grade swordsmen.
And yet, they were losing ground.
Each beast was powerful. The two third-grade swordsmen were each holding off a beast, but they were barely managing.
In a little while, it was clear the defense would collapse.
“What should we do?”
“Bring me the one on the left. Don’t kill it; just injure it enough.”
“Understood.”
Jena gracefully leaped down from the driver’s seat, showing no sign of tension.
Karis didn’t even glance in Jena’s direction, knowing she was more than capable of handling a beast.
