Embracing Magic - E.M Chapter 127 (Part 2)
“At least there wasn’t any conflict. Hm? When did this start glowing?”
Rodin showed Jena the bracelet on his left wrist. After a moment’s thought, Jena recalled the faint glow from about an hour earlier.
“Roughly an hour ago.”
“We move now. The kids are in danger.”
“Understood.”
“Jito, locate the children… there they are.”
Jito had already scouted Larry and Bianca’s location. Sharing Jito’s vision, Rodin saw the scene of Kendrick beating them mercilessly.
“Move at full speed. Follow me.”
“Yes, my lord.”
Rodin immediately cast Fly to avoid obstacles and travel swiftly. Karis and Jena followed closely, sprinting at full tilt.
Farther away, Francis, the master of the Landes Tower, also stood abruptly.
“What’s going on?”
“The mage who just completed his body restructuring woke up and headed east. We don’t yet know why.”
“Leave one unit behind; the rest, follow me.”
Francis, too, took flight with magic, followed by the Landes Tower’s mages.
*
In terrain filled with obstacles, magic users had a clear advantage. The Fly spell allowed mages to maintain speed and avoid hindrances as long as they had mana.
Rodin’s unmatched speed left even Francis struggling to keep up. A veteran seventh-circle mage of over a decade, Francis found himself being left behind by a newly ascended seventh-circle mage.
“How is this possible?”
Rodin’s abundant mana, bolstered by the mana absorbed from Matthew and the underground ruins, far surpassed that of an ordinary seventh-circle mage.
He sustained his Fly spell at maximum speed, showing no signs of slowing. Meanwhile, Francis, exhausted from several minutes of flight, was nearly out of mana.
“I’ve seen enough. Extraordinary, truly extraordinary.”
Just as Francis considered stopping, he felt an overwhelming surge of magical energy ahead. A seventh-circle spell, without a doubt.
*
Kendrick’s distraction cost him. The overwhelming force of Rodin’s Air Drill shattered his Impact Barrier with ease, grazing his shoulder and forcing him back.
Rodin stood at the clearing’s edge, his hooded figure exuding cold fury.
“You dare lay a hand on my siblings?”
“You finally show yourself, boy!” Kendrick sneered, unaware of the danger looming before him.
“Finally, we meet.”
“You seem eager to die, so let me oblige.”
“Hah, a mere fourth-circle mage dares to act so boldly.”
Kendrick couldn’t fathom the possibility of Rodin being stronger than him. He convinced himself that the destruction of his Impact Barrier was due to some mistake on his part, not the strength of Rodin’s magic.
“Elder, let us handle this,” one of the Cedria Tower mages offered.
“No need. I’ll deal with him myself.” Kendrick waved off the suggestion.
The Cedria Tower mages spread out to either side of Kendrick, glaring at Rodin. It was a display meant to exert pressure through sheer numbers.
Thud. Thud.
Just then, two figures appeared at Rodin’s side—a man in his early thirties and a woman in her mid-twenties.
“My lord, allow me to handle this.”
“I’ll take care of it. Karis isn’t in the best condition.”
Rodin turned to look at Karis when her health was mentioned. The wounds she’d sustained from the colossal beast were still evident.
“Hmm, a potion won’t do?”
“No, my lord. Something stored in the necklace’s spatial compartment might work better.”
“I delayed too much because of me.”
“It’s fine.”
As they conversed briefly, Jena stepped forward, ready to fight. However, Rodin placed a hand on her shoulder.
“No. This is my issue to settle.”
“My lord, your problems are our problems as well.”
“Even so, I need to deal with this myself. You two, focus on rescuing the children.”
“Understood, my lord.”
Rodin handed healing potions to Karis and Jena before stepping forward. Karis and Jena split to either side, heading toward Larry and Bianca.
“Oh-ho, so you had allies after all? It doesn’t matter—more bodies to bury, that’s all. Well then, young mage, let’s see you dance for me.”
Kendrick sneered and took a step forward.
Rodin raised his hand, his expression cold. “You don’t seem to understand the weight of your actions.”
*
“Ugh… ugh…”
Larry and Bianca barely clung to life, their bodies battered and bloody. Their shallow breathing made it clear they were at death’s door.
Karis reached Bianca first, pouring the potion down her throat with practiced care. The liquid worked instantly, sealing her wounds and stabilizing her breathing.
“Hold on, Bianca. You’re safe now,” Karis whispered.
Jena, meanwhile, crouched beside Larry, whose condition was even more critical. The potion took effect, but his battered body was slow to respond.
“You’re going to be fine. Just stay with me,” Jena murmured softly, carefully supporting him.
“Move faster! What’s taking so long?” Rodin’s voice rang out from the front.
“Almost there!” Karis shouted back, focusing on Bianca.
*
Kendrick chanted a spell under his breath, a massive fiery aura forming around him.
“You dare stand against me? Let’s see how long your arrogance lasts!” Kendrick roared as he unleashed Inferno Blaze, a devastating fifth-circle fire spell.
Rodin didn’t flinch. With a calm wave of his hand, he countered with Hydro Spear, a seventh-circle water spell he’d improvised on the spot.
The condensed water spear not only neutralized the flames but also split into shards, striking at Kendrick’s defenses.
Crash! Boom!
Kendrick staggered back, coughing as his protective spells shattered. He stared at Rodin, wide-eyed.
“You… You’re no fourth-circle mage…”
Rodin’s voice was like ice. “I surpassed that long ago.”
“Impossible…!” Kendrick’s face twisted with disbelief.
“Your arrogance ends here,” Rodin declared, his mana surging as he prepared another spell.
*
Francis, watching from a distance, could no longer contain his surprise.
“To maintain such precision and power… Is he truly a seventh-circle mage?”
The Landes Tower mages, who had finally caught up, froze in awe. They had never seen a spell duel of this caliber, especially not from someone who had just awakened to the seventh circle.
Francis muttered to himself, “This is no ordinary mage… This could change everything.”
*
Rodin raised his hand, gathering mana into a swirling vortex. Kendrick trembled as the oppressive force weighed down on him.
“Wait! I surrender! Let’s discuss this!” Kendrick stammered, panic overtaking him.
Rodin’s eyes burned with cold fury. “You should’ve thought of that before you touched my siblings.”
As he unleashed his next spell, the air crackled with power, signaling the end of the fight.
