Embracing Magic - E.M Chapter 13 (Part 2)
All members of the 3rd cohort passed the riding test. Naturally, no one got punished.
Another day passed.
The 4th retest of the continent’s common language test was conducted. There was only one applicant. The test was graded on the spot right after it ended, and fortunately, the applicant barely passed. Finally, all members of the 3rd cohort passed the continent’s common language test.
At the same time, elsewhere, an etiquette retest was held.
There were two applicants for the retest. This test was also passed by both applicants. One seemed to have been given a pass, but since the instructor declared them passed, that was the end of it.
Since everyone passed the riding test, there were no more dropouts in the 3rd cohort.
“Return to your dormitory.”
“3rd cohort! All members to the dormitory.”
As all tasks ended, the drill instructor herded the 3rd cohort members to the dormitory.
Rodin, who usually went to the library, was also prohibited from going today.
“What’s going on?”
“There must be something.”
The members of the 3rd cohort entered the dormitory en masse.
The four members of room 301 also sat on their beds, waiting for the next instructions.
Click!
The door opened, and the drill instructor came in.
“Read and memorize this.”
“What is it?”
“I’ll explain it tomorrow morning. Just read and memorize it.”
The drill instructor said what he had to say and disappeared. Left behind was a sheet of paper filled with text.
“Oh?”
The paper was divided into four sections.
From the top left clockwise, it was labeled ‘Aura Training,’ ‘Magic Training,’ ‘Spirit Summoning,’ and ‘Familiar Summoning.’
“What is this?”
“Is it a training method?”
“Oh! I know.”
Seeing the contents, Rodin realized what it was. He had seen similar books in the library.
“Rodin, do you know what this is?”
“As Cory said, it’s a training method. It’s literally a method for accumulating aura, magic, summoning spirits, and summoning Familiars.”
“Oh my gosh. Isn’t this incredibly valuable? Can they just give this out?”
Cory marveled, but Rodin shook his head. It wasn’t as significant as it seemed.
“I don’t think it’s that amazing. You could probably find something like this in a decent bookstore in the capital. It means it’s so low-level that it’s fine to be publicly known.”
“But it’s still a training method. If we diligently practice the magic training method, can’t we become wizards?”
“No, it’s tough. As I said, the level here is very low. If an ordinary person practices this training method for about a hundred years, they might be able to use 1-circle magic.”
Only then did the others grasp the level of the training methods. If they wanted to become knights or wizards, they would need better methods.
“Sigh, so we learn this because we’re slaves.”
“No, it’s not for learning.”
“Then why memorize it?”
“It’s usually used to identify talent. Even though the level is low, aura or magic still accumulates. They set a time limit for the training and measure how much aura or magic has gathered to identify talent.”
Rodin didn’t know the exact hours of practice or the measurement method. He only knew that talent was roughly estimated through long-term experience.
“What about spirit and Familiar summoning?”
“That’s simple too. If you follow the method, a passage opens to the spirit world or the Familiar world. They measure the talent by the size of the passage. Of course, if you have no talent, the passage doesn’t open at all, so you have to give up cleanly.”
Most likely, the passage wouldn’t open for most.
In the 1st and 2nd cohorts, there were likely no or very few spirit or Familiar summoners.
Spirit and Familiar summoners were extremely rare.
There were less than a hundred spirit summoners in the Riyaz Kingdom, and less than a hundred Familiar summoners across the entire continent.
“Did you see this in the library too?”
“The details weren’t written. Just that such things exist.”
“What happens after identifying talent? What’s next?”
“They’ll probably teach a proper training method. But how good that method is, I don’t know.”
The basic training methods were quite simple.
Spirit and Familiar summoning were also straightforward, making it easy to memorize.
“But what’s with these letters? What do they mean?”
“It looks like runes written in the pronunciation of the continental common language.”
“Runes? What’s that?”
“They’re called the language of the world or the language of truth. Some books say using runes allows you to control all things.”
Instead of writing runes directly, they were phonetically spelled out in the continental common language. So, just reading it didn’t reveal the meaning.
“How are we supposed to memorize this?”
“We just have to memorize it.”
Since it was a meaningless string of letters, it was quite challenging to memorize. Though there weren’t many lines, it required several hours of concentration to memorize it all.
‘There’s nothing else to do.’
He was barred from the library.
Having spent every day in the library, staying in the dormitory felt like he was missing something important.
“Ah, I don’t care.”
He grabbed the large dictionary still occupying one side of the desk.
Previously, he couldn’t lift it alone and needed help from Hedler or Lant, but now he could lift it by himself with the right posture. It was proof of his physical growth over the past six months.
“One.”
He sat down and stood up holding the dictionary. The dictionary was so heavy that his legs trembled when he stood up.
“Two.”
He sat down and stood up again.
Adjusting his posture slightly while moving made it a bit easier.
“Three.”
“What? Rodin, are you exercising again?”
“Yeah. There’s nothing else to do. Four.”
He sat down and stood up again. He could already feel a slight sweat forming on his back.
“Five.”
Rodin continued his exercise. At the same time, he didn’t miss the conversation among his peers.
“That’s intense.”
“Should I try it?”
“What? Exercise?”
“No, this. The training method. Should I try it?”
Cory stood up and sat on the floor. His posture was quite reverent.
“Have you memorized it all?”
“No, I can just read it.”
“Oh! Right.”
Cory placed the sheet with the training methods in front of him. He breathed as instructed and recited the runes.
“Alf rik naveli o… Ah!”
“What?”
“Concentrating with my eyes open isn’t working well. It feels like I’m just blank.”
Cory recalled the sensation he had just experienced.
There was definitely some change. It wasn’t a feeling of something entering his body, but rather a sensation of intense rejection.
“Do I have to memorize it all?”
“Wait. I’ll try the magic training method. Aura doesn’t seem to be my thing.”
Cory adjusted his posture again. This time, he breathed as instructed in the magic training method and recited the runes.
