In the afternoon, as the sun dipped low toward the horizon, Rodin dusted off his hands and stood up. Inside the carriage, ten liters of completed detoxification potion sat, still warm.

“Finally done.”

“Big Brother Rodin, so does that mean Her Majesty will be cured now?”

“Yeah. One vial per day. It should take about three days.”

Though he had finished making it, all ten liters were still in a large container. He still needed to portion it out into 25ml vials, but he found himself hesitating to start.

“Hehe. Big Brother Rodin, I can see exactly what you’re thinking. You don’t want to bother bottling it, huh.”

“Yeah, it’s a hassle.”

They had already purchased the empty vials in advance in the Duchy of Lientas. Taking the surplus into account, they’d bought 410 empty vials—but it looked like there wouldn’t be any left over.

“I’ll help.”

“Really?”

“Hehe. Big Brother Rodin, you’re way too happy about that.”

“I really hate repetitive tasks like this. Feels like a waste of time.”

He took out the 410 empty vials from his subspace bracelet. As they were laid out in rows, a sigh escaped him.

“Let’s fill them, Big Brother Rodin.”

“Yeah.”

“Should we call Brother Larry too?”

“He’s busy. If he volunteers, that’s one thing, but I don’t want to force anyone to work.”

Rodin and Bianca split the work, filling the detoxification potion into the vials. Using a ladle that held 25ml, they repeated the same action over and over.

“You’re used to this, right?”

“Yup. I’ve made disease-healing potions three times before.”

These days, Bianca didn’t make disease potions anymore. The profits weren’t worth the time investment.

Still, she had the experience of making them three times already. She’d also bottled potions before, so the task finished fairly quickly.

“Done.”

“Goes by fast when we split it up.”

“Can’t you use Magic Hand for this kind of work?”

“I can. But whether you do it by hand or use Magic Hand, it’s tiring all the same.”

In any case, the job was done. Rodin kept just three vials and stored the rest in his subspace.

“Are you going to take them to Her Majesty right away?”

“Yeah. No reason to delay.”

He stepped out of the carriage. Since the caravan was still on the move, Rodin used the Fly spell and soared ahead.

“Mage Rodin, what’s the matter?”

“Please tell Her Majesty that the antidote is ready.”

“Ah! Understood.”

The maid, Beca, who had been sitting in the driver’s seat outside the carriage, hurried inside. Even though the driver was gone, the horses kept moving by inertia.

“Come in.”

“You too, Beca.”

“Yes, Mage Sir.”

Rodin entered the carriage with the maid. Just as he reached into his robe to take out the detox potion—

“Damn! One moment.”

Rodin suddenly whipped his head forward, then quickly jumped out of the carriage. He lightly infused the brooch with magical energy and shouted loudly.

“Jena! Follow me! Fly!”

Using the Fly spell, Rodin rapidly increased his speed. Jena, following his command, flew at a frightening speed behind him.

The reason Rodin called Jena instead of Karis was due to their positions.

The carriage Jena was driving was ahead of Karis’s. Just a few steps ahead, but still enough to make it slightly more advantageous for Jena to respond first.

“What on earth is going on?”

“Seems something serious has happened.”

“Whew… What could possibly make a Grand Mage move in such a hurry?”

Queen Regina, left behind in the carriage, stared blankly in the direction Rodin had disappeared. It had happened so suddenly that she was left speechless.

The others outside were in the same state. Rodin had suddenly flown out of the carriage and shot ahead, and Jena from the rear carriage had followed him at astonishing speed.

Everyone could tell something was happening—but no one had any idea what.

“Could it be a magical beast attack?”

“Hard to say. Ah! Maybe something happened with the mercenaries who went ahead of us? Sir Rodin seemed to be close to them.”

“Ah, right. That makes sense.”

It was an accurate guess.

What Rodin sensed was the turbulent flow of air generated by combat—and a magical beast with a substantial presence.

Having broken off from the group, Rodin quickly arrived near his destination. In the distance, he could see people struggling against two ogres.

“Thunder Blast!”

He cast the spell he had prepared mid-flight. A mass of lightning shot forward and struck a massive ogre square in the face.

Kuaaaang!

The ogre, hit directly by the lightning explosion, collapsed on the spot. Though its body trembled as it tried to endure, that was its limit. It was no longer in any condition to continue fighting.

“Lockdown!”

Rodin cast a spell to firmly restrain the ogre, who didn’t even have the strength to rise. Leaving the immobilized ogre behind, he quickly scanned the surroundings.

“Haa… It’s a mess.”

Just as Rodin fired his spell, Jena charged at the other ogre.

The ogre spotted Jena and swung its arms.

Vwoooong!

A terrifying tearing sound rang out—but if it didn’t hit, it meant nothing. Jena naturally tilted her head to avoid the attack and swung her sword.

Her blade rose diagonally and cleaved through the ogre.

Slash! Thud!

It ended with a single strike. The ogre’s head, cut at an angle, fell to the ground. The body collapsed much later.

Thoom!

“Phew, that was rough.”

“Yes. Are you unharmed, young master?”

“Yeah. Just that one left.”

Rodin stared at the ogre squirming on the ground. The thing was so enormous that even while lying down, its head came up to his knees.

“I’ll take care of it.”

“Alright. Finish it and move it aside.”

“Yes, young master.”

Leaving the ogre to Jena, Rodin turned his attention to the wounded.

More than ten people were already no longer among the living. The ones still breathing weren’t in good shape either.

“Bron! Marlon.”

“Be… Start with Baker.”

“Got it.”
