The Sectumsempra Curse was a very special kind of Dark Magic. Normally, a special counter-curse was required to heal the wounds it caused.

In other words, if Snape hadn’t been there that day, Malfoy might have actually died.

At least Harry was unable to perform a powerful counter-curse at the time. By the time he went to call for help, Malfoy might already have been dead.

Snape saved Malfoy, and he also saved Harry. That was the real Snape.

But saying this to Harry right now would be useless; he was currently filled with hatred toward Snape, just like he hated those detentions. Every Saturday’s detention cut into the already limited time he could have been spending with Ginny, which made him incredibly resentful, even more than ever before.

In fact, Harry had frequently wondered lately whether Snape did not know this, for he was keeping Harry later and later every time, while making pointed asides about Harry having to miss the good weather and the varied opportunities it offered.

It was entirely possible that Snape knew and was using detention on purpose to keep him away from Ginny.

At that moment, Jimmy Peakes appeared beside the three of them, holding out a scroll of parchment.

“The headmaster asked me to bring this to you two. I just met him downstairs,” Jimmy handed the parchment to Evan.

“Thanks, Jimmy!” said Evan, unrolling the parchment. Harry was shaken from his bitter reflections and leaned in curiously. “Hmm, Dumbledore wants us to go to his office as quick as we can!”

“Oh no, could he have made progress… on that magic?” said Harry cautiously, glancing in the direction Jimmy had left.

“Very likely,” Evan replied. This meant they were heading to Azkaban tonight.

That was good news. If things stayed idle for much longer, he might not be able to resist doing something himself.

“Let’s go, Harry, go see the headmaster!” said Evan, turning his head to look at Ron, “If Hermione and Elaine come back later, remember to tell them so that they don’t have to wait for me to go to bed.”

Ron nodded, looking at Evan and Harry who got up and left. He seemed like he wanted to say something, but in the end, he said nothing.

He stood alone in front of the fireplace, the flickering flames stretching his shadow longer and longer until it twisted out of shape.

Evan and Harry hurried out of the common room and along the seventh floor, talking about this matter in a low voice as they walked.

Harry seemed very excited because of the upcoming adventure, and his body couldn’t help shaking.

Evan was fine, but he was a little curious about what he would encounter in Azkaban. What power did the evil god’s brain have?

If the brain had thoughts, then he might meet Herpo the Foul himself in a while!

A famous Dark wizard thousands of years ago, who only existed in legends.

They didn’t meet anyone on the way, but halfway down the corridor, they passed Peeves the Poltergeist, who swooped past in the opposite direction, throwing bits of chalk at them in a routine sort of way and cackling loudly, before Evan and Harry could retaliate.

No one knew what had gotten into Peeves that evening; he usually didn’t dare mess with Evan.

Perhaps something unfortunate had happened again, which made him so happy that he got a little carried away.

Once Peeves had vanished, there was silence in the corridors.

With only fifteen minutes left until curfew, most people had already returned to their common rooms.

And then Evan and Harry heard a scream and a crash from a corridor nearby

“What was that?”

“Sounds like someone fell!”

They stopped in their tracks. Harry, a bit confused, peered into the corridor, but the deep darkness obscured his view.

A ball of light flew from the tip of Evan’s wand, and they saw Professor Trelawney sprawled upon the floor, her head covered in one of her many shawls, several sherry bottles lying beside her, one broken.

“Professor…”

“She looks like she has drunk a lot. Are you okay?” Evan and Harry hurried forward and helped Professor Trelawney to her feet. Although they didn’t particularly like her and thought she was a fraud, they couldn’t just leave her lying there on the floor.

“What happened, Professor? Why are you …”

“You may well ask!” said Professor Trelawney immediately, her voice shrill. She didn’t seem to notice who had helped her up. “I was strolling along, brooding upon certain dark portents I happen to have glimpsed …”

Evan and Harry looked at each other and sighed helplessly.

Sure enough, it was the same old thing again. Couldn’t she ever come up with some new phrases?

Harry winked at Evan, signaling that they should leave quickly. Evan hesitated for a moment, eyeing the still-indignant Professor Trelawney, unsure whether she might suddenly deliver some startling prophecy; but given her current state, it didn’t seem likely.

If it was just an ominous sign, he was not interested in listening.

Harry also lit his wand, and he noticed where they were standing: There on the right was the tapestry of dancing trolls, and on the left, that smoothly impenetrable stretch of stone wall that concealed —

“Professor, were you trying to get into the Room of Requirement?”

“… omens I have been vouchsafed. Something ominous is drawing near, we — what did you say?” Professor Trelawney was stunned for a moment, her gaze suddenly turning a bit evasive, as if only just now realizing it was Evan and Harry beside her. “Oh, it’s you two!”

“The Room of Requirement,” repeated Harry. “Were you trying to get in there?”

“I — well — I didn’t know students knew about —”

“Not all of them do, but we two happen to know about it.”

“What happened? You screamed. … It sounded as though you were hurt. …”

“I — well,” said Professor Trelawney, drawing her shawls around her defensively and staring down at him with her vastly magnified eyes. “I wished to — ah — deposit certain — um — personal items in the room. …” And she muttered something about “nasty accusations.”

“But you couldn’t get in, there was someone in there!” said Evan. What was Malfoy doing in there at this hour?!

Evan had checked before: Malfoy wasn’t progressing very quickly with repairing the Vanishing Cabinet. There were a few key issues he hadn’t figured out. But if he’d gotten answers from Voldemort or another Death Eater, the rest would be easy.

“Oh, I got in all right,” said Professor Trelawney. “But yes there was somebody already in there.”

“Somebody in — ? Who?” Harry suddenly grew excited. “Who was in there?!”

“I have no idea,” said Professor Trelawney, looking slightly taken aback at the urgency in Harry’s voice. “I walked into the room and I heard a voice, which has never happened before in all my years of hiding — of using the room, I mean.”
