- H.P.S.T Chapter 1503: The Mark of the Twin Serpent Staff
Vibration, collapse … this place was over.
The cracks on the sea worm’s body were growing bigger and bigger, and the cold and ruthless seawater was rushing in frantically.
It didn’t take long for the seawater to fill the deep pit in front of them!
In the blink of an eye, the water rose to Evan and Harry’s waists, and it was still rising, faster and faster.
Dumbledore, who had entered the deep pit, was now completely submerged below the surface, engulfed by the freezing seawater. Through the refraction of the seawater, Dumbledore and the Kraken’s blood-red eyes were blurred, and only the faint green and the palpitating red could be seen, intertwined together.
It was the only source of light in the entire space, a maddening, chaotic glow.
On one side was the ultimate magical power; on the other, the overwhelming terror of a being at the very top of the food chain.
“Evan, hurry up!” Harry urged, with horror in his voice.
He had tried several times to cast Lumos or other spells, but the chaotic magic flooding the space made it impossible for him to use any magic.
Seeing Dumbledore sink into the sea with the Twin Serpent Staff only made him more distraught. Even though Harry could not fully understand the reason and the meaning of it, he still clearly felt that the current situation was very bad.
“Evan…”
“I know, I know, I’m almost there!” said Evan, turning the pages.
At this moment, the pages of the book that were usually easy to turn had become extremely heavy.
Each page felt as heavy as a thousand pounds. Even though they were still blank with no visible content, turning each one drained Evan of a great deal of magic and stamina.
He had just finished flipping through the first part, the Philosopher’s Stone section, and during a brief pause, glanced down. Dumbledore seemed to be about to run into the Kraken.
At this rate… he might not make it in time…
“Evan, look!” Harry shouted.
“What?!” Evan’s eyes moved back to The Book of Abraham.
The previously plain and unremarkable pages were now glowing with a dark green light, eye-catching and intense.
The first page of the second part showed a drawing of the Twin Serpent Staff!
Originally, the pattern on the page was blurry, but now, the ink seemed to melt, revealing the full view of the caduceus. The scepter on it flashed a dark green glow, something that had never happened before. It seemed to be resonating with the power of the actual Staff.
Evan felt the same power on The Book of Abraham as the magic power raging in the space. His right hand slid down the page over the image of the Staff, as if guided by some unseen force telling him what to do, and he turned to a specific page in the second part.
He knew that this page contained what he needed, a solution to the current crisis.
Unlike before, the pages now felt featherlight, almost weightless.
Evan flipped through the page, and there was a spell on it.
It was an ancient magic script, no, it was some kind of text that he couldn’t understand, and the curved text looked like twisting snakes. Evan couldn’t understand these words, but he had seen them before, on the Slytherin stone tablet he had found. These were spell runes that could only be read through Parseltongue.
“Harry, look here!” he shouted. “Quick, come! What does this say?”
“I can’t read it. This is…”
“It’s Parseltongue!” said Evan, “Parseltongue, Harry, this is the language of snakes. Red it out in Parseltongue. Hurry up!”
Hearing Evan’s reminder, Harry seemed to have just remembered this, he concentrated, staring at the page intently, trying to identify the content on it.
In those difficult and long seconds, Harry seemed to be a little hesitant, with some doubts.
Then, he shook his head slightly, and a strange tone came out of his mouth.
Every time he read a sentence, Evan followed.
Not surprisingly, this was the magic of the Twin Serpent Staff, the very spell Dumbledore had used to control it.
Yes, that was it!
Evan could feel that his magic power was no longer in conflict with the powerful energy that filled the space, he was merging into it, and the vast sky of energy was opening itself to him. As the incantation progressed, the dark green runes floating in midair began to gather.
They spun around Evan, Harry, and The Book of Abraham, and then quickly merged into the bodies of the two. More runes continued to gather and enter the book. The image of the Twin Serpent Staff on the page grew clearer, accurate to every fine line on the caduceus, and the two giant serpents were also lifelike.
Evan had a strange feeling. His right hand, resting on The Book of Abraham, grew icy cold, and the dark green runes were entering it, just like what had happened to Dumbledore’s right hand, but the invading runes were not chaotic. They were forming a pattern, a pattern of a coiling serpent!
He did not feel pain, but he had an extra power that he could control at will, an extremely vast power!
The snake on his right hand coiled counterclockwise; it was the left-hand serpent of the Twin Serpent Staff!
The left-hand serpent?!
What about the right one?!
While chanting the spell, Evan looked up and noticed that Harry’s right hand was also glowing green, with runes flowing into his body too.
The serpent on Harry’s hand coiled clockwise; it matched the right-hand serpent on the Staff, the counterpart to Evan’s.
One on the left and one on the right, the two serpents of the Twin Serpent Staff were being marked onto Evan and Harry’s bodies, through the ceaseless influx of magic and runes.
This was the unique mark of the Twin Serpent Staff!
Evan didn’t know exactly what it meant, but he could now feel the giant serpent on his own arm… the one on Harry… and a more powerful force deep within the seawater ahead, where Dumbledore and the Twin Serpent Staff were located.
Through the incantation in The Book of Abraham, Evan had become attuned to the Staff’s power. This magic scepter had left its mark on him, on Harry, and on Dumbledore. There was a strange connection between the three of them. And Evan could sense it clearly now: Dumbledore was still alive!
And, that huge magical power!
It was the power of the Twin Serpent Staff, as well as the magic of the North Sea Kraken that opposed it.
But that was not the end of the changes.
As Evan and Harry chanted the incantation from The Book of Abraham, the dark green energy gate in midair that had stopped expanding began to grow again. The huge and dark sky became deeper and deeper, swallowing up the surrounding real-world space.
The huge sea worm, the rushing seawater, and everything were all swallowed up.
Soon, Evan, Harry, and The Book of Abraham were pulled into a strange space.
To put it metaphorically, it felt like floating in the cosmos, suspended in the void!
The seawater that had once reached their waists disappeared in an instant. The serpent-shaped markings and the misty green aura shielded Evan, Harry, and the book, allowing them to float in place, watching as the massive energy gate slowly swallowed up reality bit by bit, expanding toward where Dumbledore was.
