- H.P.S.T Chapter 1536: Evan’s Summer Vacation
Evan was carefully combing through the information he could find about Gringotts. He was going to go there to retrieve the golden cup after Bill and Fleur’s wedding.
Hermione was sitting not far from him on the bed, flipping through the latest newspaper.
This summer, their two families were spending the holidays together.
They were currently in an old English manor in Derbyshire. Evan, Hermione, and their parents had been here for almost the entire vacation.
It was Evan’s family estate, situated inside the famous Peak District National Park.
It was said that the manor had once belonged to a Muggle duke in history. The decoration was very grand and imposing, still preserving the architectural style of the sixteenth century, with many relics from that era. Evan had checked — there were no traces of magic.
Just like the other uniquely styled Muggle manors scattered across the Peak District National Park , it was discreetly luxurious and far removed from the magical world. Aside from the occasional curious Muggle tourists wandering in for a visit, no wizard would have any interest in coming here.
As a temporary hiding place and vacation spot, it was absolutely perfect.
With the help of the Order of the Phoenix, Evan and Hermione had brought their respective parents to safety almost as soon as they returned home.
Evan knew he was a major target, especially after displaying the Twin Serpent Staff in front of so many people. Voldemort had surely heard about it by now.
He wasn’t foolish enough to stay at home and wait for a pack of Death Eaters to show up on his doorstep.
The Masons had long wanted to take Evan on vacation. This time, he agreed to their request and also invited Hermione and the Grangers.
Evan had rarely spent his holidays at home in recent years. To avoid regret, he wanted to spend time with his parents.
Perhaps… this might be the last summer vacation.
Overall, this vacation had still been pleasant.
At the beginning of the vacation, Evan had invited Elaine, Ron, Ginny and Gabrielle to come together. The six of them had explored almost every corner of the Peak District National Park.
Then, just a few days ago, except for Evan and Hermione, everyone else returned to the Burrow to prepare for escorting Harry and Bill and Fleur’s wedding, and also to give Evan and Hermione time to say goodbye to their families.
In a few days, Evan was going to cast enchantments on them as originally planned.
His parents would go to China, where they had investments, while Hermione’s parents would head to Australia. …
This was for their protection. Under the influence of magic, they would forget Evan and Hermione entirely. If anything were to happen to the two of them, their parents wouldn’t suffer as much.
This arrangement sounded quietly heartbreaking, but there was no other way. Muggles couldn’t integrate into the magical world like wizards. Evan’s and Hermione’s parents couldn’t join the Order of the Phoenix and fight like Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. The only option was to leave the country for now.
Under the shadow of the impending war, many people were fleeing Britain.
Evan hoped he could stop the mad Voldemort from summoning the evil god. Otherwise, people wouldn’t be able to escape this world the way ancient sorcerers had done thousands of years ago. …
“When are we going to pick up Harry?” Hermione asked suddenly.
“Next week, on the day Harry comes of age. That’s when the magic his mother left in his blood will lose its effect,” said Evan, looking up at her.
Adulthood opened the door to many, many things. Hermione had already come of age, but Evan still had more than half a year to wait.
According to the plan made by Sirius and Moody, they would all go to pick Harry up on his birthday and escort him to the Burrow. A fierce battle was expected.
Shortly after the holiday began — more precisely, after the Ministry sentenced all the Death Eaters who had broken into Hogwarts that night — Azkaban fell once again, just as expected. All the imprisoned Death Eaters were broken out.
For criminals as dangerous and vicious as Death Eaters, the Ministry’s laws were far too lenient.
Rufus Scrimgeour was powerless. He wanted to authorize the Aurors to use extreme measures against Death Eaters, but up until now, that decree had still not passed.
In a sense, the Ministry of Magic had already fallen.
No one knew how many Death Eaters had infiltrated it, how many officials were under the Imperius Curse, or how many wizards secretly supported Voldemort. It was simply no longer trustworthy.
The Order of the Phoenix could only rely on themselves. Sirius had repeatedly told them that the premise of everything was to protect themselves, and if necessary, use unconventional magic. …
The best-case scenario was that Voldemort and the Death Eaters didn’t know the exact time of Harry’s transfer. The Order had even spread false information to mislead them, hoping to buy time — but Evan doubted that would work. With Snape involved, and since Harry’s transfer plan was originally left by Dumbledore, it was unlikely to remain secret.
What needed to be done now was to prepare for the battle.
However, Evan didn’t want Hermione to get too anxious. She had been emotionally low these past few days, knowing she would soon be separated from her parents. So he didn’t continue the topic. Instead, he asked, “Any news in the paper?”
“Well, Professor Charity Burbage, the Muggle Studies teacher at Hogwarts, has resigned. Strange, isn’t it?” said Hermione, turning the thick newspaper to one of the pages. “I remember she wrote an article a few days ago, denouncing Vo— the Dark Lord’s pure-blood theory, saying that she would stick to staying in Hogwarts. Now she suddenly resigned!”
She didn’t dare say Voldemort’s name — Evan was sure Voldemort had enchanted it again, so that mentioning it would alert him.
He had used this magic before, and now it was active again.
Disappearing suddenly, this was not good news.
Evan didn’t want to continue discussing this matter. Disappearances were far too sensitive a topic, especially when they involved people they had once known. Evan had never taken Professor Burbage’s class, but no matter how he looked at it, her fate likely wouldn’t be a good one. The poor professor hadn’t realized the true nature of the situation.
This wasn’t just a matter of theoretical debate anymore. It was not wise to openly express affection for Muggles and oppose Voldemort without taking any protective measures…
“Any other news?” Evan asked vaguely, trying to steer the conversation away from death.
“No, the Ministry is still saying the same things — that everything is safe and under control — but they can’t even find a trace of the Death Eaters,” said Hermione. “The rest of the articles are about Dumbledore. People are remembering him. Here’s an obituary written by his friend, Elphias Doge. I think it’s very well written. Do you want me to read it to you?”
Evan nodded. Although reminiscing about Dumbledore wasn’t exactly a cheerful subject, at least it could help distract Hermione. Besides, they both knew that Dumbledore wasn’t truly dead, so they weren’t as heartbroken as others. …
