- H.P.S.T Chapter 1559: Return to the Burrow
Mrs. Tonks was born into the ancient and noble Black family, but she eventually married the Muggle-born Ted Tonks.
This action resulted in her, like Sirius, being disowned by the family. Her sisters, Bellatrix and Narcissa, never acknowledged having such a younger sister.
However, it was undeniable that both she and her daughter bore Black blood.
Now, Tonks’s marriage to Lupin had linked the Blacks, Malfoys, Lestranges, and a werewolf.
Bellatrix and Narcissa must have considered the Tonks family a disgrace within their family, and would have wanted to kill them all.
Mrs. Tonks ignored Harry’s rudeness and asked, “What happened to our daughter? Hagrid said you were ambushed; where is Nymphadora?”
“I don’t know,” said Harry. “She was paired with Hermione. We split up to retreat. We don’t know what happened to anyone else.”
She and Ted exchanged looks. A mixture of fear and guilt gripped Harry at the sight of their expressions; if any of the others had died, it was his fault, all his fault. He had consented to the plan, given them his hair. …
“The Portkey,” he said, remembering all of a sudden the plan Sirius had shared with him before they left. “We’ve got to get back to the Burrow and find out — then we’ll be able to send you word, or — or Tonks will, once she’s —”
“Dora’ll be okay, ’Dromeda,” Ted comforted her. “Don’t worry. She knows her stuff, she’s been in plenty of tight spots with the Aurors. The Portkey’s through here,” he added to Harry. “It’s supposed to leave in three minutes. Moody said before that if you want to take it, you’d better do it right away.”
“Yeah, we do,” said Harry. He seized his rucksack, swung it onto his shoulders. “I —”
He looked at Mrs. Tonks, wanting to apologize for the state of fear in which he left her and for which he felt so terribly responsible, but no words occurred to him that did not seem hollow and insincere.
“I’ll tell Tonks — Dora — to send word, when she … Thanks for patching us up, thanks for everything. I —”
He was glad to leave the room and follow Ted Tonks along a short hallway and into a bedroom.
Hagrid came after them, bending low to avoid hitting his head on the door lintel.
“There you go, son. That’s the Portkey.”
Mr. Tonks was pointing to a small, silver-backed hairbrush lying on the dressing table.
“Thanks,” said Harry, reaching out to place a finger on it, ready to leave.
Then, the hairbrush glowed bright blue.
With a jerk behind the navels as though an invisible hook and line had dragged them forward, Harry and Hagrid were pulled into nothingness, spinning uncontrollably.
When Evan and Sirius arrived at the Burrow with the unconscious Moody and Ron, they found their group was the first to arrive.
As Evan stepped out of nothingness and steadied himself, he saw Mrs. Weasley, Ginny, Elaine, and Gabrielle running down the steps by the back door.
“Sirius, what happened? Where are the others?” cried Mrs. Weasley. “Oh, Alastor, what happened to him? This is the real Harry —”
“No, it’s Ron,” said Sirius, “and this is Evan.”
At Sirius’s words, Mrs. Weasley threw her arms around the fainted Ron, weeping as she asked if he was all right
“Don’t worry, Molly, Ron just fainted. I checked and there are no other injuries. Moody’s injuries are a bit serious, but they’ll all be fine,” said Sirius. “Tonight’s operation went very badly. We were ambushed.”
“Ambushed?”
“Yeah, we were ambushed as soon as we set out tonight. The Death Eaters were waiting for us. They knew the time of our departure, and they knew our plan. Damn it, someone in the Order must have leaked the information. Don’t let me know who it was…”
This plan had been devised by Dumbledore earlier, and he had told Snape the exact time, instructing him to leak it to Voldemort in order to gain his trust.
Still, Sirius’s fears weren’t entirely unfounded — not all members of the Order were completely trustworthy.
As for the rest of the operation, Evan felt it would be better if only a few of them carried it out from here on.
“After being surrounded by Death Eaters again, we split up as planned. Sirius and I had intended to draw Voldemort after us, buying time for the others. But the noise we made might have aroused Voldemort’s suspicion, so he didn’t pursue us, but went straight for Ron and Moody’s group,” Evan explained. “He probably thought the real Harry was with Moody, after all, Moody is the best Auror. By the time we realized something was wrong and got there, the two of them had already been knocked out.”
He quickly recounted what he knew, all the while exchanging hugs with the worried Elaine, Gabrielle, and the others.
“Thank God, Evan, you saved Ron. I’ve been praying only for your safety,” said Mrs. Weasley, throwing her arms around Evan as well.
She thanked Evan and Sirius profusely for their help, and then, together with Sirius, carried the unconscious Moody and Ron into the Burrow. Evan, Ginny, Elaine, and Gabrielle remained in the backyard, waiting for the other groups to return.
“What’s the situation now?” Evan asked, opening Hedwig’s cage.
Hedwig flew out, pecked at him gently, and then flew off to the side to wait.
Hedwig was waiting for Harry, as if she had sensed his imminent return.
By then, the Polyjuice Potion had begun to wear off, and Evan reverted to his own appearance.
“Not so good. We’re worried sick. Hermione and Tonks should have been back first, but they missed their Portkey, it came back without them,” said Ginny, pointing at an ancient sneaker. She began to explain the situation to Evan. “You’re the second, Dad and Fred are the third, and then Harry and Hagrid. Their Portkey times are about the same. If all goes well, they should be here in a minute.”
As she finished her words, a blue light appeared in the darkness, growing larger and brighter.
Ginny started to call for Mrs. Weasley to come down. As Sirius and Mrs. Weasley emerged, Harry and Hagrid appeared, spinning and then falling.
Both of them were covered in wounds, and Harry’s clothes were torn and stained with blood, clearly having been through a fierce battle.
Ginny screamed and lunged forward, accompanied by Hedwig, who was hovering in mid-air.
“Harry? Are you the real Harry?”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, we met Voldemort!” Harry said immediately after hugging Ginny, eagerly recounting everything he and Hagrid had just been through.
“You mean Voldemort found you right when you were about to reach Tonks’s parents’ house?”
“How is that possible? He was clearly chasing Ron and Moody!”
