Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures - H.P.S.T Chapter 1560: Check
Evan recounted their group’s story and the battle he and Sirius had fought against Voldemort. He then inquired about many details of Harry’s encounter, particularly the details of when Voldemort had found him, and how they had managed to escape afterward. Those were the parts that interested him most.
From Harry’s account, it seemed that after letting Evan and the others get away, the enraged Voldemort had used the soul connection between himself and Harry to locate him directly.
That meant Voldemort must have realized that the abducted Ron was a fake Harry.
After their departure, he was so enraged that he, despite the damage to his own soul, was determined to locate the real Harry.
Fortunately, Evan and Sirius arrived just in time, otherwise Voldemort might have killed Ron.
By using the black smoke to control Ron, he must have become suspicious and was trying to determine if he was the real Harry. That was probably how it happened. Otherwise, Voldemort wouldn’t have had any interest in Ron. He would have just cast a Killing Curse upon discovering he was a fake, and that was it. There was no need for close observation.
What especially intrigued Evan was that during Harry’s fight with Voldemort, his wand had retaliated on its own. There seemed to be some strange and remarkable magic at work.
The secrets of the wand — perhaps this was part of Dumbledore’s plan, harnessing the magic between wands to allow Harry to defeat Voldemort.
Evan wasn’t sure. Even though he’d read numerous books on Wandlore, he’d only grasped the basics.
As a Wizarding weapon, Wandlore was far more complex and mystical than most wizards understood.
Evan still wanted to uncover the secrets related to his own wand, but so far he’d made no progress
Similarly, he was certain Voldemort didn’t know much about it either. If, after this failure, Voldemort turned his attention to the Elder Wand’s power, there was a good chance he would be deceived by it.
Evan suddenly felt a bit tempted to study Harry’s wand. He was sure its counterattack had not come from the protective magic in Harry’s bloodline, but from the wand itself. However, now was not the time for such research — he was worried about the others, especially Hermione.
She and Tonks had missed the Portkey, and he had no idea how they were now.
In the backyard, Sirius began to examine Harry’s injuries. Hagrid asked Mrs. Weasley if she had any brandy, saying it was for medicinal purposes.
But when Mrs. Weasley handed Hagrid a bottle, he uncorked it and drank it straight down in one.
Just then, another flash of blue light suddenly appeared in the darkness. Lupin and George appeared, spinning and then falling. Their situation was grim.
Lupin was supporting George, who was unconscious and whose face was covered in blood.
“Oh my!” Mrs. Weasley gasped, nearly fainting.
George’s injuries looked far more severe than anyone else’s. Several people hurriedly helped Lupin carry him into the house and through the kitchen to the sitting room, where they laid him on the sofa. As the lamplight fell across George’s head, everyone gasped: One of George’s ears was missing. The side of his head and neck were drenched in wet, shockingly scarlet blood.
The bad news kept coming: Ron and Moody were still unconscious upstairs, Harry and Hagrid were covered in wounds, and now George had lost his ear.
Evan examined the wound. The cut was clean — the result of the Sectumsempra Curse, Snape’s magic.
Before anyone could ask, Lupin grabbed Harry by the upper arm and dragged him, none too gently, back into the kitchen.
Evan and the others hurried after him, while Hagrid was still attempting to ease his bulk through the back door.
In the kitchen, Lupin raised his wand at Harry.
“Put your wand down, Remus. I just checked, he really is Harry,” said Sirius.
“Really?” said Lupin doubtfully, looking at Sirius in disbelief. “What was my nickname at school? Answer me.”
“We all called you Moony!” said Sirius. “What were Dumbledore’s last words to us?”
“Help Evan and Harry, they are the most precious.” Lupin lowered his wand.
“Wha’ was tha’ about?” roared Hagrid.
“I’m sorry, Hagrid, but I had to check. We’ve been betrayed. Voldemort knew about our move tonight and the only people who could have told him were directly involved in the plan. You might have been an impostor,” said Lupin tersely.
“Check?! “So why aren’ you checkin’ me?” panted Hagrid, still struggling to fit through the door.
“You’re half-giant. The Polyjuice Potion is designed for human use only,” said Lupin, looking up at Hagrid. Then he glanced at Harry once more before turning to Evan. “In fact, just to be on the safe side, I think everyone who returns from outside tonight needs to be checked. Evan, what were you looking for in the Forbidden Forest on Halloween four years ago when I met you?”
“I had just seen Sirius sneaking into the school, but I told you I was looking for Hermione’s cat,” said Evan.
“Good. Now, what’s the situation? Is it just you few who made it back?” Lupin asked.
“Moody and Ron are upstairs — both unconscious,” Sirius briefly explained what had happened. “You can go up and check on them later. Honestly, what worries me most isn’t that someone might have leaked the plan, but that Voldemort can actually sense Harry’s location.”
With that, whatever plan they had made would be ineffective.
“Don’t worry too much about that. I’ve discussed this with Dumbledore before. With his damaged soul, it’s very difficult for Voldemort to sense Harry, and doing so causes him great harm. That’s why he rarely connects with Harry actively. It’s usually Harry who enters his mind,” said Evan. “And when his soul connects with Harry’s, there are signs. For example, Harry’s scar will hurt. That way, we can leave early and Voldemort won’t find us.”
At this moment, finally succeeding in squeezing through the door, Hagrid staggered to a chair and sat down; it collapsed beneath him.
“Well, Dumbledore said something similar,” said Harry. “Don’t worry about me. Will George be okay?”
Lupin was silent for a moment, then said, “I think so, although there’s no chance of replacing his ear, not when it’s been cursed off —”
There was a scuffling from outside. Everyone dived for the back door; Hagrid cursed under his breath as he tried to squeeze his way out again.
Tonks and Hermione returned. Hermione had resumed her normal appearance.
Tonks, still on her broom, landed in a long skid that sent earth and pebbles everywhere.
“Remus!” she cried as she staggered off the broom into Lupin’s arms. His face was set and white: He seemed unable to speak.
Hermione also threw herself into Evan’s arms, her face filled with joy.
Seeing her, Evan felt the heavy weight pressing on his heart finally lift.
