Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures - H.P.S.T Chapter 1646: Friends
Harry quickly turned to look at Dobby, the house-elf carrying a tray. Dobby was smiling back at him.
“Harry Potter, your breakfast. Master Evan instructed Dobby…”
Harry didn’t hear the rest; he wasn’t concerned about breakfast at this moment.
Looking at Dobby, Harry suddenly thought of a possibility — a plan to rescue Ron.
He looked at Dobby, overjoyed.
Harry should have thought of this sooner. Dobby had been a house-elf of the Malfoy family; he had worked for the Malfoys and knew where Malfoy Manor was. In other words, with Dobby leading the way, he could easily get to Malfoy Manor, to the dungeons, and rescue Ron, without having to lie here worrying.
“Dobby, do you know where Malfoy Manor is?” Harry asked urgently.
Hearing his former master’s name, the smile on Dobby’s face gradually froze.
His huge, tennis ball-shaped eyes widened, and his body began to tremble uncontrollably from head to toe with fear, terror, and other emotions.
“Dobby knows, why is Harry Potter asking this?” Dobby forced a smile.
“Take me to Malfoy Manor, Dobby, let’s go save Ron.” Harry jumped out of bed.
“Harry Potter is going to Malfoy Manor, but… but Master Evan said you can’t leave…”
“Ron is my friend, Dobby, he’s been captured by the Dark Lord and the Death Eaters, I can’t do nothing,” said Harry in a low voice. “Can you understand this feeling? Can you understand what a friend is? When a friend is in danger, it’s worth doing anything for him, no matter how dangerous it is, even if it threatens my life. Ron is my best friend, so I have to go to Malfoy Manor to save him.”
“Dobby doesn’t understand, Dobby has never had any wizard friends, house-elves can’t be friends with wizards.”
“No, you have friends, Dobby, I am your friend,” said Harry almost without hesitation.
“Oh!” Dobby’s expression changed, and he said in disbelief, “Harry Potter actually said Dobby is his friend?”
He seemed a little too excited, and soon his big eyes, which were looking at Harry, became teary, and tears streamed down his face.
“Yes, you are my friend, Dobby, always have been,” Harry said quickly. “Do you consider me a friend too?”
Dobby looked at Harry, a little hesitant to answer, and then he seemed to have made a major decision.
“Harry Potter is Dobby’s friend, Dobby’s first wizard friend, waah!” He burst into tears.
Harry comforted Dobby for a moment, and then he quickly steered the conversation back on track. If Dobby continued to cry like this, he would definitely cry all day.
“Dobby, if I were captured and taken to Malfoy Manor, would you come to rescue me?” he asked.
“Dobby will save Harry Potter! Harry Potter is so great, even if he weren’t Dobby’s friend, Dobby would still save him!” Dobby cried, clutching the bedsheet and blowing his nose noisily. “What a great man Harry Potter is! He actually considers Dobby his friend! Even Master Evan didn’t say that to Dobby. Of course, Master Evan is a great wizard too, but Dobby has always known that Harry Potter is the greatest, the wizard who can treat house-elves as equals, the only wizard who can consider house-elves as friends…”
“Alright, Dobby, keep your voice down!” Afraid of disturbing Evan and Hermione below, Harry had to stop Dobby from crying further. “Now you understand, right? If I were captured, as a friend, you would definitely save me, even if it meant facing Malfoy, even if it meant facing the Dark Lord, even if it meant losing your life.”
“Even if it meant facing Ma — my former master, even if it meant facing He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, even if it meant losing Dobby’s life, Dobby would definitely go.”
“So, now that Ron has been captured, as a friend I have to go to his rescue,” said Harry. “Of course, Dobby, if you were captured, I would definitely save you too. Now you understand, right? A friend is the only person you can rely on when you’re in danger. We must act immediately; they could kill Ron at any moment.”
“Harry Potter is going to save his friend, and Dobby wants to go with him, even if it means going back to his old master’s house,” said Dobby, trembling, wiping his great tear-filled eyes. “But should we tell Master Evan about this…?”
“No, don’t tell them. Just the two of us. This is a solo operation. Harry and Hermione are too busy right now; let’s not bother them,” said Harry, not giving Dobby a chance to say anything more. “Hmm, let me think… Dobby, can you Apparate to Malfoy Manor?”
Dobby nodded, his long ears flapping.
“And can you take a human with you?”
Dobby nodded again. The light in Harry’s eyes grew brighter, and his plan became clearer. Perhaps things weren’t as complicated as he had imagined. He could have Dobby quietly Apparate him to the dungeons of Malfoy Manor, find Ron, and bring him back.
The whole process wouldn’t alert anyone, and no one would notice.
The Death Eaters wouldn’t think of it, and neither would Voldemort.
Harry remembered that in that dark cave by the sea, Dumbledore had said that Voldemort looked down on house-elves’ magic and didn’t bother to understand it, so his magical defenses were completely ineffective against them.
That arrogance had cost him dearly once — over Slytherin’s locket — and it would cost him again.
In a few hours, Voldemort and the Death Eaters would only be able to stare helplessly at the empty dungeon.
And when Harry returned with Ron safe and sound, Evan and Sirius would be stunned.
Not only would he have rescued Ron, but he could also prove that he was no longer a child!
“Listen, Dobby!” Harry suppressed his excitement. “Do you know where the dungeons of Malfoy Manor are?”
“Dobby knows!” Dobby nodded again. “But there are many dungeons.”
“It’s the one that’s very dark — no windows — and I remember there was a pillar inside…” Harry tried to recall the scene he had glimpsed through Voldemort’s mind. But as he spoke, Dobby’s expression remained blank with confusion, so Harry changed tack. “All right, that’s fine. We can check them one by one, as long as we can get there. There’s no time to waste, Dobby — we should leave right now. If everything goes well, we’ll be back before noon.”
The house-elf hesitated for a moment, seemingly still afraid, then he reached out and grasped Harry’s right hand.
The next second, the two of them Disapparated. …
