- H.P.S.T Chapter 1675: The Ghosts of the Ravenclaw Family
The curtains swayed gently, and Harry heard whispers drifting from the phantom of the Veil of Death. He couldn’t make out what they were saying; the voices were as ethereal as the Veil itself, but he knew they were the voices of the dead. Beyond the Veil lay the realm of death, the world of the departed.
The whispers of the Veil mingled with the chanting of the Dark Wizards, forming a sound that was deeply unsettling.
Harry’s scar began to throb again. It was strange; Voldemort wasn’t here, yet Harry had a strong feeling that he was.
He couldn’t explain why, but the feeling was unmistakable: Voldemort was here, inside this very building. Harry strained to spot him, wondering if he might be hidden among the hooded Dark Wizards whose faces he couldn’t see. But he found nothing. He only saw many orbs of light, green and blue, intertwined and merging.
These magical energies collided within the building, eventually converging on the two massive stone pillars beside the phantom of the Veil of Death.
Harry was tied to one of them. He felt the pillar behind him growing hotter and hotter — it was the heat of magic.
The stone pillars began to waver, becoming half-illusory, and within their shifting outlines, the long-eroded carvings slowly reappeared.
On the pillar opposite him, Harry saw the words form:
For death is no boundary, nor do the fallen sleep eternally.
It was the incantation that opened the Veil of Death. When Harry had spoken those words before the diagram, the archway drawn on the parchment had opened.
The opened archway had seemed to lead to another realm — and to that terrifying creature…
‘She can’t be allowed to get the incantation. Voldemort must not be allowed to open the Veil.’
Harry thought desperately. He hoped the gathering blue light would become stronger so that it could suppress the Dark Witch’s magic. But this time, the Dark Witch seemed unharmed. She continued casting her spell, though her expression was extremely painful, her delicate face contorted in agony.
Harry had once seen a similar face on the cover of an ancient book of Dark Magic when he had sneaked into the Restricted Section of the library late at night.
Not the features themselves, but that same agony, that same ferocity — the hallmark of evil Dark magic.
Although the magic represented by the blue light couldn’t stop the Dark Witch this time, there was one small relief: the letters shimmering on the spectral pillars were still indistinct.
Some force was masking them, preventing the Dark Witch from reading the inscription. The voices from within the phantom of the Veil of Death grew louder and louder. For a moment, Harry felt he could understand what they were saying, and then he realized it was the Dark Witch’s voice.
“O souls of the past, ancient powers that call to you — show your true forms!” she cried, sweeping her wand in a broad arc.
With her movement, the blue and green intertwined light accelerated and converged on the two pillars, making them even brighter.
On the opposite pillar, Harry saw many orbs of light swirling around it.
One moment they shifted into human-shaped ghosts, the next they dissolved into formless spheres of light.
The blue light was helping the ghosts coalesce, while the green light scattered them again.
The Dark Witch deliberately left a gap, allowing some blue light to pass through so the ghosts could take form. That seemed to be her intention. Soon, a fully transparent ghost appeared beside Harry — an old wizard in archaic robes, with a clearly visible Ravenclaw crest on his chest.
He glared furiously at the Dark Witch and shouted, “Living one, begone! In the name of Ravenclaw, the secret of this door must not be revealed!”
“Ravenclaw? How laughable! What’s left of a Wizarding family that went extinct a thousand years ago? I wouldn’t even bother digging their scraps out of a rubbish heap,” the Dark Witch sneered, pointing her wand at the ghost. “You’re finally showing yourselves, you foolish Ravenclaw spirits. Go where you belong; you can no longer stop me.”
“Leave this place, witch! The secret of this door should not be revealed again.”
“Hahaha — your secret, hidden for centuries, now belongs to me, ghosts!” the Dark Witch laughed. “How pathetic! In life, you were sacrificed here for your stupidity, becoming offerings to Death. Even in death, you are worthless, a bunch of brainless fools. You can no longer stop me from obtaining the spell.”
“Leave this place! This door leads only to death!”
“Leave here, living one!”
“Out of my way, spirits!” the Dark Witch snapped impatiently, waving her wand once more. Magic surged towards the orbs of light on the stone pillar, but the souls clinging to it did not scatter; they only wound themselves more tightly together, resisting her spell.
“Depart, the ancient evil has descended —”
“Depart, there is nothing behind that door that you seek —”
“Silence! Stupid Ravenclaw ghosts, you will not hinder me again!” the Dark Witch screamed. “I need more power!”
The chanting from the Dark Wizards on the lower steps grew louder and faster, the green beam connecting their wands to hers thickening. The phantom of the Veil of Death hanging in the air sharpened in clarity.
The Dark Witch’s power was growing — but still not enough!
“Not enough, still not enough! I need more power!” she shouted again. “Release those souls!”
At her command, countless translucent souls were released, and milky-white light shot into the sky.
The souls let out terrifying, soul-piercing howls as they flew in all directions, scattering in panic.
“Hahaha, more souls, more power! Offer everything to our master!” the Dark Witch roared. “It’s time, open the box!”
Open the box?!
What was the Dark Witch talking about?
Why was she ordering the release of so many souls?
How were these souls collected? Were they from innocent victims killed indiscriminately?
Harry tried to think, but his scar was burning more and more fiercely.
This time, he saw no visions. He did not slip into Voldemort’s mind.
He was bound tightly to the pillar, locked helplessly in this terrifying reality. He stared intently at the Dark Witch, trying to understand what was happening. Then he noticed her gaze shift toward the other stone pillar — and only then did Harry realize what was going on.
Following her gaze, Harry saw the Dark Wizard standing beneath the opposite pillar open a box, revealing its contents.
It was the statue of the evil god!
Absolutely, though he couldn’t see it clearly, Harry was certain.
His scar throbbed with pain; he was certain it was the statue of the evil god, Voldemort’s Horcrux!
