- H.P.S.T Chapter 1686: The Dark Witch's Magic
Centered on the Veil of Death, the phantom forms of the two evil gods appeared in the sky, their powerful magical energy spreading outward in all directions.
These were the powers of death and devouring!
The ground shook beneath the evil gods’ power; space itself quivered and warped.
The castle, too, was wildly unstable. Aside from the monsters reviving in the garden below, Evan felt as though even the air had grown thick and viscous — like it was coated in oil. Moving through it became increasingly difficult, and even breathing was no longer easy.
Under the violent impact of that magic, the blue radiance that formed the Ravenclaw family’s castle and lands rapidly dissipated.
The temperature around Evan and the light before his eyes dropped at a visibly alarming rate, stirring up various negative emotions. The remaining blue light and magical power were compressed around him, or more precisely, around Ravenclaw’s Diadem.
The blue light grew dimmer, and the magic of the Diadem weakened by the second.
What little light remained allowed Evan to cling to the last scraps of his sanity, preventing him from being completely lost to the influence of the evil gods.
But that was all it could do now. It could no longer affect the surroundings as it had moments before. Evan could already feel that this world had changed. In the dim light, numerous black phantoms appeared around him, and within his mind echoed endlessly repeating, meaningless murmurs.
The black phantoms and the maddening whispers — these were each a manifestation of one of the two evil gods’ powers!
“Expecto Patronum!” Evan summoned his Patronus, but it accomplished almost nothing.
The moment his Patronus left the tip of his wand and began to take on a corporeal form, it was swiftly compressed into a tiny white sphere of light, flickering and seemingly on the verge of dissipating.
To maintain that fragile glow, Evan’s magic was being drained at a terrifying speed.
He waved his wand and dismissed the Patronus. This was pointless.
The combined power of the two evil gods was simply too overwhelming; his magic was utterly incapable of contending with it.
He had no idea how the Dark Witch had managed it, but without allowing the evil gods to fully descend, she had nonetheless amplified their power.
What did she intend to do with such concentrated magic?
By what means did she intend to obtain the spell needed to open the Veil of Death?
Evan could no longer think clearly. The shadowy figures around him grew increasingly bizarre and distorted, and the low whispers in his mind became more and more maddening. He gasped for breath, knowing his time was running out.
Once the magic of Ravenclaw’s Diadem was completely exhausted, he would be utterly lost.
In fact, Evan could already feel his reason slipping away; the enhancement to his intellect granted by the Diadem had ceased to function, and one terrifying thought after another flooded his mind, compelling him to do horrible things.
When the evil gods descended, only death and madness would wander this land.
Only death and madness would remain.
Evil and darkness grew ever more oppressive. Evan stumbled, his footing unsteady.
He desperately tried to concentrate, stubbornly resisting the influence of the two evil gods’ magic. He gripped his wand tightly, but a bone-chilling cold continued to pour ceaselessly out of the darkness, making him tremble uncontrollably.
In the seemingly endless castle, he continued forward alone, not knowing what awaited him ahead.
Evan was not even sure if he was heading in the right direction.
Without the guidance of the ghost Marcus, the ancient castle grew increasingly terrifying, like a complex labyrinth, with dark incarnations becoming the most dreadful monsters within, closing in on Evan from all sides, ready to devour him.
Evan gasped for breath, and through the massive arched window beside him, he saw the central tower drawing ever closer.
He was heading in the right direction!
The tower was getting closer, and whatever the Ravenclaw family’s spell meant to grant rest to the dead might be, Evan could only hope it would work.
Suddenly, a scalp-crawling shriek echoed up from the garden, as though it had risen from the depths of hell.
In the garden, the stone monsters had finally come to life.
They flew out of the castle, wreaking havoc, the only remarkable thing being that these monsters seemed oblivious to him. These terrifying creations of evil gods flew off to who-knows-where, spreading boundless fear and despair.
“The Dark Witch’s magic, the evil gods…”
At the instant the stone statues revived, Evan sensed an unusual magical power.
This was power independent of the Dark Witch, the two evil gods, and Ravenclaw’s Diadem. Almost at once, he identified its source. Evan took out the Time-Turner hanging around his neck; its hands were spinning wildly.
“Time has been altered!” Evan murmured, turning his head to look at the center of the lake.
This time, his gaze seemed to pierce through the endless darkness, the sickly green magical glow, and the two enormous phantoms of the evil gods in the sky, to see what was happening above the ruins of the Veil of Death.
There, the Dark Witch’s magic was altering time.
At this moment, Evan finally understood what the Dark Witch was doing: she was recreating the scene of the Ravenclaw family opening the Veil of Death.
The power of the evil gods was altering time, causing the entire space to tremble.
The Dark Witch had completely lost her mind!
Using magic to tamper with time and forcibly reenact ancient spells would plunge the magic of this land into total chaos.
This was absolutely the most serious event, an absolutely forbidden evil Dark magic.
To be more precise: a Time-Turner could send someone back to a particular point in time, but by relying on the power of the evil gods, the Dark Witch was using her magic to cause events from a past temporal node to manifest again on the correct timeline.
If the Department of Mysteries’ Time Room still existed, it would undoubtedly be in chaos right now due to the Dark Witch’s magic.
And the impact of this event would not stop there; it would spread in unimaginable ways. After all, the Dark Witch was attempting to recreate events from a thousand years ago, the momentous event of the Ravenclaw family opening the Veil of Death.
Evan did not know what had happened when the Ravenclaw family opened the Veil of Death; they had clearly failed, as Herpo the Foul had not descended — but then again, it was hard to say. Perhaps they had succeeded, yet no evil god had descended and the world had not been destroyed. After all, the evil god Herpo had transformed into was different from other evil gods; its body, brain, and eye had been dismantled and sealed by Salazar Slytherin, leaving only its soul within the Veil of Death.
However, judging from the current situation, that soul seemed far stronger than anyone had imagined. If the magic of the past was successfully reenacted, and the phantom of the Veil of Death was opened once again, then perhaps the power of Herpo would descend into reality in this way…
