Novel Info

Although the guy in front of him seemed like an idiot, Evan didn’t let his guard down. He cautiously surveyed his surroundings.

This place made him uneasy; the magic around him was too strong.

He could sense that the Ravenclaw family’s castle was completely intact at this point in time. The powerful magical array was whole, and all the magic within the castle converged here, gathering into the enormous spherical magic stone sculpture in front of him.

The magic was so abundant, so visibly present, that it was something utterly unimaginable in later ages.

This was the difference between low magic and high magic!

Although he still did not know what this spell was meant to do, there was no doubt that it was extraordinarily powerful. If Hogwarts Castle had such powerful magic for defense, Evan felt there would be no need whatsoever to fear an invasion by Voldemort or any Dark wizards.

This was not a force any single wizard — or rather, any wizard bound by a mortal body — could possibly contend with.

“So, what does it feel like to travel through time? Is it the same as using magic? Like eating a honey lollipop? You know, I’ve read a lot of magic books and known a lot of spells and casting techniques, but because I can’t sense magic, I’ve never experienced what it feels like to cast a spell. My sister told me it feels really good, like having a big honey lollipop in your mouth, but not overly sweet…”

Dalian rambled endlessly. It was obvious that, in his excitement, he had far too much he wanted to say to Evan.

The person he mentioned most often was his sister, followed by his aunt, and then his father.

In his world, it seemed like only these three people existed; he seemed to have no other playmates his age.

This guy in front of Evan was nothing like the Dalian he had seen before, the wise-looking one who seemed to have seen through everything.

This Dalian, with his physical form, tone, expressions, and everything else, perfectly matched his age; he was just a thirteen or fourteen-year-old boy. Even when Evan did not respond, he could go on talking endlessly.

“Why did Lady Ravenclaw bring me here?” Evan asked directly, ignoring Dalian’s idiotic questions.

He had neither the interest nor the time to share what it felt like to use magic.

To Evan, the Dalian standing before him was merely a nameless figure from a thousand years ago.

Before entering the Ravenclaw family’s castle, he had not even known that such a person had existed.

Once the trouble at hand was dealt with, he doubted the two of them would ever cross paths again.

He had come here because Lady Rowena Ravenclaw wanted him to — so that he could help resolve the troubles of the Ravenclaw family, as well as the crisis of the Veil of Death. More than anything, Evan hoped that this matter would be connected to Slytherin’s key to the secret treasure.

“Oh, right, this is the important part. My aunt only mentioned that someone would appear when I needed help the most, so here you are! Ah, and I see you’re wearing my aunt’s Diadem, the Diadem of Wisdom. It is indeed here with you. Are you her heir? Which House are you from? The one named after Ravenclaw? You don’t look much older than me!” Dalian said, looking at the Diadem on Evan’s head. He had gone off-topic again. “To be honest, I thought the person who came would be an adult wizard, or someone very strong, like Godric Gryffindor. I saw him when I was a child. He was at least three times my size, incredibly strong. He was definitely the most powerful wizard I’ve ever seen. His swordsmanship was also superb; even the captain of the guard couldn’t beat him. The trouble I’m dealing with now really requires a wizard with tremendous strength…”

‘This guy doesn’t seriously think that the more muscular a wizard is, the stronger he must be, does he?!’

‘What does he even imagine wizards to be?’

Gryffindor really did not set a good example — he was an utter outlier among wizards..

It was clear that, under Gryffindor’s influence, Dalian didn’t quite trust Evan, seemingly finding him lacking in strength.

“So, what exactly is your trouble?” Evan asked impatiently. This Dalian was incredibly annoying; even at Hogwarts, no first-year wizard had ever been this full of questions.

“It’s my father, my sister, and the rest of the family — they’ve gone mad!” said Dalian, his expression suddenly turning somber. “They won’t admit it, of course, but I think they’re insane. Otherwise, why would they want to open that gate outside the castle?! Everything’s been a mess since six months ago. They’ve become increasingly different, increasingly distant. My sister even refuses to play with me anymore. I can sense that the terrible thing my aunt warned me about is about to happen.”

“Hmm?!” Evan blinked. Was that about the Ravenclaw family attempting to open the Veil of Death? The castle hadn’t been destroyed yet — could it be that he had returned to the very moment, a thousand years ago, when the Veil of Death was first opened?

He felt as though he finally understood, understood what he had been brought back to this point in time to do.

“You know what? Four months ago, one night, my sister came to me for help. She broke into my room in the middle of the night, crying, and told me she heard a voice talking in her head. She was being driven crazy. It was strange, I didn’t hear anything. What was even stranger was that when I asked her about it the next day, she said she had not heard anything. She denied it completely.

“Strange, isn’t it? It’s like she suddenly lost her memory. She’s become more and more unfamiliar since then.” Dalian leaned closer to Evan and lowered his voice. “And that’s when I started paying attention. A lot of people in the castle have been acting oddly. I think that terrible thing my aunt warned me about… is about to happen.

“I’ve looked through a great deal of material — notes left behind by our family’s ancestors, which my aunt kept. In her will, she specifically instructed that these notes be given to me. That has to mean they’re important. According to what’s described in them, I believe the voice my sister said she heard in her head may have been caused by some terrifying creature inside the gate, something within it influencing her.

“In fact, for the past few months I’ve been following the descriptions in those books, drawing all sorts of monsters said to exist beyond the gate. I originally wanted to ask my sister or anyone else if they had ever seen these creatures, but you know what? Father didn’t stop me at all. This would have been unthinkable before. Not only that, he even said my drawings were very good, and had people carve them into stone and place the sculptures down in the great garden below…”
