- H.P.S.T Chapter 1702: The Fleeing God of Death
Evan unleashed streams of magical essence, throwing himself into the battle between the two evil gods.
For a moment, the sky blazed with an eerie interplay of red and green, while blue beams of magic flared intermittently as they pierced the clash.
The whispers of the evil god grew ever more cacophonous and rapid.
Evan tried to ignore these sounds, aiming his magical beam at the evil god’s statue.
Such a powerful magical beam, if it struck the statue, would most likely destroy it.
Destroying the statue would solve the problem of the devouring evil god and also destroy Voldemort’s Horcrux.
This was a rare opportunity to solve many problems once and for all.
Evan’s thinking was sound, and his general strategy was correct, but hitting the evil god’s statue with the magical beam was far more difficult than he had expected.
The dark god’s projection appeared intangible, but in truth it was composed of countless layers of magic, forming a barrier that obstructed his attacks.
When the incoming beam collided with it, white light rippled outward before dissipating into nothingness.
Evan destroyed a portion of the evil god’s phantom, but this portion quickly regenerated.
Though the evil god now roared in fury under his assault, he hadn’t been fundamentally damaged. Without destroying the core statue, the evil god could still recover his power by devouring flesh, souls, and magic, becoming stronger again.
The only reason he did not retaliate against Evan was that he was fully focused on suppressing and consuming Herpo the Foul.
On the other side, Herpo’s performance had also greatly disappointed Evan.
This guy was completely unreliable. When Evan first joined the fight, he could at least contend with the Devouring Evil God, creating openings for him. However, as Evan increased the frequency of his magic beams, entangling the Devouring Evil God, Herpo actually tried to flee.
Yes, flee!
Without any warning, he suddenly retreated, commanding swarms of black flies to form a barrier between himself and the Devouring evil god, while his true form withdrew towards the Veil of Death, clearly attempting to seize the chance to slip back inside.
“Weak existence, accept the arrangement of fate. Our destinies shall merge into one.”
The moment he realized that Herpo the Foul was trying to escape, the Devouring evil god ignored Evan entirely. His eerie red light flared brighter than ever, and countless tendrils rose from the evil god’s statue, making it look even more grotesque.
Numerous tentacles also extended from the phantom surrounding the statue, each ending in a gaping maw filled with fangs.
They wrapped tightly around the projection of the God of Death formed from Herpo, devouring him relentlessly.
Within seconds, the black flies blocking the space between the two evil gods were completely consumed.
Behind them, the Devouring evil god’s hideous, tree-trunk-like body pressed forward without pause.
At this point, he showed no intention of defending against Evan’s attacks.
He was frantically devouring Herpo’s power, replenishing the strength he had lost under Evan’s bombardment.
“Truly utterly useless!” Evan sighed, watching the fleeing God of Death.
Both were evil gods, but their power and magical domains were vastly different.
If Herpo the Foul had chosen not to flee at this moment, but instead confronted the Devouring evil god head-on using the power within the Veil of Death, Evan might have found an opening to strike and destroy the statue in one decisive blow.
But now…
Perhaps due to his extreme weakness, Herpo’s performance was far from impressive.
He was no match for the Devouring God, even though the Devouring God’s current power was less than a ten-millionth of his original strength.
This couldn’t continue!
Evan no longer harbored any hope of joining forces with Herpo the Foul to deal a serious blow to the Devouring God. He could see it clearly now: Herpo, and the deathly power he embodied, were utterly useless. Not only could he not harm the Devouring God, he was instead becoming a source of nourishment for him.
If this continued, the final result would likely be that the Devouring God, enduring Evan’s magical attacks, would completely devour Herpo the Foul and the power of the Veil of Death, then use that power to descend into reality, or turn around and destroy Evan.
This was not the outcome Evan hoped for, and it was far from what should have happened at this point in time.
“Attacking like this is useless. I have to gather more magic and unleash it all at once!”
Before the Devouring God could repair himself, he needed to break through his defenses in one go and destroy the core statue of the evil god.
Evan stopped firing the magical beams. He needed to seize control of far more magic.
At this moment, the magic surrounding him was almost limitless. Even though he had just expended a considerable amount, magic continued to surge from below the castle. The magic accumulated by the Ravenclaw family over a thousand years had reached a level that defied imagination.
The problem now was how to control it!
Evan used his own magic to control and guide it. As he had realized before, his personal magic was already formidable by the standards of mortal wizards, yet before such a vast ocean of power it was no more than a single drop. The amount he could truly control and direct was very limited.
“Not enough, still not enough!”
Evan concentrated all his strength, unleashing the power of Gryffindor’s Philosopher’s Stone with all his might.
Unlike the magic gathered from the castle, the power of the Stone was entirely under his control.
He did not know how Gryffindor had achieved it, but the magic contained within the Stone seemed almost inexhaustible. Never before had Evan drawn upon it so completely, without restraint — because under normal circumstances, his body would have been the first thing to fail.
But in his current state, Evan was no longer certain what he was.
It felt as though he no longer possessed a physical body at all, having become pure magic instead. Even as he released the Stone’s power without reserve, he felt no pain whatsoever.
Since there was no pain, Evan naturally had no reservations and unleashed his full power.
He wanted to gather enough magic to destroy the evil god statue in one fell swoop.
As Evan gathered his magic for the final blow, Herpo the Foul, under the pressure of the devouring evil god, was steadily retreating. He now had no power to resist at all. His body, wrapped in swirling green light, hovered above the Veil of Death, ensnared by countless writhing tentacles.
The tentacles were like chains, tightly binding him and frantically devouring his power.
And this was only the beginning.
Along Herpo’s body, the writhing tentacles extended upwards towards the Veil of Death.
Under the crushing pressure of magic, the buildings surrounding the Veil of Death collapsed completely, reduced to drifting dust. Only the Veil of Death stood there. From his vantage point, Evan could clearly see what lay there; as expected, the Ravenclaw family’s wizards, the evil god’s followers, and any other Dark wizards were all dead. Not a single living figure remained in the vicinity of the Veil of Death.
The Ravenclaw wizards had been wiped out to the last — but their magic had not failed.
A ghastly green light emanated from the Veil of Death, and Evan could clearly see that the Veil had indeed been opened!
