- H.P.S.T Chapter 1704: The Ultimate Strike
In Evan’s expectations, Herpo the Foul and the Devouring God should have been evenly matched.
Herpo was fighting on his home ground; the Veil of Death behind him was his divine domain, the place where the power of death was at its strongest. With countless aberrant creations forming a vast Dark legion, he should, at the very least, have been able to put up a fight.
Even if he was outmatched, he shouldn’t have been this weak.
But in reality, Herpo was completely overwhelmed, his power mercilessly devoured.
As for his Dark army, it had been reduced to nothing more than cannon fodder, becoming tools thrown forward to hinder the Devouring God.
They surged forth relentlessly, charging towards the Devouring God, without hesitation even if they were annihilated in the blink of an eye.
If one disregarded the question of allegiance and simply viewed the scene, it was truly a breathtaking magical war!
However, considering their actual positions, Evan had to admit that Herpo the Foul was far too weak, weak to an almost absurd degree, completely inconsistent with the power he had displayed before, even inferior to his three fragmented parts that had once been sealed separately.
He was now desperate to flee, but there was no way out. His body, or perhaps his magical core, was tightly gripped by the tentacles of the Devouring God, which never allowed him to retreat back through the Veil of Death. Even so, he dared not turn around to resist.
“Weak existence, our destinies shall merge into one. We shall become whole — and you shall gain glory through this union!”
Now, these words had almost become the main theme of the evil god’s whispers.
He wanted to devour Herpo and merge with him.
He wanted to use Herpo’s body and power to descend into the real world and then summon his true form located in the endless void.
Amidst the cacophony of whispers, the tentacles of the Devouring God clung tightly to the Veil of Death. Seemingly dissatisfied with the slow flow of power and Dark creatures emerging from within, he actually began extending his tentacles into the Veil of Death.
As he pushed farther inside, Evan could hear Herpo’s agonized wails.
He really couldn’t hold on any longer!
Billows of black smoke poured out from inside the Veil of Death, thick and choking, like blood spilling into the sky, blotting out everything and lingering without dispersing.
Thick tentacles, one after another, penetrated the Veil of Death. What had begun as cautious probing along the stone walls around the Veil had turned into a direct, brutal impalement through its center. The spectral form of Herpo hovering above the gate shuddered violently, on the verge of dispersing at any moment.
If this continued, Herpo would be completely devoured by the Devouring God.
“Strange, the Devouring God seems to completely suppress Herpo. What’s the reason?”
Evan couldn’t make sense of it. It didn’t feel as though Herpo was simply too weak, but rather that he was completely countered by the Devouring God.
The Devouring God could control other evil gods?
Never heard of that!
The only evil gods Evan had ever encountered were these two, and this was his first time witnessing a battle between gods. He had no way of knowing whether this was normal — but regardless, Herpo was utterly pathetic.
Completely unreliable, feeding himself to the enemy with alarming enthusiasm.
In the end, Evan would have to rely on himself.
He needed to accelerate the gathering and control of his magic power to launch an attack before Herpo was completely devoured.
Evan had fully activated the magic power of Gryffindor’s Philosopher’s Stone and quickly discovered something different.
It was important to understand that the Philosopher’s Stone’s magic was not limitless!
Even though Gryffindor had once infused it with immense magic, after nearly a thousand years and so many uses, most of its magic had been depleted. When Evan had used it before, cracks had even appeared on the Stone’s surface.
That was a sign that its magic was about to run out, and since then, Evan had intentionally reduced the number of times he used the Philosopher’s Stone.
This was, after all, the key to Gryffindor’s secret treasure, containing the magic left behind by Gryffindor. To burn through it completely before the treasure was even opened, to the point where the Philosopher’s Stone crumbled into dust… that would have been nothing short of ridiculous!
But now…
Evan could feel the magic from the Philosopher’s Stone flowing out continuously, becoming part of his own power.
How strange!
He focused his senses and quickly discovered the difference.
Besides releasing magic, Gryffindor’s Philosopher’s Stone was also absorbing magic from its surroundings.
The rate of absorption far exceeded the rate of release.
Magic that passed through the Philosopher’s Stone was refined, transformed into power that Evan could directly control.
In fact, it wasn’t just Gryffindor’s Stone. The Philosopher’s Stone embedded in Ravenclaw’s Diadem was doing the same — absorbing and releasing magic simultaneously.
These two keys to the secret treasure were like two power cores, constantly transforming the surrounding magic.
Before this, Evan had only allowed Gryffindor’s Philosopher’s Stone to release magic. He had activated only one power core — and not even at full capacity. After noticing the anomaly, he deliberately tried to guide the Philosopher’s Stone to absorb the surrounding magic.
As expected, under his control, the wandering magic in the air was drawn in at a dramatically increased speed — far faster than before.
As more magic surged in, the orange-red light emanating from the Stone grew brighter.
With the increased absorption speed, the release of magic from the Stone also accelerated.
Evan could clearly feel the amount of magic he was able to control and guide expanding rapidly.
But this wasn’t enough; it was still not enough to break through the Devouring God’s defenses. He needed to seize control of all the surrounding magic and unleash a single, overwhelming strike. While maintaining control over Gryffindor’s Philosopher’s Stone, Evan split his focus and reached out to activate the Philosopher’s Stone embedded in Ravenclaw’s Diadem.
The second power core ignited!
As a large amount of magic was absorbed and released, four magical vortexes appeared at the two stones.
Two positive, two inverse.
Two devouring, two releasing.
Bathed in orange-red and deep-blue radiance, all the magic gathered from the entire castle was mobilized, swirling endlessly around these four magical vortexes.
Because of their extremely rapid rotation, the collisions of magic produced terrifying roars.
Above the Veil of Death, the assault of the evil god’s statue abruptly halted.
He sensed the overwhelming magical pressure surging from the distant castle — and felt unease.
He did not know what kind of spell the human boy was preparing. He had never encountered magic with such a waveform before. But it was undoubtedly extremely powerful, radiating world-destroying power. Even in the ancient magical era, there had never been such terrifying magic.
He could sense two distinct auras of guardian magic — one orange-red, the other deep blue. Those were unmistakably their powers.
But beyond that, there were countless other surges of chaotic yet overwhelming magical pressure — forces even stronger than the guardians themselves!
What kind of magic was this?
For the first time, the Devouring God felt fear.
He had already been defeated by Evan more than once. This moment — right now — was the closest he had ever come to true success. He could not afford to be defeated again.
No matter what spell that human boy was preparing, He had no intention of facing it head-on.
The next second, the statue of the evil god shot violently towards the interior of the Veil of Death…
