- H.P.S.T Chapter 1710: The World of the Dead
Gathering extremely strong magical power, Evan followed the statue of the evil god and rushed into the Veil of Death.
Please believe this — this was absolutely not his intention!
The inside of the Veil of Death was a magical domain created by Herpo the Foul, a realm belonging to an entirely different space.
Evan truly did not want to go in. He did not want to leave the Earth.
But driven by the super-powerful magical beam, he had no control over himself at all.
Chasing after Herpo and the devouring evil god, he was dragged straight into the Veil of Death.
After a violent sensation of tearing, the scene before his eyes shifted, and Evan crossed the barrier between spaces.
The Ravenclaw family territory and the lake disappeared, replaced by a dim, ashen world.
The air was extremely murky. As far as the eye could see, everything was shrouded in dense mist.
“So this is the world of the dead? It’s really awful!”
Evan felt that he was having difficulty breathing. In the thick fog, he could vaguely see the outline of the Veil of Death.
On this side, the Veil stood at a relatively high position. Before the stone gate stretched a vast plaza built of black rock. Hundreds of massive stone pillars rose above it, arranged in a precise and mysterious pattern.
These pillars were so thick that it would take at least three or four adults holding hands to encircle one of them.
At the edge of the plaza, ancient steps descended tier by tier. The entire structure bore a strong resemblance to ancient Greek architecture.
Like an ancient Greek temple, every single stone pillar was adorned with intricate carvings.
Evan’s magical beam shot forward, and he glanced down at the pillars in the plaza below.
The carvings seemed to depict stories of gods and wizards.
Among them, he saw Herpo — the God of Death!
Compared to the other deities, that enormous eye was impossible to miss. Evan spotted it at once, carved into the pillar closest to the Veil of Death. The evil god, transformed from Herpo, floated in the air, while countless wizards knelt below in worship.
On the next pillar, the carvings showed wizards offering up their souls.
Herpo seemed pleased, dense lines radiating outwards from the center of his eye of death.
“Interesting!”
Truly interesting!
Evan was now certain Salazar Slytherin had been here, because he had seen identical stone pillars and carvings in the ruins he had discovered years ago deep within the Acromantula’s lair in the Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts.
Back then, he understood nothing and hadn’t studied the carvings and ruins in any depth.
Evan’s main focus had been on the murals Slytherin had left behind, which seemed to depict magic capable of transforming one into an evil god.
Of course, after a thousand years of weathering and the destruction caused by the Acromantulas, those murals hadn’t left much useful information.
At least, that was how it had seemed to Evan at the time.
He had only skimmed through them and hadn’t found anything useful.
Fortunately, Dumbledore had later visited the site and found the information Evan had overlooked: Salazar Slytherin had left those stone carvings and murals there for a reason, hiding important clues.
Now, all the mysteries were about to be revealed!
The magical beam continued forward, swiftly sweeping past hundreds of stone pillars.
Evan looked up and could vaguely make out the silhouette of a tall building.
The shape of that building was… the Eye of Death!
There was no doubt about it. Evan was too familiar with this structure.
It was the very building depicted on the stone tablet he had obtained from the ruins deep within the Acromantula’s lair.
That colossal, eye-shaped structure — there was no way he could mistake it.
After all, that stone tablet was the most direct clue to Slytherin’s secret treasure; Evan and Hermione had studied it countless times over the years, until every detail was burned into their memories. The map marked on the tablet was something the two of them had searched for again and again, yet could never match to any known location.
Inspired by the deed left by Slytherin, they had even planned to travel to Greece in search of the building.
Naturally, there would have been nothing there. Herpo had long since relocated his lair into this world.
“The building marked on the stone tablet is here. Is the key to Slytherin’s secret treasure inside that building?”
Evan focused intently, feeling he was on the verge of obtaining the key to Slytherin’s secret treasure!
He carefully observed the outline of the building ahead. The two evil gods were fleeing in that direction, but before he could see clearly, everything around him was immediately obscured by a thick fog closing in from all sides, like the fog that perpetually shrouded Azkaban, concealing everything.
Visibility rapidly decreased, even the light of the magical beam was quickly compressed, and Evan could see nothing!
“Your death is at hand!”
At the same moment, a deep voice echoed in his mind.
The voice vanished in an instant, leaving behind utter silence.
“Trying to scare me with cheap tricks!” Evan scoffed disdainfully.
The atmosphere was still tense, but with Herpo in dire straits, he was in no position to frighten anyone now.
In fact, it was Herpo who was nearing his end.
All he had left was his soul energy, and he was already entangled by the Devouring Evil God. Who knew how much longer he could hold out?
That meager soul energy probably wouldn’t be enough to satisfy the Devouring Evil God.
If it weren’t for Evan, he would likely have been finished off long ago.
From what he had seen earlier, the Devouring Evil God seemed to exert a powerful suppressive effect on him.
Driven by the magical beam, Evan sped forward, closing the distance between himself and the evil god’s statue.
Seemingly sensing the threat, the surrounding mist thickened, obscuring everything.
At this moment, everything before Evan’s eyes was a white blur.
An unprecedented sense of oppression assailed him from all directions.
He continued forward, relentlessly advancing through the chaos, seemingly without end!
The sky and earth seemed completely inverted; everything within sight looked the same, making it impossible to discern directions.
He could no longer be sure whether he was still moving towards the structure. The evil god’s statue, which had been so close, had vanished. If it weren’t for the still-flickering red light ahead, Evan might have believed he was truly lost.
The sensation was like being deep beneath the sea, his unease growing stronger with every passing moment.
“This fog is magical, the magic of the Devouring God!”
Evan immediately realized. The Devouring God was already capable of controlling this world!
“Lost lamb…”
“In eternal darkness and solitude, all resistance is futile.”
“The God of Death has died. Your journey has reached its end!”
“Abandon your futile struggle. All things shall slowly fall into slumber upon this land!”
The whispered voice of the evil god, which had disappeared, reappeared in Evan’s mind, and the Devouring God’s power rapidly increased.
“This is really annoying!”
Without hesitation, Evan immediately increased the magic output of the Philosopher’s Stone…
