Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 12 (Part 1):
Darien was right. Every night, Helmut ate Mato and writhed in pain.
But the pain gradually weakened, and the time it appeared shortened. After a few days, the effects became distinctly noticeable.
Upon waking up, his head felt light and clear. Acceleration in learning, a more agile body with developed muscles—these changes were evident.
Helmut learned a few more basic movements from Darien: horizontal slashes, vertical cuts, and diagonal strikes.
His perspective strangely altered. Should we say the trajectory of the sword became more vivid to his eyes? It was different from improved eyesight.
‘Has my concentration improved?’
Under the influence of Mato, his mind cleared. Concentration became stronger gradually. It felt like the sword adhered to his palm.
When he swung his sword until his whole body was sore, he felt a strange sense of accomplishment.
A heavy voice fell on Helmut, who was looking at his faint hand.
“You’ve come to enjoy the sword.”
Yes, this is what joy feels like. It’s not just about getting stronger. The thrill of the moment of swinging the sword.
The immersion felt when becoming one with the sword brought a pleasure as if the world was brightly opened.
It was the first time something had sucked him in so swamp-like.
‘It’s a relief.’
Darien was relieved. Being diligent alone is not enough. To be the best in one area, you must be able to find joy there.
He was a kid with very little emotion, so Darien was worried about what to do if he couldn’t enjoy the sword.
‘Good motivation has been created.’
Darien left a word and turned around.
“You are in your growth period, so you need to take appropriate rest. Keep your bedtime.”
For several months, Helmut swung his sword countless times. One day, when he was learning basic movements and training his body to create a vessel, Darien finally said to Helmut.
“Do you remember what I said about Vis?”
“Yes.”
“Vis is an intangible power, much like the magic of monsters. You must have felt it all along. Even the seed of darkness embedded in your heart is essentially an intangible force, albeit with a different attribute. By accumulating Vis, you can confront monsters.”
When he first met Darien, he felt a suppressing aura. Darien never overtly displayed his strength, but a powerful Vis was condensed inside him, threatening even Elaga and Naho.
“Vis is a power that becomes stronger the longer you accumulate it. However, even that has not much meaning if it cannot be based on a strong body and operation method. The swordsman receives the energy of the atmosphere as Vis through the sword.”
The calm lecture continued.
“Your body is now prepared to absorb Vis. What I’m going to teach you is the most effective Vis training method known on the continent. Now, follow my instructions: swing the sword, breathe, and meld the energy mixed in the air into your body. That energy is Vis. Your task is to freely manipulate that Vis and manifest it through the sword.”
Darien held a wooden sword. The wooden sword in his hand looked like a heavy iron sword just by its momentum.
As Darien began to move, Helmut forgot to exhale, staring at him. Even Helmut, who had just stepped into the category of swordsman, could understand it. There was no clumsiness, a smooth flow, and perfectly controlled movements. It was so close to perfection that it was impressive.
The muscular giant Darien moved unbelievably lightly. However, the movement of him extending and swinging the sword felt a tremendous energy. The thing that pricks the skin and tightens the breath was similar to the magic of Elaga that he had felt before.
After a while, Darien stopped moving. It felt like he completed a perfect circle, returning to the starting point.
Helmut noticed that Darien deliberately performed the movements at a slower pace.
Then he could have swung the sword at a speed he couldn’t see, so the next thing to say would definitely be.
“Now try as I did.”
It was by no means an easy task. He had to align not only the sword but also his breath and rhythm. However, Darien didn’t show any mercy.
“Do it properly!”
If there were even a slight error, thunderous roars and fists would fly. Darien, who had inexplicably softened before, raised his whip again.
Helmut gritted his teeth and concentrated. The movement shown by Darien was impressive. It was shockingly great.
The desire to achieve that moved Helmut.
‘He is truly a strong man.’
Darien stood far and high enough to feel distant. He understands why Elaga couldn’t answer the question whether he could be as strong as Darien.
‘But me too.’
He had no intention of giving up. Time was on Helmut’s side.
