Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 122 (Part 2):
Basil’s condition worsened. He had lost a lot of blood, and although the bleeding had somewhat stopped, the wound was far from healing on its own.
Fortunately, soon after, a surge of magical energy approached.
Three figures appeared from thin air: Asuka, Instructor Patricia, and Professor Dwayne, who had cast the spell.
“Over here, Professor!”
James waved his hand. Approaching, Professor Dwayne examined Basil’s leg with a serious expression.
“Hmm? Someone has done first aid. This is a herb effective for blood clotting.”
Although herbology was taught at Greta Academy, it was rare for a student from the swordsmanship department to attend.
“Helmut did it.”
“I see.”
Surprised, Professor Dwayne glanced at Helmut before carefully removing the applied herb. Basil screamed without reserve.
“Aaah!”
“Bear with it. The wound needs to be treated.”
Soon, a healing light flowed from his hands, and Basil’s wound healed cleanly.
Helmut felt a sense of déjà vu.
‘Alea.’
When Alea healed Asuka, she used similar magic. Not well-versed in magic but observing the effects and magical power, there seemed no difference between then and now.
‘A genius indeed.’
A second-year magic department student with skills comparable to a professor. Helmut felt anew the extent of Alea’s abilities. It was best to keep pretending not to know her secret.
Instructor Patricia frowned upon seeing the bloodied trap cut by Helmut’s sword.
“Having such dangerous traps around here…”
“Lack of training. Clumsy enough to step on it.”
Asuka’s casual remark was met with a smack on the head. Thump! Patricia, who had smacked him, then said seriously,
“It seems there really are poachers around. We’ll need to request a crackdown.”
“Is everyone else okay?”
When asked, the instructor shook her head.
“You were the first to rush here after the accident. We need to tell everyone to be careful. Accidents always happen in the forest, big or small. Last year, someone climbed a tree, fell, and nearly died from a head injury. These things happen.”
It seemed the hunting picnic wouldn’t be canceled, though perhaps it would have been better if it were.
Helmut could have made it so if he spoke honestly. Mentioning Black Hawk, especially with Asuka present who had already been attacked, would not be taken lightly.
But he wasn’t hoping for that. The situation was somewhat interesting to him.
An ordinary person might wither in such uncertainty, but not Helmut. He genuinely enjoyed this unusual circumstance.
‘I want to know why they’re doing this.’
Helmut decided to enjoy speculating. Whatever happened, he was confident danger wouldn’t come his way.
After casting a few more healing spells, Professor Dwayne stood up, looking a bit fatigued. Healing magic was said to be difficult, after all.
Instructor Patricia asked,
“Basil has lost a lot of blood. Even though the wound is healed, it’s not safe for him to go back alone. Is anyone willing to accompany him? One might not be enough, so two would be better. Professor Dwayne needs to conserve his magical energy for any other emergencies. We can’t use teleportation magic all the way to the academy.”
With a large number of students and only three supervisors, leaving the instructor’s position open at such a time was difficult.
“I’ll go.”
“Me too.”
Wesley and Mitchel stepped forward. They were closer to Basil than the other three, but if two of the three went, one would be left alone. It was appropriate for them to go.
“Let’s head back to the campsite. It’s better to go on horseback. If we contact the academy, they can meet us halfway following the main road.”
Professor Dwayne stroked his chin, worried. Almost everyone seemed ready to return when Asuka raised his hand.
“Can I go separately? I’ve got some loot.”
His face was nonchalant, showing no concern for his fellow student.
“What kind of significant loot could that be?”
“You’d be surprised.”
Asuka grinned naturally.
“Just be careful not to step on any traps. As for you guys, you can do whatever you want. Whether you go back as you are or hunt a little more.”
“We’ll…”
After exchanging looks, Group 9’s members unanimously decided,
“We’ll return to the campsite.”
After witnessing such a horrific scene, the desire to hunt had vanished. There was no guarantee that the area was free of other traps.
Instructor Patricia nodded, taking the trap that had caught Basil’s leg.
“Alright, let’s go together. Helmut, what about you?”
“I’ll stay with Asuka.”
“Both of you be careful. Don’t come back too late.”
“Okay.”
After they left, Asuka playfully tapped Helmut’s shoulder.
“I knew you’d stay.”
“We’re supposed to stick together in pairs.”
“Right, I’ll take care of the bear, and you can hunt.”
As they resumed their conversation, Asuka suddenly widened his eyes. They found themselves in a similar situation.
“Huh? I need to take care of the bear, but what about hunting?”
Leaving him to act alone wasn’t an option, but neither was dragging a large bear along for hunting.
Helmut opened his mouth, ready to pick up where he left off.
