Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 161 (Part 2):
“Hmm.”
The commander of the Palma Knights looked down at the compass in his hand. It was a device that detected demonic beasts in close proximity.
It was reacting towards the oasis. That meant there were still demonic beasts there.
After a while, he stood up and commanded.
“We depart immediately. Stay alert.”
The oasis seen from a distance was in ruins. There were remnants of huts, but all had collapsed.
Starving beasts must have picked off those hiding, wiping them out.
Yet, the view of the oasis from afar was as peaceful as it could be.
“Horten, Kenneth, Alex! Advance and scout the path!”
“Yes!”
The three knights named by the commander dashed towards the oasis as if leading the charge.
Suddenly, one of the advancing knights, Alex, swayed for a moment. One of the horse’s feet got stuck in the sand and stumbled.
“What’s this?”
Alex tried to regain balance immediately.
But the horse collapsed sideways. Hee-hee-hee! It seemed as if a hole had formed in the ground, with the sand being rapidly sucked in. It was a suddenly formed gigantic pit.
Swoosh- With the sound of sand brushing, Alex’s horse screamed its death throes as it was swallowed into the center. The horrendous sound of bones and flesh being crushed followed.
With the speed of floodwaters, Alex, who had jumped off the horse, couldn’t completely escape the flow of the whirlpool.
He landed on the edge but found no firm ground to step on. Alex floundered in the flow of the whirlpool.
‘Sh*t! I’ll be sucked in at this rate!’
“Alex! Grab the rope!”
Another knight threw him a rope. Alex grabbed the rope and activated his Vis, barely managing to stop being sucked in.
But he couldn’t relax yet. A heavy presence, along with demonic energy, was felt from below.
The existence of the beast buried in the sand was clearly revealed.
“It’s a demonic beast!”
Two giant pincers emerged from the ground, revealing an insect-type demonic beast.
Alex struggled to pull himself up while holding the rope.
The beast that had swallowed the horse was now targeting him. In this state, he couldn’t properly defend himself.
“I’ll handle it!”
Horten, who had jumped off his horse, immediately struck at the beast with his sword.
His plan was to slice through and use the demonic beast to jump across the pit. Confident in his action.
However, Horten’s sword, charged with Vis, sank deep into the sand instead of the beast’s body. Thud!
‘What?’
The beast’s movements in the sand were faster than expected. Horten’s forearm, along with his sword, was buried in the sand.
The beast’s body, charged with demonic energy, struck his exposed back. Bang!
“Argh!”
Horten spat blood and tumbled. Even a first-rank knight couldn’t do anything when hit directly. Human bodies are fragile.
The beast, initially targeting Alex, immediately changed its target. Two giant pincers emerged above the sand.
He managed to balance himself, but his lower body was buried in the sand. He was fortunate not to lose his sword.
“Horten! Be careful!”
Kenneth, supporting Alex, couldn’t help him. One wrong move and he’d be pulled in.
Alex moved to help him, but even with the rope in hand, the sand slowed him down.
Horten clenched his teeth. A slight lapse had put him in danger.
Sharp pincers, like horns, aimed at him!
At that moment, a person from the main Palma group dashed in like a bolt of lightning.
“Sir Horten!”
He quickly tied a rope to his saddle and the other end around his waist, throwing himself into the action.
With stark silver hair contrasting the desert, it was Luke Yeager!
“I’m sorry!”
Instead of rescuing, he stepped on Horten’s shoulder to launch himself at the demonic beast. It was for the angle of attack.
This time, the beast couldn’t dodge Luke Yeager’s sword.
The sword tip, skillfully threading between the pincers, pierced the beast’s eye.
-Kuah!
The beast screamed bizarrely, thrashing about. The pit was in turmoil, but the whirlpool ceased.
Luke pulled out his sword and stood atop the beast’s head, striking it once more. Crunch!
Having rarely faced demonic beasts, he instinctively targeted its weakest point.
Unsure how many stabs were needed to kill it, he continued to thrust his sword like hacking, with a crunching sound echoing repeatedly.
Alex approached and said.
“Stop. It’s already dead. No need to waste energy.”
Finally catching his breath, Luke sheathed his sword and asked.
“Sir Horten, are you alright?”
Horten glared at him with smoldering eyes. The internal injury he suffered wasn’t fatal.
It was fortunate to have his life saved, but the fact that it was Luke Yeager who did it added a layer of humiliation due to being stepped on.
He spat out grudgingly.
“Yeah, thanks.”
A shout erupted from behind. Another demonic beast had appeared.
Luke’s gaze now moved beyond the now-still pit. A flicker of excitement ran through him like electricity.
In the face of battle, he was still a blood-filled teenager. Luke Yeager leaped into action again.
