Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 165 (Part 1):
-The great-grandson of Darien Deferth, Luke Yeager.-
Who could have known that the son of the Sword Saint, whose fate was unknown after leaving Basor, whether dead or alive, would be raised in a faraway land?
Luke Yeager was special with terrifying talent, enough to revive and surpass the nostalgia for the missing Sword Saint.
‘At 18, he manifested Vis, and joined the Palma Knights. Is the power of bloodline this fearsome?’
He achieved this without revealing his true identity.
The one who recognized Luke Yeager’s true identity was the current Palma Knight Commander, Lutus Cicero.
He recognized the swordsmanship of the man he had betrayed at a glance.
After seizing the position of the Palma Knight Commander over 20 years ago, he had kept a lukewarm relationship with the First Prince and had not contacted the temple at all.
But, ultimately, he was in the same boat. No matter how much he tried to draw a line, he could not escape. His fate was sealed after the Day of Betrayal.
“A young man who knows nothing, but it can’t be helped.”
Ignorance is not a sin. However, there are things one must face despite not knowing.
As the successor of the Sword Saint, he could not be left alone.
This time too, the temple was just watching. The First Prince was the first to ask for help, followed by Lutus Cicero.
Luke Yeager was an existence that could shake their firm positions. But the fact that he was a descendant of the Sword Saint could not be hidden.
Not just his swordsmanship, but his appearance resembled Darien Deferth a lot. Although there were few left who could closely remember and recognize the appearance of the Sword Saint.
Lutus Cicero could not bury this fact. The king soon became aware of it, and so did the Second Prince.
If he, as the successor of the Sword Saint, sided with the Second Prince, what then? The First Prince was aware of this.
If he was the successor of the Sword Saint, he could influence the Palma Knights beyond just being the Knight Commander.
Originally, the First Prince could receive the support of the Palma Knights with his lacking character only thanks to Lutus Cicero. It was also a deal.
The subtle movements of the Second Prince, investigating the past, were also irritating. Perhaps he might reach the truth.
Even a small spark of doubt, if ignited, then.
‘Before it catches fire, I should remove any possibility of ignition.’
Therefore, after 20 years, a new plan was established. The temple also decided to move. This time, on a smaller scale. More secretly.
They sent a single high priest to Basor. That was Dolos.
Dolos was among the more open-minded high priests. He reinterpreted the world in a broad sense compared to other high priests.
The light of Lumen reaches everything in the world. Thus, even those ferocious beasts were not stains to be erased but targets of Lumen’s light.
Dolos spent a long time finding ways to control beasts through holly magic.
They were strictly hierarchical. The weak follow the strong, and the strong dominate the weak.
If one could control the leader of the demonic beasts, then one could control its followers. They would make a good force.
The research began with the intention of making demonic beasts confront each other without human sacrifice.
‘But it could be used for other purposes as well.’
After extensive research, Dolos succeeded in controlling a monster by implanting a sacred bead in its head.
For his research, he came to this desert right after Darien had killed the previous generation’s Red Scorpion.
The desert of Basor was home to various kinds of beasts. There were plenty of subjects for his research.
With the threat that could endanger even a high priest like him gone, he was about to catch a suitable one for his experiments.
‘I never expected to find it then.’
It was truly a coincidence. Following traces of magic, he found a young Red Scorpion in this rocky mountain.
It was too big to be called young. It was struggling with the core of the previous Red Scorpion it had inherited, unable to digest it fully, in a weak and incomplete state.
Dolos easily subdued it. And after years of research, he succeeded in completely dominating it.
The new Red Scorpion was useful. Dolos used it as bait to lure Darien Deferth.
Showing itself and disturbing the village was enough.
It faithfully hit and ran as the priest commanded. It was also capable of patiently hiding its body as long as it followed orders.
But the research was over. Dolos wanted to research a new beast.
Right after eliminating Darien Deferth, Dolos put it to sleep, hoping it would be useful someday.
And only recently did he find it again. Over the years, having absorbed the core, it had become stronger and more intelligent. The desert demonic beasts absolutely obeyed it.
But even such a creature could not resist the sacred bead implanted in its head.
Dolos decided to use the faithful Red Scorpion for his purposes.
‘Some sacrifices are necessary for the greater good.’
There was no better way to make the Sword Saint’s descendant known than the martial arts tournament. Even if he didn’t want it, the king planned to reveal his existence right after the tournament ended.
Before that, Luke Yeager had to be eliminated.
Invading the village, ruining the final stage of the martial arts tournament, and drawing the Palma Knights into the desert.
And as planned, he succeeded in bringing the Sword Saint’s descendant here, to the very place his great-grandfather was sent to never return!
His great-grandfather didn’t die right away, but here, he would die. Perhaps that would be more merciful than being sent to the Forest of Roots, teeming with demonic beasts.
Lutus Cicero wanted that. Dolos was just guarding the entrance, in case. The handling would be done by him personally.
But then, someone appeared. Dolos knew who he was.
Or, should I say, he knew almost nothing about him.
