Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 172 (Part 2):
Helmut acted as if it was nothing significant. His acting had improved too.
“Just a lady I happened to see in the past who resembled you.”
“Ah, I see.”
Even as she answered, Charlotte seemed puzzled.
Margret and Charlotte didn’t particularly resemble each other. Because of this, Charlotte often wondered if her mother favored Michael because he resembled her more. Wasn’t there a saying that one favors children who look like them?
She then said as if realizing something.
“Then you must be a noble, senior.”
Helmut raised an eyebrow. Her statement implied her mother was of a status that would not have been visible to those outside nobility. A noble, and quite a high-ranking one at that.
Helmut calmly pointed out.
“Academy rules say we shouldn’t talk about such things.”
“Oh, right! I made a mistake.”
Charlotte looked around in a panic, worried a professor might have heard. Typical of her conscientious nature.
“Then I’ll be going now. Take care.”
She bowed her head quickly and turned around.
Helmut watched her go for a moment before starting to move.
‘I’ll find out next vacation.’
He had already solved one matter. Helmut wasn’t in a rush.
On the other hand, Charlotte suddenly stopped in her tracks as she was walking.
‘But Margret Irene, isn’t that mother’s maiden name?’
Why did Helmut remember her mother by her maiden name? It had been almost 20 years since her mother got married. It was a mystery.
Charlotte quickly dismissed her doubts. The new semester was just around the corner, and she was busy. She had no time to dwell on trivial matters.
*
The next day, from dawn, the first in the dormitory, Helmut went out to the training grounds and organized his schedule in his mind.
‘Today is a busy day.’
Once school starts, he wouldn’t be able to wander around the city freely. So, it was better to prepare anything he needed now, especially since he had some errands in the city.
Then someone knocked on the door. Opening it, he saw Sian and Asuka.
“Helmut, won’t you come out to the city with us? We’re planning to shop and hang out.”
Helmut declined without hesitation.
“No. I have plans.”
“What, with Instructor Ethan? Alright, got it.”
Sian made a conclusion and turned away. Asuka followed him. Even after the start of the new semester, the two got along well.
‘It won’t be them.’
Even if he did run into them, it wouldn’t matter. He hadn’t lied.
He quickly got ready and knocked on Alea’s door. Knock, knock.
“Yes, I’m coming out.”
Silver-haired Alea walked out, and it seemed as if a bright light shone before him.
It was a plan made the night before. They had decided to go out to buy textbooks and have a meal together. It wasn’t a big deal.
But there was an uncomfortable sensation. Alea’s expression was also subtly stiff.
‘Is she unwell?’
Helmut brushed his stomach. His stomach could digest anything he ate. He could probably chew on a rock and be fine.
Every time he met Alea, he suffered symptoms he had never experienced before. As if he had become frail.
‘Maybe Alea is the problem. Should I keep my distance?’
Helmut looked at Alea with renewed wariness.
It was odd for a person to seem so radiant, so sparkling. Michael was blond and flashy, but Alea was on another level.
“What are you doing? Aren’t we going?”
The corners of her mouth lifted in a pretty smile. Helmut realized what the word “pretty” meant.
To understand a word he had only known in his mind was a good thing, yet it felt like something was wrong.
But strangely, escaping from it felt harder than swimming against the current.
‘I have a debt to settle anyway.’
He would think about it afterward. Running away was laughable.
“Right, let’s go.”
Helmut nodded decisively. They walked side by side out of the dormitory.
Reaching Baden’s upscale shopping district, where everything from the food to the smallest item was expensive, Alea suggested.
“Shall we go somewhere other than the place we went last time? That place is famous too.”
“As you wish.”
Helmut didn’t know much about it anyway. As long as he paid, it was fine.
Following Alea into the restaurant, they were guided by the staff to their seats.
It was a fancy restaurant with magic sound systems. Blue silk was laid on each white tablecloth, with silverware set on top. The chairs were comfortably cushioned.
‘Nice.’
Human comfort was fickle. Helmut had grown accustomed to luxury. Anything less than this level would hardly catch his eye. He felt like he was becoming more noble-like, following his heritage.
Helmut immediately relaxed and delegated the task of ordering to Alea.
“Choose whatever you like.”
Whether it was seafood, mushrooms, or spicy food, Helmut wasn’t picky and ate everything well. He didn’t have specific tastes.
As Helmut casually looked around, he noticed something.
‘Huh?’
Not too far away, a couple sat facing each other. Familiar faces.
Seeing a couple on a date in such a place was natural. But who the couple was, was the issue.
Patricia, blushing and giggling, and Alan, with an unexpectedly gentle expression.
Thinking of them during lessons, it was a peculiar scene. Sian and Asuka would have made a fuss if they had seen it.
Fortunately, Helmut was the witness. He thought it was just two instructors having an affair and didn’t dwell on it much.
After Alea finished ordering, he noticed where Helmut’s gaze had gone and asked belatedly.
“What is it?”
Alea frowned upon recognizing the two instructors.
“Isn’t that Alan and Patricia? Alan is… from what I know, engaged. And to a daughter of a prominent noble family in Baden.”
Alea’s memory was undeniable. Suddenly, the situation turned dramatic. They had witnessed a scandal involving the instructors.
Yet, both were calm about it.
“How did you know?”
Helmut was more surprised that Alea, who usually showed little interest in others, knew such gossip.
“Alan comes from a well-known noble family in Baden. Patricia is an outsider. It’s beneficial to keep information about the faculty…”
“Would you like to order?”
A server approached with a friendly face and asked. Alea quickly picked a few items from the menu to order.
‘How is it beneficial?’
To leverage weaknesses for blackmail, perhaps. Not a very positive benefit.
Regardless, it didn’t matter. Whether Alan was having an affair with Patricia or Alan had a fiancĂ©e, it was just a sensational topic for the academy, not of importance to Helmut. He was getting quite hungry.
“It’ll be delicious.”
But then there was a problem. Perhaps Patricia was about to call the server because she raised her hand and at the same moment, spotted Helmut and Alea.
“You, you guys!”
It was the first time he saw her eyes widen so much. At the same time, Alan’s face stiffened.
