Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 18 (Part 2):
-You’ve grown a lot. Humans grow up so fast.
Despite the gentle tone, the sight was monstrous enough to petrify.
-Did you think you could easily escape my domain?
-I’ve been eagerly awaiting a guest like you; I can’t let you go that easily!
“Then I’ll just have to kill you and leave.”
Helmut spoke confidently, a bluff. But his resolve hardened.
He wasn’t the trembling child of the old days but a trained swordsman!
Yet, to Naho, he still seemed inconsequential. The snake laughed with a throat full of malice.
-Brave, but foolish human. What can your tiny body do?
-Your flesh looks tender. A unique flavor, no doubt.
-It’s a pity about Darien, but don’t worry. You’ll soon follow him!
-Come, into my belly, child!
The snake’s jaws opened wide. With the speed of a falling rock, it lunged.
-Kuarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
A colossal impact shook the forest as dust obscured vision.
Helmut rolled to the side, quickly standing up.
‘Where’s Naho?’
He strained to see through the dust. His ears rang, and debris stung his body.
‘Where is he?’
A metallic sheen blocked his path. Realizing he was encircled by a moving, ashy-black wall, he felt a chill.
As vision returned, he found himself trapped, the walls closing in.
He was in the heart of Naho’s coil!
Bright eyes gazed down like the sun, dripping venom.
-Where will you run?
-Try to struggle!
No escape. To leap would mean entering Naho’s mouth.
Trapped like a rat in poison!
‘I can’t stay passive.’
Snakes constrict their prey. Though Helmut was too small to be squeezed by Naho, being flattened was inevitable. Nowhere to run.
Helmut watched Naho’s satisfied gaze from high above.
The face of a snake, certain of victory.
A racing pulse sharpened his focus.
‘It won’t go your way.’
Underest estimation, an opponent who underestimates you will inevitably expose a weakness. That opening would provide a chance for a counterattack.
Naho, seeing Helmut as nothing more than the trembling child he once was, was unaware of the changes that had occurred within Helmut since then.
He didn’t know what it meant to be a swordsman who could shape Vis into a weapon.
‘Now!’
Helmut moved like a flash of lightning. To the absolute ruler of this domain, Naho, he was a streak of light cutting through the dark.
Naho, unflustered, opened both mouths wide. No matter where the prey jumped, it would end up crawling into his throat by its own volition.
But Helmut was too fast. This wasn’t the movement Naho expected from a human.
If a head has two sides, there is a gap between them. Helmut squeezed through that gap, pushing off at the right moment to leap upwards.
– No
At the moment the two heads turned to face each other, Helmut was between their eyes. Powerful magic fortified Naho’s flesh.
Yet, every creature’s weakness is the same. The eyes.
Suddenly, Helmut wielded his sword. Vis erupted from his core, propelling the strike.
He swung the sword horizontally with all his might!
-Crack!
It felt like cutting through stone. His grip ached.
There was no time to assess the situation as Helmut plummeted towards the ground.
‘I cut it right.’
The sensation in his hand was unmistakable.
-Aaaagh!
One head screamed sharply, thrashing wildly. The commotion was so intense that the other head struggled to maintain balance, swaying side to side.
– Stop it! The brat is getting away!
– It hurts, I can’t see!
Thunk. Helmut landed on the ground, having evaded Naho.
Delayed pain surged again. Dust mixed with blood streamed from his wounds.
Helmut’s mind was astonishingly clear. Fully focused, it was as if he had ingested a stimulant.
