Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 19 (Part 1):
Helmut did not overestimate himself. He had seized the opportunity created by Naho, but now that opportunity was spent.
After all, his sword could not cut through Naho’s sturdy body. Even the strike a moment ago had consumed a considerable amount of Vis.
The sword given by Darien was not blunt. However, it required a massive amount of Vis to penetrate Naho’s magic.
‘I’ll make my escape now.’
Helmut moved his legs. But soon, a terrible event unfolded.
-Damn it. Stupid head!
Crunch!
Following the terrifying noise, there was a sound of thick and chewy flesh being bitten.
Helmut, who was running, suddenly looked back.
One head was swallowing another that had lost its eyes. It was a sight so grotesque it sent shivers down the spine.
Naho’s remaining head, having attacked the other side left defenseless, swallowed its long-time sibling down its throat.
Naho’s body swelled up as much as the head’s volume before settling down.
From the severed section, dark red blood and magic surged. The wound was healing quickly.
– Now that the useless part is gone.
Naho’s eyes turned towards Helmut. The gaze was blazing with venom and fury.
Naho had become a snake with just one head. A unified flesh with no division!
-I’ll melt you in my belly along with my head!
The enraged snake launched its body as if exploding. It was as fast as if it had thousands of legs, closing the distance Helmut had created in an instant.
Helmut reached for his sword. If he could perfectly turn around, he would counterattack.
However, just as he was about to dodge, he was struck head-on by the accelerating head.
Bang! The tremendous impact felt like colliding with a rock, paralyzing his mind.
Helmut was flung through the air like a piece of paper.
‘This place… … .’
He regained consciousness on top of a tree lush with leaves, fortunately not having lost his sword.
Blood poured out of his mouth.
Helmut checked his condition. Pain surged throughout his body without a specific location.
‘Did I break a rib?’
It seemed like several bones were out of place. His insides were a mess.
Helmut spat out all the blood in his mouth. His head was ringing. It was only thanks to the Vis he instinctively summoned to protect his body that he didn’t die.
‘Where’s Naho?’
If Naho had followed up immediately, he would have been dead without question.
He felt the magic. The beast was nearby.
Helmut only moved his head to locate it. He found Naho’s shadow cast towards him immediately.
They were only about fifty paces apart. A massive snake was visible through the leaves, its head raised high, emitting a sinister magic and surveying its surroundings. The area around it was already devastated.
Helmut’s figure was narrowly hidden by the branches above him.
If it had been the original Naho, it would have found him immediately, but it seemed to be impaired with only one head left.
The beast was swaying, shaking its head from side to side.
‘his senses must be confused.’
Having lived with two heads, it would need time to adjust to just one.
‘I need to escape from here.’
Helmut mustered strength into his throbbing body. The Vis, which had nearly depleted, was slowly replenishing. The magic-filled atmosphere of the forest aided his recovery.
His body, which seemed unable to move at all, creaked into action.
But then.
-Grroooar! You rat-like creature! Where are you hiding?
A wave of magic roared like a strong wind.
The aftermath shook the tree Helmut was in, threatening to topple it.
Helmut lost his balance and fell downwards.
Thud!
His teeth clashed hard against each other. Sparks flew before his eyes. The pain was breath-taking.
“Ugh!”
It was a small groan. But it was enough. The tall head moved immediately.
The sinister snake laughed sharply.
-There you are!
Grrrrr. The snake moved along with the vibration. It slithered towards him with a speed that surged like a wave.
Absolute death was approaching, like the scythe of the Grim Reaper. There was no way to counter it.
‘I can’t die like this!’
A desperate spirit lifted his body. Helmut’s eyes filled with determination.
Boom! Helmut’s eyes widened. Accompanied by a heavy sound, something massive fell, blocking his view.
Helmut miraculously saw a white leopard that appeared. Its white fur gleamed with magic.
“Elaga!”
-You’ve done well. Leave the rest to me.
A growling voice mixed with heavy breathing was heard.
Realizing the turn of events, she ran, crossing the boundary of her territory.
Upon finding Helmut lying down and smelling blood, she knew it was too late.
But it wasn’t completely too late. Elaga glanced back.
-You go.
“I’ll stay too.”
Before Helmut could say he would fight, Elaga yelled.
-Hurry!
Naho’s eyes flashed. Elaga’s approach had gone unnoticed, and a murderous intent exploded from the beast’s entire body.
In an imperfect state. Normally, Naho would have avoided a fight, but the pain he endured had blown away his reason.
A snake, venomous for having its prey snatched away.
