Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 19 (Part 2):
“Elaga, I…”
Helmut hesitated. But Elaga’s back was as solid as a cliff.
Before facing death, like Darien, no other words were allowed.
‘I’d only be a burden as I am.’
He had always been taught to think rationally. Helmut clenched his teeth.
“Thank you for everything.”
Would there be a day when they meet again? If the farewell with Darien was eternal, perhaps this too, might be.
It was impossible to be indifferent to a predetermined farewell. Elaga had been a companion for a long time. A warm current spread in his chest.
Helmut turned his back. He forced his glued feet to start moving.
Only if he disappeared could Elaga fight with ease.
-This stinking white cat! Daring to enter my territory?
-Your ugly head has become somewhat tolerable with just one left.
-You’ve always been an annoyance. Today, we end this!
-Do you think you can manage with one head when you couldn’t with two? Let’s see you try!
Soon, the two rulers of their domains clashed. The magic of the two spread beyond the space, permeating their territories.
The fierce roar and the loud noise vibrated the air, destroying the surroundings.
The Forest of Roots, which had seemed peaceful until now, was engulfed in a noisy battle.
Helmut was moving away from that place.
With Vis nearly depleted and his body in ruins.
However, no monster would dare attack Helmut, marked by the scents of both Naho and Elaga.
Helmut smoothly entered Elaga’s territory. The ongoing battle between the two monsters caused a heavy vibration in the air.
The aftermath of the battle instinctively stimulated fear in the monsters, keeping them at bay.
Helmut sat on a rock, catching his breath. His body, battered enough to barely walk, now managed it with no difficulty.
An unbelievable recovery. Helmut knew that, despite having Vis, a human couldn’t possess such regenerative abilities.
‘The seed of darkness.’
At the moment Vis had nearly depleted to protect his body from the fall from the tree, Helmut felt something like a burning ember deep within him.
It was slowly growing, its size indeterminate.
More chilling than hot, it was a creepy power that seemed to freeze the blood.
With Vis gone, it was natural for the seed of darkness to become unbound.
The power that reached out in the absence of Vis seemed to mend the broken vessel.
It devoured the surrounding magic, regenerating damaged muscles and flesh. It felt like being forced to use a potent, harmful drug the more it was used.
If left unchecked, it would not only heal the body but also seek to dominate Helmut.
‘First, I need to recover Vis.’
Helmut grasped his sword, surrendering to the flow of power. The power of the sword, Vis. It was a gift from Darien.
“Hmm.”
Hours later, he sheathed his sword at his waist. The replenished Vis pressed down on the seed of darkness, filling him. A power he had grown accustomed to, now missing, felt incomplete.
Helmut clenched his fist and assessed his body condition.
“There’s no hindrance to movement.”
Not in perfect condition, but he felt about eighty percent recovered. It should improve as he went on.
“The important juncture has passed, so it should be fine.”
There was no time to delay. Although he had succeeded in suppressing the seed of darkness, having absorbed a bit of magic, it had grown larger than before.
Helmut felt a bit rushed.
“Now, the sacred barrier is the issue.”
Helmut reached into his pocket and pulled out a book. Though worn, it fortunately wasn’t too damaged to read.
Recalling Erugo’s words, he looked at the map. He hadn’t been there but had a rough idea of the location.
“Only passing through the barrier remains.”
Beyond the barrier was the outside. Hadn’t he been working hard for a long time for this? His heart already fluttered in anticipation.
Outside the Forest of Roots, the human world. What kind of place was it? Would his mother remember him? He couldn’t imagine any of it.
Packing his belongings, Helmut glanced back towards Naho’s territory.
Elaga felt like a powerful being, strangely reassuring.
But he couldn’t help feeling anxious.
‘Elaga should be able to defeat Naho.’
Naho, having lost a head, couldn’t be unharmed. And even in a sound state, Naho wouldn’t dare challenge Elaga.
Elaga would win. But that natural flow seemed yet unrealized.
‘The battle is dragging on.’
If Naho desperately struggled, it wouldn’t be easy for Elaga.
Nevertheless, it was Helmut who had made Naho like this.
No matter how strong the opponent, if a weakness is shown, it can be cut. If one remains focused, a counterattack is certainly possible.
Helmut reminded himself of this fact.
‘If Elaga swallows Naho’s core, his power will also massively increase.’
There was a positive aspect. Thinking this way lightened his heavy heart.
In the forest of roots, where the strong rule, Naho’s core would be a great gift to Elaga.
Of course, such power might be useless to a lazy leopard like Elaga.
“Goodbye.”
Muttering a farewell he had learned somewhere, Helmut packed his belongings and left Elaga’s territory.
Now, only the last task remained.
