Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 2 (Part 1):
Helmut remembers.
The warm touch that enveloped his face, the woman who shed tears with compassionate eyes.
She was a beautiful woman with long golden hair. Teardrops fell from her gentle blue eyes. The woman called out a name that she would never call again.
‘Helmut, Helmut!’
The child instinctively realized that it was his own name.
Soon, rough hands forcibly took him from his mother’s embrace. Heart-wrenching screams pierced his eardrums.
Before being dropped into an unfamiliar place, the child engraved his name in his mind.
When he could pronounce his name properly with his tongue, he would point to himself without forgetting.
“I am Helmut.”
Elaga, a leopard with intelligence who has lived for a long time, asked a question as if she were absurd.
– Arrogant kid. Do you want your prey to call your name?
“It’s Helmut.”
With a determined face, the child repeated stubbornly.
“Why didn’t I eat that thing after bringing it here?”
Elaga growled irritably, sensing that something was amiss.
Without showing any fear, the child stared intently at the big leopard that had only revealed her fangs in front of him.
It’s the leopard that looked after him by giving him food and a warm place to sleep and cared for all this time. Even when she growled, he didn’t become frightened.
Elaga roared.
-Kaaaaaaaaaa!
And then, a moment later, he reluctantly said.
– You can’t eat this, human.
“Helmut.”
– Got it! Yes, your name. Helmut.
The child looked at her with a somehow satisfied expression.
*
Helmut was a peculiar child.
Influenced by the darkness inside him, he awakened his intellect early on and developed his body faster than an ordinary human child.
The unusually mature Helmut didn’t cry loudly or whine.
With jet-black eyes and a contrasting white face, he was just as handsome as a girl.
Perhaps recognizing the one who provided him with food, Helmut strangely felt attached to the threatening, giant leopard from the beginning and followed him around obediently.
Whether she observed his surroundings while pouncing or played around, when he got sleepy, he didn’t care whether Elaga threatened or spoke to him, and he slept clinging to her fur. Elaga chuckled.
– You adapt surprisingly well, don’t you?
Perhaps he was born with such a personality.
– Well, it’s good that you don’t cry annoyingly.
Elaga thought comfortably. Among the monsters she only dealt with annoying creatures with sharp eyes, the tiny and fragile human child seemed somewhat cute.
‘He’s a bit of a hassle, but he’s cute.’
Watching the little one’s actions with a small smile on his lips, it felt a pleasant satisfaction. When the one who used to crawl on the floor suddenly started running, it also felt a sense of pride.
However, from the moment Helmut’s mouth opened, Elaga realized that the little one who had been a bit of a hassle was actually very annoying.
It was convenient to throw food to him, and when he was sleepy, he slept. But the growing Helmut, who was growing up healthy, didn’t seek rare affection or love from Elaga, but he wanted something else.
Helmut was curious about many things. He started asking questions whenever he was curious about something. The questions were endless. For example…
“Why does Elaga have so much fur?”
One day, Helmut, who used to curl up in the cold at night, asked while stroking Elaga’s white fur.
Elaga proudly showed off her carefully groomed fur every day and replied.
– Because I’m a leopard.
“Why do leopards have so much fur?”
– To preserve body temperature.
“Then why I don’t have fur? It’s cold.”
– Because you’re a human.
“Why don’t humans have fur?”
– How should I know that? Stop asking annoying questions!
