Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 23 (Part 2):
“Hey, hurry up and wash. I’m cold.”
Finn, having finished washing first, complained. Helmut followed him to the water and washed the dirt and sand from his face and hair.
Helmut returned with Finn, who was now silent with a shocked expression.
Everyone stared. They were all waking up and preparing to leave.
“Who is that?”
“Is that the corpse-like guy from yesterday?”
“Can washing up change a person so much?”
“You couldn’t look like that even if you washed for a hundred days, man!”
“Why are you starting a fight again? He looks so refined. A noble?”
Helmut, with his face clean and flawless, looked so noble that his old travel clothes seemed shabby.
His delicate features and dark, mysterious eyes stood out. His expressionless face gave off a mystical aura.
Having lost a lot of muscle over the past few days, his body had become slender.
Helmut, looking out of place in the forest, seemed more like the heir to a noble family than a swordsman.
Helmut quietly returned to his spot and inspected his sword.
“Are you, by any chance, a noble?”
Finn, who had been joking around until then, asked somewhat politely.
Helmut stopped polishing his sword.
Darien had mentioned that he might be of noble birth. Nobility, the ruling class of humans.
But mercenaries were mostly commoners. Without proof of his status, that fact was irrelevant.
Helmut evaded the question.
“I don’t know. I told you I don’t remember.”
“What does it matter what his status is? Right now, he’s just a guest of our mercenary group!”
Tanya, who had approached unnoticed, placed a hand on Helmut’s shoulder. He greeted her, his senses gradually returning.
“Did you sleep well, Tanya?”
“Yes, did you sleep well? You’re looking much better. It’s nice to see you looking so handsome.”
“Look at how polite she becomes when someone’s good-looking.”
Snap! Finn, complaining for no reason, clutched his head and yelled.
“Ahh!”
“Shut up and go help with the preparations to leave.”
Tanya, having suddenly turned friendly again, handed Helmut some clothes.
“You need to recover quickly. You looked so destitute, I brought some spare clothes.”
The three sets of clothes were all different sizes, all too large for Helmut.
But for him, it was a luxury. He had lived on less than this, in extreme poverty.
“Are you feeling better than yesterday?”
“Yes, I’m improving.”
“We should reach the village in three days. Hang in there until then. We’ll see a doctor.”
“Alright.”
“If you need to pack anything, do it now. We’re on our way to a client and will be leaving soon.”
“Yes, Tanya.”
Tanya looked at Helmut, responding dutifully, with fondness.
After she ran her hand through Helmut’s hair, she waved and left.
About 30 minutes later, the group departed.
“Are you sure you’re okay? How about riding in the carriage? It’s quite fast, and it might be hard to keep up.”
“I think walking will help loosen up my body.”
Normally, they would ride horses, but they had chosen to walk through the forest path. Everyone here was a mercenary with strong legs.
The carriage was just a small cart with cargo. It was more comfortable to walk than to sit crammed among the luggage.
He needed to recover, but to resume training, he had to start moving.
Heeheehee!
Helmut walked beside the brown pack horse. It was the first time he had seen an animal that wasn’t a beast. To think such gentle creatures existed!
It was a series of novelties. Monsters became docile in front of Elaga, but their nature was different.
When he touched its nose, the horse seemed to enjoy it, puffing out its breath. It seemed not to have the instinct to sense the dark seed in Helmut.
“Do you like horses?”
“Ah, it seems so.”
‘If he likes pack horses, he’s probably not a noble.’
Finn looked at Helmut with mixed feelings. Unintentionally, he had been keeping an eye on Helmut’s every move.
He didn’t act prideful or superior, but his appearance and gaze were extraordinary.
He didn’t feel like a common boy raised in a village.
‘Something trained? Restrained? That kind of feeling.’
He wondered why Helmut had been lying there, but he said he didn’t remember, and Tanya didn’t seem curious.
‘Ah, what’s the use of thinking about it.’
Deciding to give up, Finn looked at Helmut and saw him staggering.
“Hey, Helmut! What’s wrong?”
His complexion turned pale. Sweat beaded on his forehead.
“What’s going on? Are you having a seizure? Do you have a chronic illness?”
