Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 28 (Part 1):
“Hey, hey, come on over.”
As he was about to return with a bucket full of water, someone suddenly popped up from behind.
‘Kelop!’
Seemingly with determination, four people blocked the path tightly. Finn, who was about to turn back with a frown, suddenly felt his nape seized.
‘How can he be so strong!’
Kelop was known not for his exceptional swordsmanship but for his innate strength. His brother, on the other hand, was both an excellent swordsman and strong.
Kelop, fitting for a rank 3 mercenary, realized the atmosphere had turned. It was the perfect time since no one would care if he picked a fight with rank 4 mercenaries.
“Look, buddy, I might have been a bit harsh before, right?”
“It’s all good, you weren’t.”
Finn gasped for air as he was suddenly hit in the back. It felt like he was struck down with a blunt weapon.
Moaning in pain and holding back tears, Kelop, who had casually thrown an arm around Finn, asked,
“Hey, hey, your friend. Have you ever bathed together with that bastard? You’re friends, so you must have, right?”
“We, we haven’t.”
Finn replied with a face pale as death.
They had different waking times. Finn was the type to sleep in and then sluggishly head out to wash in the morning, whereas Helmut would wash quickly when no one was around at dawn.
“Really? Then you wouldn’t know. Don’t you wonder if that pretty boy is really a girl or a boy? You’re curious too, right?”
“Not… curious, ah!”
Finn grimaced in pain. Kelop had twisted his shoulder with his large hand as if forcing it.
“Oops, my bad! I accidentally put too much strength! So, you’re curious too, right?”
A bruise would surely form there.
“Shall we find out then?”
Someone appeared before the grinning Kelop. It was Helmut, who had come out of the water late. He put down his water bucket, having understood the situation.
‘To capture Finn first and block the retreat.’
Helmut had caught on. This wasn’t a targeting of Finn; the target was himself.
His black eyes flashed coldly. Running away was easy. It wasn’t exactly about loyalty, but he had no intention of fleeing and leaving Finn behind.
‘Thanks to training every night, my Vis has recovered a lot.’
It was an opportunity to test his skills. It was a bit disappointing to face a rank 3 mercenary with a broken arm and three rank 4 henchmen.
Kelop shouted excitedly,
“Go grab that bastard! Let’s strip his pants!”
‘In front of my friend, even if you strip my pants, could you still look down on me?’
Finn was shivering in his grasp, a fitting reaction.
That impassive face turning red and shedding tears of frustration would be a delight.
‘A mercenary should have at least one unforgettable memory! Be thankful to me!’
Three boys from the Tariq mercenary Corps, all fourth-rank mercenaries, surrounded Helmut.
Their faces filled with mockery did not seem forced.
It was rare to trample on someone with a strong backer. The pleasure was immense.
“Come on, come on, hurry up.”
Just as one of them was about to touch Helmut,
“What is this?”
A woman’s voice pierced coldly. The owner of the voice, Tanya, stepped out from the shadows.
‘Damn it!’
Kelop’s excitement cooled instantly. He quickly released Finn. The three boys hesitated and stepped back from Helmut.
Tanya’s face seemed calm, but anger was evident in her eyes.
“I was asking why members of the Tariq Mercenary Corps are messing with our fourth-rank mercenaries from the Pace Mercenary Corps.”
The boys from the Tariq Mercenary Corps looked at Kelop in confusion. Kelop shrugged and said,
“Well, we were just having a chat.”
“I heard quite clearly, someone mentioned stripping pants?”
“No, well, it’s just how men share friendship among themselves. You, as a woman, might not understand.”
Kelop smiled slickly. Tanya called out, ignoring him,
“Come here. Finn, Helmut.”
Finn quickly hid behind Tanya, and Helmut walked over, his expression cold as ice.
To Helmut, Tanya’s arrival was as unwelcome as Kelop’s.
He had just reached for his sword. Just pulling it out would have been enough.
‘I could have cut them all down.’
A boiling rage cooled down forcibly. Helmut calmed himself quickly.
‘There will be other chances.’
Kelop thought the same. And Tanya had seen through Kelop’s thoughts.
“To the fourth-rank mercenaries of the Tariq Mercenary Corps.”
Kelop’s facial muscles twitched.
“I was originally… a rank 3 mercenary.”
“But now you’re employed as a rank 4. Am I wrong?”
Rank could decrease if one’s skills deteriorated. And even across different mercenary corps, a fourth-rank could not act recklessly towards a third-rank. It would be a cause for conflict. Kelop would be in trouble.
‘If you cause trouble, this time you’re out of the mercenary corps for good!’
His brother’s voice echoed loudly in his head. Kelop gritted his teeth.
‘Lucky bitch, having a good brother!’
Despite himself being in the Tariq mercenary corps thanks to his brother, Kelop inwardly cursed.
There’s no way this woman had the skills of a third-rank mercenary. If he were in good shape, he could have floored her in five minutes and then had a great time after.
While making all sorts of vile plans in his head, Kelop forced a laugh.
“Alright, let’s say you’re right. My apologies.”
“Don’t let something like this happen again. Next time, it won’t end with words.”
Tanya issued a cold warning. The eyes of Miles, not just hers, were sharp. Not only her but the client was aware of conflicts among fourth-rank mercenaries.
Though it was a conflict between two mercenary corps, they kept neutral, not intervening. But they knew if a dispute arose, they would support the Pace mercenary corps side.
