Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 300 (Part 1):
The temple’s movements were swift.
By the time the two archmages Heike and Antiol sensed something was amiss, it was already too late.
Heike, who had moved near the southern part of the sacred barrier, soon felt a familiar energy approaching the barrier.
The moment she confirmed their presence with her own eyes, Heike inwardly cursed.
‘Damn it.’
It was impossible for all six high priests to leave the temple at once. For three high priests to be in one place was already a rare occurrence. However, the exact three they had requested—Levina, Agato, and Baolo—were now approaching the sacred barrier.
‘Levina, Agato, and even Paolo.’
One of the temple’s duties was to maintain the sacred barrier. They hadn’t completely ruled out the possibility that the temple would send someone to interfere.
But that was only the worst-case scenario.
‘And now that possibility has become reality.’
When they make contact with the sacred barrier, the Adamantium suppressing the sacred power in four directions will shatter like glass.
She had already sent a signal to Antiol. Until he arrives, she must stall them to buy time.
Though her heart was anxiously burning up, Heike calmly racked her brain. At times like this, one must remain composed.
She carefully observed those who had come from the temple.
‘Their forces are impressive. They must consider this matter important.’
While the presence of holy knights isn’t particularly significant when three high priests are gathered, there were even holy knights positioned around them.
No matter how powerful an archmage is, they are not beings who can exert absolute force.
The reason Heike and Antiol were able to survive even after being publicly named by the temple was partly because they didn’t directly confront the temple.
If they concealed themselves, it was nearly impossible for the temple to track them.
But now, a clash was unavoidable.
‘I must stop them from reaching the barrier!’
But how?
Rather than answering that question, Heike revealed herself to them. The clash would begin with a face-to-face encounter.
“You!”
The holy knights leading and guarding the high priests raised their swords at the beautiful silver-haired female mage who suddenly appeared.
They seemed to sense something sinister in Heike’s appearance.
Levina, who had been sensing magical power from the surrounding atmosphere, curled up the corners of her mouth. It was her characteristic benevolent smile.
“So you are… the Aarchmage Heike. I see Antiol didn’t come with you?”
Antiol was likely on his way.
However, unlike Heike, Antiol wasn’t staking his life on this matter.
No matter how obsessed with research an archmage might be, there’s no guarantee they would risk their life confronting the temple.
But Heike was different. The only blood relative she absolutely had to protect was right there inside that sacred barrier!
‘The first to strike wins!’
Without replying, Heike abruptly cast a spell.
“Rage of the Earth!”
Rumble!
Suddenly, an earthquake shook the ground.
Even the holy knights who had been waiting for the slightest attack signal lost their balance and staggered.
Dust filled the air. Heike launched another attack spell.
“Dance of the Wind!”
Swirling dust enveloped the surroundings.
A hazy, earthy fog.
Unless intended to suffocate, it’s hard to consider this a direct magical attack.
Coughing sounds leaked from the holy knights sprawled on the ground.
At that moment, High Priest Agato’s hand glowed white. The raging earth gradually settled under his holy power.
The same went for the dust. Since magic had caused this natural phenomenon, pushing back the magical power with holy power naturally dissipated the spell’s effect.
Agato spoke with a solemn face.
“That witch is trying to buy time.”
“Why? Does the state of the sacred barrier mean something to them? I don’t sense any dark magic, so what benefit would mages gain from weakening the sacred barrier?”
High Priest Paolo, who had been wearing an indifferent expression until now, removed the hand covering his mouth and continued.
A thought suddenly struck High Priest Agato, furrowing his brow.
‘Could there be someone inside?’
Four years ago, they had banished Helmut, a carrier of the Dark Seed from the Renosa ducal family.
There was a good chance he was still alive within the Forest of Roots.
But how could he be connected to the archmages? Helmut was a swordsman after all.
Leaving the confused Agato behind, Levina shook her head.
“Whatever it means, restoring the sacred barrier will solve the issue. But the barrier is over there, and she’s being a nuisance. Shall we split up? After all, one high priest is enough to make contact with the barrier.”
Agato nodded.
“Levina, you should look for an opening and make contact with the barrier. We’ll handle her.”
Heike wasn’t engaging directly but was keeping her distance, fighting cautiously. If they tried to capture her, she’d slip away like a slippery eel.
Rather than waste time playing into her hands, it was better to achieve their objective. A practical solution.
Levina nodded.
“Let’s do that.”
