Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 300 (Part 2):
Magic isn’t exclusive to mages. Although the nature of the power is different, it’s possible to achieve similar effects with holy magic.
In other words, a high priest was akin to an archmage.
High Priest Levina left an illusory doppelganger beside the other two high priests and cast an invisibility spell.
Though their vision was obscured, Heike likely couldn’t see their situation properly either. She was too busy pouring out spells.
Levina had made up her mind.
‘No matter the chaos that unfolds here, I’m heading for the sacred barrier.’
It would be enough to make that witch pay the price afterward.
Boom! Crash!
Heike toppled trees and shook the ground, blocking and demolishing the high priests’ path.
But because of this, she didn’t have the capacity to carefully observe the high priests’ condition.
If she had paid just a little more attention, she would have noticed Levina’s absence.
But to Heike, the high priests were just stubborn and old-fashioned individuals.
She had expected such people wouldn’t choose to turn back when faced with a public duty, but that expectation was off the mark.
‘Something’s not right.’
At some point, Heike stopped her attack and turned her head towards the sacred barrier.
And she saw her. A woman standing right in front of the barrier.
Heike knew who she was.
High Priest Levina!
‘A high priest moved secretly without the escort of holy knights?’
It felt like her blood was turning ice-cold. She had to stop her.
She launched herself towards Levina, unleashing her first direct attack spell.
“Blades of Wind!”
But her spell aimed at Levina’s back was dispersed in mid-air by the holy power of the other two high priests before it could reach its target.
High Priest Agato shouted with a stern expression.
“How dare you attack a high priest, such insolence! Heike, enemy of the temple. I shall take your life here today!”
Levina didn’t look back. She had entered the sacred barrier and was now safe from magical attacks.
Just one step away from her goal. Levina, tinged with a translucent light inside the sacred barrier, lowered her eyes.
‘This is the power of Lumen.’
A torrent of immense holy power. Within it, she, as a high priest, felt freedom and deep repose. It was even sweet.
A place as comfortable as a mother’s womb.
Soon, an enormous power began to spread from Levina’s body.
A white light softly diffused through the opaque barrier. It took but an instant for her power to reach the entire sacred barrier.
Somewhere, it seemed like the sound of solid metal shattering could be heard.
The Adamantium that had been suppressing the cores of the four parts of the barriers crumbled into pieces.
Heike too sensed the change occurring in the sacred barrier instinctively. Their plan was crumbling away.
‘Alea!’
Even as she screamed inwardly, Heike swallowed that name. Even in this moment, she worried that the temple might learn of Alea’s existence.
Distracted, she failed to notice the holy knight approaching from behind. Just as he was about to thrust his sword into Heike,
Bang!
A tremendous impact struck the armor. The holy knight flew through the air like a rock.
Beside Heike stood a mage with a long white beard and a monocle.
Unlike usual, his face showed not a trace of composure.
“Fortunately, I’m not too late.”
It was Antiol.
He had already grasped the current situation upon arrival. However, Heike shook her head.
“We’re too late. They’ve already restored the barrier. Alea probably couldn’t escape.”
If she had escaped, she would have contacted Heike immediately.
The lack of contact means that the barrier was restored before Alea and her companions could escape.
If they collide with the sacred barrier from that high altitude, the mages would instantly lose their magical power, so even Alea would be in danger.
“They’ll notice the change before trying to cross the barrier, so they’ll likely pull back. Helmut can’t leave the Forest of Roots, but the others should be able to escape by other means, so don’t worry too much. I’m disappointed too. But you did what you could. Let’s withdraw now.”
However, Heike didn’t budge. Magical power rose from her body defensively.
In her mind, the worst-case scenario played out—Alea falling from the sky.
She looked at Antiol with vacant eyes. Antiol frowned as he surveyed the direction where the temple forces were.
Now that they had achieved their goal, the high priests and holy knights would turn their attention to them, the temple’s wanted criminals. They needed to flee this place quickly.
Antiol grabbed her shoulder.
“Alea wouldn’t want you to die here either. She’s a clever and exceptional mage. And that boy Helmut…”
Antiol furrowed his brow.
Helmut had already created a miracle. Could they expect a similar miracle this time too?
An inappropriate thought for an archmage. But Antiol couldn’t ignore that sense of expectation rising from within his heart.
Biting her lip, Heike spoke before Antiol could continue.
“I understand.”
The shock had faded, and reason had returned to her as well.
Antiol immediately cast a teleportation spell.
While teleportation magic is inherently high-level, it doesn’t take long for archmages like them to cast.
This magic was also the power that had kept them free from the temple’s pursuit.
A moment later, they vanished from that place as if their presence had been erased.
