Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 309 (Part 1):
Shortly after, they arrived at Sian’s house, passing through the village under curious eyes.
A massive, ancient tree occupied one side of the house like a pillar, its branches and leaves spreading out to cover the roof.
It was a house with a natural feel. A fitting landscape for the dwelling of a spirit mage.
“Oh, it’s Sian. The prodigal son has returned?”
A girl peeked her face through the door crack. The girl, just entering puberty, had a bold impression with sparkling eyes.
Her face resembled Sian’s, yet was different.
Sian, unlike his usual self, responded firmly to his sister whom he hadn’t seen in a long time.
“Go inside, Siena.”
“Tch, whatever.”
However, glancing at her parents’ expressions, they seemed tense. Moreover, the group accompanying Sian looked unusual.
She quickly closed the door and went inside. Asuka lightly tapped Sian’s shoulder.
“Sian, didn’t you say you had two siblings?”
“Yeah, one younger sister and one younger brother. But my younger brother isn’t here because he entered Greta Academy this year.”
Among Baden’s academies, Greta was the best for magic.
Due to their unique nature, everyone in Sian’s family, being spirit mages, was a Greta Academy graduate.
Terra spoke up.
“The house is cramped, so it would be better to talk in the yard.”
In the yard, there was a large outdoor table and several log chairs made from tree stumps.
Everyone went over and took their seats there. Elaga was still perched on Helmut’s shoulder.
“We should offer a meal to our rare guests, but I think the conversation should come first. The guests Sian brought are…far beyond our expectations.”
Although it was the innermost house in the village, they had attracted the villagers’ attention on their way here.
This wasn’t a conversation that should be overheard by others.
Terra muttered a spell. Her magic, contracted with the most powerful earth spirit, surpassed that of an archmage.
Rumble! The ground around them rose up.
As if suddenly growing from the earth, a massive wall three times the height of an adult man sprang up, enclosing them.
Igrelle exclaimed in admiration.
“Wow.”
Igrelle had ruled as a predator in the Forest of Roots for a lifetime. Though she didn’t eat humans, she had considered them weak beings, but that perception was gradually changing.
Although it hadn’t been long since she left the Forest of Roots, every human she had met so far possessed skills that couldn’t be underestimated.
“No sound will penetrate this wall. Now, shall we begin our conversation?”
Terra’s eyes sparkled mysteriously.
*
Sian recounted his connection with Helmut and everything that had happened so far.
He was quite skilled in storytelling. Especially in downplaying unfavorable aspects and emphasizing the favorable ones.
Leaving the Forest of Roots twice was already extraordinary enough, but Helmut’s story of being abandoned by his mother twice was utterly heart-wrenching.
Meanwhile, Sian, who risked his life to enter the Forest of Roots to save his betrayed friend, was portrayed as a loyal, cool, and brave mage, causing the expressions of those around to change strangely.
It was clearly a true story, but somehow it felt uncomfortable to listen to.
Helmut’s expression gradually became peculiar as he listened to Sian describing him as if he were pitiful, and Charlotte’s expression grew increasingly stern.
In Sian’s words, Helmut was an innocent lamb who couldn’t be more pitiful, while the Temple and the Grand Duchy of Renosa were portrayed as the villains of the century.
“I see, so that’s what happened.”
Terra seemed accustomed to her son’s way of speaking, calmly accepting their story. Of course, this wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
“So you, as a son of Rodril, aided in the escape of not only a possessor of the Seed of Darkness but also two demonic beasts who are region rulers from the Forest of Roots. You’re saying that you actively cooperated in such an act that might endanger humanity, without a word to your parents. Am I wrong?”
“He’s never caused trouble in his life, but of all things, his first mischief had to be something like this.”
Azer, who didn’t know how to handle this kind of situation as a parent, spoke. It was clear that a simple scolding wouldn’t suffice.
The couple exchanged somber glances. It seemed as if a sudden storm had swept into their once peaceful lives.
Sian opened his mouth.
“Mother, I am Sian Rodril. I’ve never caused you any trouble, have I? Please trust my choice. I’ve been to the Forest of Roots, I’m friends with Helmut, and I’ve experienced these beings. I thought it over and made a choice. And I believe my choice was right.”
Alea gave him a dubious look, as if asking, ‘When did you ever think it over?’
She remembered both Asuka and Sian nodding fiercely in agreement right from the start, reacting passionately without much deliberation.
‘Though I suppose magic is about excluding emotions. A highly emotional person wouldn’t make a great mage.’
Sian is the second-best student in the magic department. His outstanding grades weren’t simply because he was a spirit mage; they reflected his talent as a true mage.
“Then let’s ask the person in question. Helmut, can you live up to Sian’s trust in you?”
