Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 312 (Part 2):
Despite there being no servants, life at Sian’s house was as comfortable and lacking in nothing as that of a noble household.
If you saw objects moving on their own, it was thanks to the spirits.
In a place where the energy of nature was strong, spirits could exert physical force without showing themselves.
Of course, it might scare those unfamiliar with the sight.
Helmut, who woke up at dawn, swung his sword in the spacious clearing near the mountain, then had breakfast.
Alea, seemingly full of academic interest in spirit magic, spent the morning deep in conversation with Terra and Azer about the subject. It seemed she’d stay in that state for several days.
However, right after breakfast, she discreetly approached Helmut.
“They say the mountain range is full of spirits. Would you like to come with me?”
“Sure.”
Thus, the two of them went on a date. It was so secretive that no one interfered.
Meanwhile, Elaga, who had left Sian’s house, became a sensation in Greencana in just one day.
After all, in a village where wild animals and livestock were common, it was rare to see such an adorable, doll-like cat.
“Wow, what a pretty cat!”
“Where did it come from? Did the guests bring it?”
“Yeah, I saw it sitting on that black-haired guy’s shoulder.”
“Meow?”
The people of Greencana, especially the children, were very friendly toward Elaga.
They brought him eggs and chicken breasts, hoping to win his affection.
Elaga accepted their offerings, making cute meows in return. The children, delighted, lavished him with praise. It was a strange but pleasant feeling for him.
‘I don’t like it when they pet my head, though.’
When he was annoyed, he would simply leap up to the nearest tree. This was an experience he could only enjoy in the human world.
Sian, meanwhile, was busy unpacking the luggage sent from the academy, which was piled up in his room.
His younger sister, Siena, had entered adolescence and was constantly picking fights with him. She had shown some accomplishment in spirit magic and seemed eager to test her skills against Sian.
Sian began to ponder how to give her a proper scolding. Consequently, his mind drifted away from Asuka and Charlotte.
Like Helmut, who had been training with his sword since morning, Asuka and Charlotte naturally ended up spending time together. After spending time together in the Forest of Roots, they had grown much closer.
Whereas before, they would only greet each other briefly before parting ways, they now shared moments of deeper connection.
After breakfast, Asuka, who had swung his sword to help digest the meal, flopped down with a sigh and spoke.
“Being here reminds me of the old days.”
“The old days?”
Asuka’s eyes narrowed, as if recalling something.
“Yeah, back when it was just me and my mom… We lived in a small village like this. My mom wasn’t a spirit mage, so she had to do everything by hand, which must have been hard for her. But I was young, so I didn’t have any hardships. Those were good times. I suppose we would’ve been considered poor, but it was comfortable and free.”
There was a peculiar tone to his words. For Charlotte, who believed Asuka was a commoner, this remark was a little puzzling. Was he implying that things were no longer peaceful or free?
‘What happened to his father?’
Charlotte suddenly felt curious about Asuka’s father, but she swallowed the question.
Living alone with his mother in the past meant that things were different now.
Asuka might have gotten into trouble often, but he wasn’t irresponsible. If he wasn’t looking after his mother, it meant she no longer needed his care.
“Mother seems more satisfied with her current life. It would’ve been nice if I could be like her, but it really doesn’t suit my personality.”
Then, with a look of frustration, Asuka added,
“I’m not fond of that bastard who calls himself my father, either.”
Charlotte silently observed him. Even someone as seemingly simple and straightforward as Asuka had his own story.
His personality and swordsmanship weren’t ordinary, after all. She spoke gently, offering some comfort.
“As you know, having family doesn’t mean you always get along.”
Asuka’s expression softened.
“I suppose you’re right. I guess I’ve been saying useless things. You’ve probably had it much harder than me.”
Suddenly, Charlotte chuckled softly.
“Why are you laughing?”
“It’s just… hearing that from you, Senior Asuka, is a bit strange. I didn’t think you were the type to say such things.”
Asuka furrowed his brows.
“What are you talking about? What do you think I am?”
“Well, a skilled senior who’s hot-tempered and does whatever he wants?”
“Can’t deny that.”
Before long, both of them were smiling. After a brief conversation, they seemed to have grown even more comfortable with each other.
