Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 313 (Part 2):
Helmut, who had come running at Siena’s scream, saw the whole scene and wore a somewhat bitter expression.
After all, he was the one responsible for managing Elaga. Though he had caused trouble, it wasn’t anything too serious.
Sian waved at him, wearing a somewhat mysterious smile.
“Hey, Helmut, how was your date?”
Helmut denied it immediately.
“It wasn’t a date.”
“Oh really? You know what? This nearby forest is crawling with spirits. As a spirit mage, I can roughly tell what’s happening around here. Of course, I didn’t intentionally try to find out. I just happened to hear that you and Alea walked into the forest together. They say the atmosphere was really good? If that’s not a date, what is it?”
“It wasn’t a date. The spirits must have lied to you.”
“Wow, Helmut. Spirits don’t lie. You’re the one who’s gotten good at lying so casually.”
“I’m leaving now.”
Unfavorable conversations are best avoided. Helmut turned around as if there was nothing more to say. However, at that moment,
“Helmut, wait a moment.”
Terra, who had been standing there, stopped him.
“What is it?”
“Perfect timing. There’s somewhere I’d like you to go with me.”
She gave Sian a quick glance, and Sian, catching on quickly, went inside and closed the door. Click. Only then did she speak.
“Come with me to meet Rodril’s earth spirit that I have a contract with.”
She added with a smile.
“My spirit wishes to see you.”
Helmut hesitated for a moment. He had something akin to trauma about being called somewhere alone.
Wounds inflicted by those you trusted last for a very long time. Even if it was his friend Sian’s mother, he couldn’t completely let go of his wariness.
But the Helmut then and the Helmut now were different. Back then, Helmut had been in a weakened state, unable to protect himself.
If his body had been whole at that time, Helmut would have broken through that trap and escaped.
“It’s not far from here. If you don’t trust me, you can bring your sword. And if anything happens, your guardian would surely sense the disturbance. What are you worried about?”
Terra spoke in a gentle tone. She too understood what Helmut had experienced.
“No, let’s go.”
Helmut obediently followed her. He always carried his sword at his waist anyway.
Terra led the way along a small path that extended behind Sian’s house, rather than going through the village.
After walking for nearly ten minutes, Helmut suddenly felt a strange sensation. His vision brightened and the air suddenly became clearer.
It was like suddenly stepping through a door into a different space. A dizziness where his senses twisted and his surroundings became blurry.
And in the next moment, Helmut realized. That he had entered someone’s domain.
His hand instinctively went to his waist. Helmut barely suppressed the urge to draw and swing his sword.
Terra met his gaze steadily and whispered.
“This is the spirit’s domain. It might be uncomfortable, but please bear with it for a moment.”
Her soft voice helped ease the tension. Helmut blinked.
The creeping sensation that had overtaken him disappeared, and his surroundings came into focus.
A clearing in the forest. Light was streaming down through the dense leaves. An ethereal, dreamlike light. That light shone down from the sky onto a large stone monolith in the center of the clearing.
A pattern engraved in the center of that stone. Helmut immediately recognized the faintly glowing symbol as the character representing the earth spirit.
“The spirit wanted to see you. It seems to have something to say. Given that it wanted to call you here, it must have something to tell only you, without even letting me know.”
“What… should I do?”
Helmut looked down at the monolith with its softly swirling light. Since spirits weren’t beings of the material world, they would be different from demonic beasts like Elaga. However, this immense power… The most powerful living being Helmut had seen was Elaga.
But that didn’t mean he hadn’t encountered beings that surpassed him.
‘Lumen was like that.’
They said the sacred barrier was Lumen himself. It was similar to the sensation he had felt from Lumen.
This earth spirit was perhaps a divine being similar to Lumen. Wasn’t it said to be the most powerful spirit on earth?
“Place your hand on the monolith . Then it will speak to you.”
Terra wore a slightly worried expression. Even she had never brought someone who wasn’t a spirit mage here before.
It was a situation she had never experienced before – the earth spirit taking the initiative to call someone like this.
Spirits usually only communicate with spirit mages.
Therefore, when they want to convey their will to someone, they do so through a spirit mage.
Calling someone to their domain like this and choosing to speak directly meant they intended to exclude the spirit mage who should normally mediate.
Even Terra couldn’t understand their intentions.
‘Why…’
But spirits are not beings with evil intentions.
Terra believed that the earth spirit would not harm Helmut.
And as long as she didn’t wish it, the earth spirit contracted to her couldn’t harm Helmut either.
Helmut reached out and placed his hand on the monolith . Then, all was quiet.
