Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 323 (Part 2):
Talon hadn’t overlooked the fact that Helmut, a very dangerous element, had slipped through the net all these years.
However, it was true that the matter had faded from attention. It had seemed like Helmut had been eliminated by Renosa.
‘If he’s resurfaced, what is he after?’
Revenge? Or something else…? Whatever it was, it would cause a significant event. The movements of the strong didn’t end with a mere breeze.
In any case, he had been hiding for years and was here now. Then where did he go?
Talon found the answer to that question after some time.
A depiction of Helmut and his companions visiting Fidelis lay before him. The details were chillingly accurate.
Even the most vigilant among them wouldn’t have imagined that they could be spotted and depicted in such a large city.
That was why the King of Veneta had no choice but to accept Black Hawk.
The extraordinary information network and the ability to compile it. Talon discovered from inside his room what Teresa Fidelis had learned through a face-to-face meeting.
‘A total of five. Sian Rodril, the heir of Rodril. Close friend of Helmut since their days at Greta Academy. Asuka, the top of the swordsmanship department. The same goes for him. As for the others… the mage can change appearances, so it must be Alea, the top of the magic department. And Charlotte, the grand duke’s daughter and the top of the swordsmanship department.’
Talon recalled what he had investigated about Asuka. He had done so because Asuka was Helmut’s friend, even before being Sian Rodril’s.
Asuka himself was difficult to gather information on due to limited interactions with his family.
High-born nobles typically interacted with other nobles and influential figures, which inevitably revealed their existence.
Asuka was an exception to that logic. Despite the fact that he actually wasn’t a commoner, he was like someone who had fallen from the sky.
Moreover, Asuka was perceptive, skilled at evading tracking, and moved alone. However, he couldn’t hide where he went during vacations.
Talon discovered Asuka’s true identity and held that information. Knowing only that he was not someone Black Hawk should touch.
In that sense, Helmut saving Asuka in the past was fortunate. If Asuka had been killed by Black Hawk back then, Black Hawk would have paid a steep price. The entire organization might have collapsed.
‘It’s fate. And how extraordinary it is that such remarkable individuals have gathered.’
They were formidable in terms of individual power but were also backed by forces that were not to be trifled with. The latter was even more troublesome than their personal strength.
These were the ones who had newly joined Greencana. They visited Fidelis, accomplished their goal, and left.
In the process, they must have contacted Teresa Fidelis.
‘Teresa Fidelis. A cunning yet inexperienced young lady. I wonder if the conversation went well.’
It needed to have gone well. The pride of Rodril wouldn’t borrow external power, but it was different if external power offered assistance on its own.
“Shouldn’t we track them down and make them pay?”
The head of the Fidelis branch urged Talon as he stepped out of the room.
These were the ones who had left his nephew half-crippled. Although money could heal with magic or herbs, the boy seemed half out of his mind.
If tears had been drawn from his kin, he needed to make the other party shed tears too.
The branch head was burning with vengeance.
Talon looked at him and coldly remarked,
“You’re blind, branch head. Your position will soon be replaced.”
“P-Pardon…?”
“Think carefully from the deputy’s position if you don’t want to lose even that.”
Leaving those words, Talon departed. The place he headed to was the royal palace of Veneta.
“I come to see His Majesty.”
Talon had met with the King just recently. Having just received a report from Teresa, the King greeted him calmly.
Fidelis and Black Hawk rarely interacted. Even while engaging in similar tasks.
The king didn’t try to unite them. It was hard for an esteemed noble family of mages and Black Hawk, who clawed their way up from the bottom, to join hands.
Though it could be considered inefficient, Fidelis and Black Hawk were unknowingly competing.
King Davis was an astute man, and he knew he couldn’t rely solely on Fidelis. A king who depended on his subjects wasn’t a true king.
Even though he acted as if he trusted Fidelis more, a kingly sense of balance always resided in a corner of his rational mind.
Black Hawk balanced the scale opposite to Fidelis. To a king without personal power, Black Hawk was a necessity.
Of course, it was true that the king’s scales leaned towards Fidelis.
It wasn’t because Fidelis had been more devoted in supporting his ascension to the throne. It was the weight of emotions that tipped the scales towards Fidelis.
Teresa Fidelis. The woman who aided Davis’s rise. A capable mage and the beautiful daughter of the Duke of Fidelis.
Rumors had circulated about her and Helmut during their time at Greta Academy.
Most were unrelated to reality. Talon didn’t believe those rumors to be true either.
But they could be used—to balance things.
The King of Veneta wasn’t reckless, and even if he knew, the weight of emotions would only sway him momentarily, not influence his decisions.
Talon spoke. Soon, his report flowed into the king’s ears.
How the king would take that report remained to be seen.
