Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 332 (Part 1):
The negotiations with the King of Veneta were left entirely to Terra. It was Greencana’s matter, after all.
The rest of the group had agreed not to intervene unless something serious happened.
But Alea couldn’t help but ask.
“How did you know I’m Heike’s granddaughter?”
Talon answered calmly.
“You disguised yourself as a man and hid your identity at the academy because someone was after you. It’s not easy to make enemies at such a young age, so it must be an inherited antagonistic relationship. Silver hair and purple eyes. A talented mage with striking features. Magic may not be absolute, but it is an inherited talent. Blood doesn’t lie. With some digging, it wasn’t hard to figure out.”
From someone who deals in buying and selling information, it wouldn’t make sense if they couldn’t figure out that much.
A sharp light crossed the purple eyes that stared at Talon. She didn’t like becoming someone’s weakness.
Especially in such an unexpected way.
Was it a problem that Teresa discovered she was a woman? Or was it problematic from the moment her existence was discovered?
She had thought Teresa couldn’t have reached that conclusion so quickly. The problem wasn’t Teresa.
There was a solution.
‘Should we wipe them all out?’
Though Veneta wasn’t known as a military power, the knights protecting the king weren’t to be taken lightly.
But she was confident. With Helmut and Elaga by her side, she could do it.
She could silence both the King of Veneta and Talon, ensuring no one could speak of this.
However, Terra had already taken her seat again, signaling her decision. Alea clenched her fists tightly.
‘Even if we silence these two, we probably can’t prevent that information from reaching the Temple.’
They weren’t careless enough to bring up such information without taking minimum precautions.
Terra couldn’t choose open war with the temple—not with Greencana to protect.
The King of Veneta seemed to understand that she couldn’t take extreme measures because of this.
But Terra hadn’t completely given up.
‘If I don’t like the king’s terms!’
She could retaliate in other ways. An earth spirit mage had many methods at her disposal!
However, when she saw the compensation the king offered, even those thoughts disappeared.
While it wasn’t a sum large enough to dent the national budget, it was comparable to the rewards given to high-ranking nobles for meritorious service.
‘He’s not trying to brush this off with just threats.’
Sincerity isn’t shown just through words, but through the size of the amount. It was quite a substantial compensation.
The king had his own idea of reasonable compensation.
The amount wasn’t small, and Terra realized he hadn’t intended to drive them away with mere pocket change.
Unlike Teresa, who had thought too lightly of Rodril, the king had prepared for other possibilities.
Terra glanced at the king and thought.
‘He’s not someone who takes losses easily.’
Even if Teresa made a mistake, he had prepared measures to deal with it.
Perhaps because he had struggled to ascend to the throne, he was meticulous about details. No matter how extraordinary Rodril might be, its power had rarely been displayed.
Groups tend to look down on individuals, and kings are usually overbearing, but his attitude wasn’t like that.
He wanted this issue resolved without further provoking Rodril.
Terra returned the document the king had handed her and said.
“Your Majesty, it seems Veneta has a bright future under your rule.”
After all, a king willing to engage in meaningful dialogue, especially with Greencana’s concerns, could only be a good thing.
The king, too, understood that Rodril had no desire for prolonged entanglements with Veneta.
“I’ll take that as a compliment. And I must admit, I was deeply impressed by the power you displayed.”
“If it impressed you, then I trust Rodril’s power will never again be exercised in Veneta. As a servant of the Earth Spirit, I wield power not meant for the human realm, nor for anyone’s greed or personal desires.”
The Earth Spirit was an entity comparable to Lumen.
But while Lumen had countless followers, the earth spirit had only one contractor.
Though there were limits to utilizing all that power as a human, its might was still imaginable.
However, that power could only be used when necessary.
If Terra misused that power, the Earth Spirit would break the contract and reduce her to an ordinary mage.
While it was usually difficult for a spirit to unilaterally break an established contract, the Earth Spirit was an entity free from such restrictions.
The king nodded.
“…I understand your position. I had hoped our discussions could be smoother and more pleasant, but alas, they were not.”
“As do I.”
“If you’re not planning to leave the palace immediately, would you give me a chance to make amends? As the host, I don’t wish for my guests to leave with unpleasant memories.”
Terra responded to this proposal more quickly than any other answer she had given.
“Gladly.”
