Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 332 (Part 2):
“So you were serious about wanting to live in the palace?”
Sian narrowed his eyes. After their final conversation, they were moved to guest quarters for receiving state visitors.
In other words, better accommodations than before. They said a farewell banquet would be prepared for them tomorrow.
While their visit had been unofficial until now, they said they would record it in official documents.
Terra’s face naturally lit up. From her perspective, it was a deal with no downsides. Although they had been challenged and received compensation for it, they had only gained things.
Terra shot a glance at Sian.
“If you’re not capable enough to let your mother live in luxury, why don’t you just stay quiet while your mother enjoys some extravagance?”
“Are you suggesting I should get a job as a royal mage somewhere?”
Sian felt wronged. It wasn’t that he couldn’t get a job due to lack of ability – his skills would be welcomed anywhere, he just had a temporary gap while helping his friend.
Moreover, Sian had more talent as a mage than anyone else in Rodril.
Since the Earth Spirit chooses the most talented mage among Rodril’s bloodline, he would become the next Earth Spirit contractor after Terra.
The succession wouldn’t necessarily wait until Terra’s death—it could happen at any time.
The timeline depended entirely on the Earth Spirit’s will. Besides, once contracted with the Earth Spirit, you couldn’t take any jobs elsewhere and had to stay in Greencana anyway.
His career path was practically predetermined.
Terra clicked her tongue.
“It would be better than being jobless and not earning any money like now. After graduating from Greta Academy no less… What a waste of tuition.”
“I was second in the magic department, you know? I was second from admission and received scholarships for all six years, so what waste of tuition? I only paid the admission fee.”
Sian pointed out the facts as if dumbfounded.
Though it stung a bit that he had always been second, thinking positively, there must have been someone who never managed to get above third place because of him.
Terra retorted as if unwilling to back down.
“But you still received an allowance, didn’t you?”
While he had received some financial support, mages rarely struggled economically, and Rodril was more than comfortable financially.
Sian went straight on the offensive.
“And how were your grades at Greta Academy, Mom?”
“…How could I remember something from so many years ago? Stop making noise and be quiet. I need to think about something.”
She blocked unfavorable conversations. It was a good tactic. Like the model student he was, Sian didn’t push further and just replied with dissatisfaction.
“Yes, yes.”
Watching this little drama unfold beside them, Helmut looked at Alea.
Alea had been furrowing her brow and seemed to be intensely thinking about something.
Probably something like ‘Plans for Black Hawk’s Destruction.’
Though Talon was capable, he had picked the wrong opponent.
Alea was the type who would definitely retaliate against those who crossed her, no matter how long it took.
“Do whatever you want with Black Hawk, but you’re not planning to act immediately, are you?”
Alea responded slowly.
“Hm? Ah, yes. Black Hawk… Didn’t you have something to discuss with that Talon guy?”
“Yes. And they’ll probably try to make contact.”
Helmut spoke in a low voice. When leaving the conference room earlier, he had made eye contact with Talon.
It was intentional on their part.
Helmut realized it. That Talon knew who he was. Talon moved his lips.
‘Night.’
Helmut understood. He meant to make contact tonight. It was fortunate, as he had something to say to him as well.
The king tried to make them stay longer, saying he wanted his guests to leave in good spirits.
Helmut didn’t think he was excluded from that decision.
‘Despite knowing who I am, he mentioned Alea instead.’
Even though Helmut would have been more useful as a target for blackmail.
Did they not know Helmut was of Renosa’s bloodline? That was possible.
But Talon’s silence about Helmut wasn’t for that reason.
‘A gesture of goodwill?’
Blackhawk seemingly wished to avoid antagonizing Helmut, and that’s why they offered him three pieces of information in the past as a gesture of goodwill.
This time too, they showed their intention not to touch Helmut, at least.
Of course, they had picked the wrong target. But Black Hawk didn’t know that targeting Alea was as dangerous as targeting Helmut himself.
‘Once they do, they’ll pay for it.’
Even Helmut couldn’t guess why Talon acted this way when four years ago, he had been nothing more than an exceptionally skilled swordsman for his age.
Though Talon must know that if Helmut hadn’t been idle, he would be stronger than he was four years ago.
Alea raised her eyebrows and asked.
“Are you telling me to stay out of it?”
“I’m not a child, Alea.”
It was frustrating enough that Elaga treated him as a weakling, but couldn’t this much be left to him? He had always handled conversations with Talon alone anyway.
Alea nodded.
“You’ll handle it?”
“Yes, I’ll tell you about it when it’s over.”
“Alright.”
Alea accepted readily, and their conversation ended there.
Now Helmut just had to wait. While doing what he always did. Sword training.
And as expected, late that night, someone approached Helmut as he was swinging his sword alone in the training ground.
