Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 336 (Part 2):
“You don’t necessarily have to find the answer right now. When you move, new paths might appear.”
From Talon’s encouragement, Helmut realized one thing.
“…Like the King of Veneta, you also want me to make a move.”
Obviously, neither of them wanted it for Helmut’s sake. Talon nodded.
“I won’t deny that it would benefit us. Having change is better than having no change, as there’s something to gain. And just as we did with the Prince of Veneta, we’re willing to negotiate with the heir of Renosa.”
Helmut threw out a warning.
“It could mean standing against the Temple.”
Black Hawk doesn’t know that Helmut has the Seed of Darkness.
But it was the Temple that cast Helmut into the Forest of Roots. They must know that it’s an irreparable relationship.
Talon answered readily.
“I know.”
‘There’s no need to tell them the full truth.’
Helmut would have to confront the temple to reclaim his rightful place, and the more allies he had, the better.
“I’ll consider your offer. My questions are done.”
Helmut declared the conversation over.
There was a slow flow in his chest as if something was blocked. But after his discussions with the King of Veneta and Talon, His mind cleared as if that blockage had suddenly opened. Helmut’s picture became clearer than before.
Talon handed him a small glass orb.
“You can contact me with that.”
[Secret communication between males? That’s suspicious.]
Elaga frowned for some reason. Helmut noticed something else.
‘It’s smaller than before.’
It seems Black Hawk has achieved some technological advancement in their own way. As Helmut turned to leave, Talon casually asked.
“How did you get out of the Forest of Roots?”
Helmut answered simply.
“A miracle.”
The first time had been a miracle; the second, skill. But neither had been mere coincidence.
As he was about to leave the room, Talon’s voice reached him.
“How much do you know about your friends?”
Helmut turned around. With the same unreadable, calm face, Talon continued.
“There must be a friend you don’t know well. They might be helpful to you.”
It was an incomprehensible yet somewhat comprehensible statement. After staring at him for a moment, Helmut turned his back again. That concluded their conversation.
Once they were alone, Elaga, who had been listening to the conversation with a bored expression, poked Helmut’s cheek with his tail.
[I’ve figured something out.]
“What is it?”
[Given how hesitant you’ve been, you’re not only weak but also a coward.]
Helmut immediately threw Elaga to the floor.
Kyaaaong! Despite Elaga’s fierce protest, Helmut left without looking back.
Although his shoulder where Elaga had been sitting was stiff, his mind felt refreshed.
*
That night, after returning to his quarters, Helmut swung his sword through the night.
It was an unusual night for him, as he had deliberately tried to get some sleep before.
Following countless trajectories drawn in the air, thoughts arose, reorganized, and repeated.
It was something he had never attempted before. It was also something that would change his life, which had been lived solely as a swordsman.
No matter how strong Helmut had become, reality wasn’t easy, and change was unfamiliar to him.
Now more than swordsmanship was required of Helmut.
Near dawn, someone visited his training ground.
“Helmut.”
Silver hair with cold light entered his view. Though it was a color that brought a cool sensation like the crisp dawn air, it instead brought warmth to his heart.
“Alea.”
Helmut slowly opened his mouth. Soon, the story of what happened last night flowed from his lips.
When he finished speaking, Alea calmly opened her mouth.
“I see. So you’ve made your decision?”
“Yes.”
“It goes without saying, but I’ll be on your side. However, the others…”
“I should ask their opinions.”
They were friends who had risked their lives together all the way to the Forest of Roots. Being honest with them was natural.
Helmut suddenly asked.
“Talon was talking about Asuka, right?”
“Yes, we still don’t know his identity.”
Asuka hid his origins even more tightly than Sian. As if he absolutely didn’t want anyone to know.
Though they could investigate if they tried, it wouldn’t be easy.
Alea hadn’t paid attention to him as she needed to focus on her research. Besides, Asuka was a thoughtless guy who posed no threat.
Alea muttered.
“More than that, now there’s someone who needs to make a choice.”
And they both knew who that person was.
Charlotte. Helmut’s younger sister and another heir to Renosa.
