Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 350 (Part 2):
Asuka immediately grabbed Sian by the collar, glaring and shouting.
“Don’t go mouthing off nonsense, and stop poking your nose in. This is exactly why I never told you anything in the first place!”
Sian replied as if it were absurd.
“So you’re not denying it? Charlotte’s a noble too.”
“All the girls at the academy are nobles. But Charlotte was… different.”
She knew Asuka was strong and acknowledged and respected him.
But that was beside the point. It wasn’t just because of the hierarchy in the swordsmanship department or simply following the academy’s rules.
Charlotte acknowledged and respected Asuka. Even if he was a commoner, she would have done so simply because he was her senior.
It was her nature. A noble and upright character, regardless of her innate status.
When she joined them in going to the Forest of Roots to help Helmut, Asuka felt the same thing.
She was the Grand Duchess of Renosa. But she was willing to risk her life and join them in saving Helmut.
Helmut could draw his sword against Renosa, so it wasn’t a calculated move.
Charlotte did it for one reason: because it was the right thing to do.
Charlotte had convictions and the will to uphold them. Sian had felt it indirectly throughout his time at Greta Academy, and directly as well.
Charlotte couldn’t be categorized within the framework of a noble. To Asuka, she was a rock jutting out of a flat world.
Sian summarized it simply.
“So you fell for her personality?”
This time, Asuka didn’t deny it.
“She’s a good person.”
“I know that in my head, but I’m not comfortable around her.”
“You don’t have to be comfortable around her. Charlotte probably isn’t comfortable around you either.”
“She doesn’t care if others are comfortable or not. In that one way, she’s just like Helmut. And do you think Charlotte sees you and me as different?”
As if struck in the gut, Asuka frowned. Asuka had been obvious about his feelings, but had Charlotte accepted them?
“She didn’t seem to reject it, did she? At least she didn’t show any signs of disliking it.”
“Being the only girl in the swordsmanship department, she’s probably gotten used to all sorts of rumors. You two haven’t even been on a date, have you?”
“I suddenly feel like hitting you.”
“Hold back. If you have any conscience, you should think about why I’m here.”
Asuka had no retort to that.
“But have you thought about it? Charlotte is the Grand Duchess of Renosa. The direct descendant of Grand Duke Renosa. She can’t be with a nobody commoner.”
Asuka visibly flinched.
“Charlotte is a noble, she distinguishes between nobles and commoners, and above all, she values her duties as the Grand Duchess of Renosa. So what are the chances of her ending up with you, a commoner? From where I stand, it’s zero.”
How could this guy not know something so obvious?
It wasn’t surprising, as Asuka always acted on impulse, thinking only of what suited him.
After a moment of silence, Asuka finally spoke.
“…They say the blood in your veins doesn’t lie. I’m still of imperial blood, right? I’m not inferior to the Grand Duchess of Renosa.”
Asuka seemed awkward saying it himself. While he hated the fact, he brought it up as a last resort when Charlotte was mentioned. There was a glimmer of hope in that.
Sian smirked.
“Can you just pick and choose when to be imperial or not? Even if you’re of imperial blood, how are you going to prove it? You’ve never been formally introduced to the empire, right? Do you think the Grand Duke of Renosa would allow his daughter to be with an unrecognized imperial? And Charlotte wouldn’t go against her father’s wishes.”
Asuka’s expression darkened instantly. Sian clicked his tongue.
At least a few things were obvious now: Sian was more thoughtful than Aska, had a better grasp of Charlotte’s outlook, and that Aska didn’t think things through.
Regardless of Charlotte’s feelings, the two of them were discussing Asuka and Charlotte’s future.
There was no way to know what she was thinking.
Besides, with Helmut about to take action, there was no telling what would happen to Renosa.
