Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 428 (Part 2):
*Thud thud thud thud!* The sight of a massive leopard, baring its teeth and radiating demonic energy, was not just imposing but terrifying.
Those watching from within the building felt their spines chill. Elaga slammed his body into the structure.
*Kwaaaang!* A tremendous crash echoed. The ground quaked violently, and the air’s tremor whipped up a gust that swept through the surroundings.
[Ow! That hurts!]
Moments later, Elaga flopped onto his side, rubbing his body against the ground.
The building was enveloped in a barrier. Inside, priests were focusing their minds to maintain it.
When Elaga charged, they had screamed Lumen’s name, eyes shut tight, pouring holy power into the barrier without faltering.
The central barrier, fueled by the remaining priests’ full holy power, withstood Elaga’s body slam.
Though a few priests coughed up blood and collapsed from the strain.
[Urgh, my fur!]
It was the first injury Elaga had sustained since entering the human world. Even crashing into a cliff, his demonic energy would’ve protected him.
But colliding with a wall of holy power was different.
Like touching a weakened version of the sacred barrier, his demonic energy had been pierced.
His flank, where he’d struck, felt as if it had been seared by fire. The fur in that area was gone, the skin red and blistered as if burned.
[That stings!]
Elaga lashed out, swiping at the barrier with his forepaw.
*Crack!* Smoke rose from his claw tips. An acrid smell spread, like burning bone.
His pristine white claws blackened and charred.
Elaga recoiled in shock, retracting his paw.
[What the—! My body’s getting wrecked!]
Elaga whined dramatically. It wasn’t a severe injury, but burns always hurt more than regular wounds.
He, who had barely been scratched even when fighting Baharek, the ruler of the west, was now in pain.
Holy power was indeed the natural enemy of demonic energy.
‘No wonder most demonic beasts wouldn’t stand a chance here.’
It seemed the number of humans squirming inside the building was dwindling.
A few more attacks like this might break the barrier, but it would come at the cost of further injury to himself.
Elaga’s demonic energy naturally replenished itself.
But here, with the air thick with holy power, his demonic energy was dissipating.
To recover, he’d need to get far away from this temple.
‘My wounds aren’t healing. Well, they’ll heal eventually, but my fur… it’ll take ages to grow back.’
Even an emperor couldn’t escape baldness, and for Elaga, fur was a similar concern.
He hesitated. He felt like causing more chaos, but the pain was unpleasant. Pain was something he disliked.
Elaga glared at the building.
Then, a woman appeared at the window.
Seeing her, Elaga narrowed his eyes.
[She looks like Susan.]
The woman reacted.
“Susan? How does a demonic beast know a human’s name?”
[Huh? She understood me.]
Elaga tilted his head. His telepathic voice was faint, almost a mutter to himself.
Yet she had picked it up. A human with sharp senses. That meant…
‘The leader? The boss? No, if she’s a priest… a High Priest!’
The temple was said to be governed by six High Priests. Elaga stared at the woman who resembled Susan—not Susan herself, but a High Priest.
Human women had a way of dulling his hostility.
But she raised her staff, her eyes blazing with anger.
With priests collapsing from pouring power into the barrier, she knew they couldn’t hold out long and had stepped forward herself—Levina.
“Yes, I am Levina, a servant of Lumen and one of the six chosen bearers of his greatest blessing. You, a demonic beast with intelligence, where did you come from?”
If any group knew the most about demonic beasts, it was the temple, not mages.
Over countless years, they had vanquished numerous demonic beasts, amassing knowledge.
But the beast before her, with its terrifying demonic energy, was unlike anything they’d ever encountered.
Possessing the intellect to understand speech and converse, it must have lived for an unimaginably long time.
Where had it been hiding?
[From the Forest of Roots.]
Elaga answered thoughtlessly, then caught himself. Levina’s face twisted in shock.
“You escaped the Forest of Roots?”
Elaga knew he shouldn’t mention escaping with Helmut.
He replied nonchalantly.
[Yeah, your barrier’s pretty shoddy, huh? Isn’t it your job to maintain the sacred barrier? You should check it out. It’s full of holes. Not just me—other beasts probably got out too.]
Igrelle had escaped as well, so it wasn’t a lie. Levina trembled in shock.
“That’s impossible!”
She was naive enough to believe a demonic beast. She was likely one of those who sent Helmut to the Forest of Roots.
Elaga added casually.
[Oh, by the way, my name’s Elaga. Call me Lord Elaga.]
Levina half-complied.
“Very well, Elaga. Why are you here? What’s your purpose?”
Suspicion clouded her eyes.
“Who sent you?”
With so many forces absent, a demonic beast of this caliber storming the temple was hard to see as unrelated to Renosa or Helmut.
The massive beast bared its teeth in a grin.
Its sharp fangs gleamed white, a chillingly terrifying sight.
