Suppressing her emotions with sheer will, Alea spoke.

[Head back to where we came from. Hurry.]

[Fine.]

Elaga glanced back reluctantly before retreating.

*Thud thud thud thud thud!* He dashed away like the wind, escaping the place. A fortunate thing, perhaps.

Killing a human who resembled Susan would feel unsettling.

Besides, contact with holy power was painful. Excruciatingly so.

It brought a searing pain, like burning flesh.

Having experienced it, he had no desire to face the Temple’s forces head-on.

He could win, but it would likely cost him all his fur.

Elaga had no interest in fighting to the point of injury.

His fierce battle with Naho had been solely because of Helmut. The reason he’d let that nuisance live despite the irritation was surprisingly simple.

He was no reckless brawler.

Elaga quickly revised his assessment of the Temple.

‘Is it because I’m a demonic beast? They’re not as weak as I thought.’

When he first breached the Temple, it seemed manageable. Small bursts of holy power couldn’t penetrate his demonic energy.

But a concentrated mass of holy power pierced his demonic energy and wounded his core.

The wound was small but painful and slow to heal.

It was indeed a threatening force to Helmut, who bore the Seed of Darkness.

‘What’s happening in Latona?’

Most of the High Priests and the Temple’s forces had gone there. Could Helmut and Renosa’s humans handle them? He wasn’t sure.

That question would be answered upon returning to Renosa.

For now, they had achieved their goal and escaped the Temple.

* * *

The blazing power of the sacred sword set his entire body ablaze with heat.

It felt as if divine power flowed through his veins, coursing through him.

Wielding divine power as radiant as the sun, Levant’s sword swung toward his enemy.

His foe, Helmut, seemed born and raised in darkness, wielding sinister power and cunning.

Helmut, Renosa’s heir?

Neither he nor the Temple could tolerate an impure force stepping into the light. By Lumen’s will, he would burn him to ashes.

But in that moment, Helmut’s form vanished before his eyes.

Levant had only recently gained the ability to wield such immense divine power.

Wielding such vast power inevitably dulled his reactions slightly.

‘No need to plunge into lava.’

Helmut seized the opportunity and launched himself forward.

Holy magic flew at him from all directions, but not all spells carried equal force.

He darted toward the weakest spell, slicing through it with his sword.

Maximum efficiency with minimal Vis. That was the principle.

If he foolishly tried to meet their attacks head-on, even Darien, unhindered by holy power, would suffer greatly.

*Crash!* The magic shattered against his blade, scattering.

Helmut cut down the Holy Knight beside him and seized his horse.

He no longer knew where his own horse was. But any horse would do, as long as it carried him where he needed to go.

Helmut knew the order. As long as the High Priests supported the Holy Knights from behind, and those knights had the skill to withstand his strikes, he was at an absolute disadvantage.

The High Priests would rain holy magic on Helmut, heal the knights’ bodies and strength, empower them, and aid them in various ways.

It was because they wielded the same attribute of power.

Mages could defend against holy magic and counterattack the Temple, but they couldn’t assist Helmut in the same way.

The role of a vessel to wield holy power.

‘That guy’s perfect for it.’

Unlike the other Holy Knights, he couldn’t be killed in one blow. Better to deal with him later.

He could take down the High Priests one by one first.

He’d already defeated him once. He’d proven his swordsmanship was superior.

Why face him head-on when he was relying on some cheap trick with the sacred sword’s power?

No one could wield such divine power without limits. If Helmut evaded, his strength would eventually wane.

Levant chased after him, belatedly.

“Where do you think you’re running!”

Fury blazed across his face.

He pursued Helmut fiercely, but obstacles kept the distance from closing.

Helmut ignored his presence entirely and spurred his horse forward. When an enemy charged, he cut down the Holy Knight and stole their horse.

He plunged through the gaps in their ranks. Before they could regroup, he tore through at maximum speed.

Moments ago, he’d located the High Priests. They held command in this battle.

Weaving through the barrage of holy magic, slashing and blocking with his sword, Helmut charged relentlessly.

He was already an army unto himself. No one guarded his back.

There was no retreating now.

He would plunge deep, confront the wall of High Priests.

And shatter that wall to pieces.
