Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 435 (Part 2):
‘Wasn’t she here yesterday too?’
Helmut briefly wondered if he should reprimand the guard.
‘Even if she’s my fiancée, is it okay for her to come and go in my bedroom like this?’
He had a right to privacy. Instead of pointing that out, Helmut addressed a more pressing matter.
“You did something dangerous.”
It was the heart of The Temple of Lumen. A place called the sanctuary. If they had hidden forces, Elaga could have been in danger.
Elaga was a demonic beast. Vulnerable to sacred power.
[Yeah, it was dangerous. My fur got singed off!]
Elaga grumbled, showing a paw where the fur had burned away, revealing pink skin.
There were no wounds, but striking the barrier had scorched the fur, leaving the skin exposed.
Alea spoke calmly, “The temple’s forces were focused on Latona, and facing them head-on would have been far more dangerous. If the bracelet I gave you activated, it means things were truly dire.”
Alea, in the midst of casting teleportation magic, hadn’t sensed the danger Helmut faced.
She was shocked later to find the bracelet broken.
‘I need to make a better artifact next time.’
Alea resolved.
“The bracelet was a big help. Thank you. But,” Helmut’s gaze hardened, “I’d prefer if—you didn’t act on your own like that again.”
It wasn’t arrogance or overconfidence.
He simply didn’t want Alea or Elaga to take risks where he couldn’t reach them.
They were the greatest treasures Helmut had gained in his life.
[If we’d told you, you’d have stopped us.]
Elaga muttered. Alea hesitated, then nodded.
“Alright.”
She figured she could persuade him beforehand. She was confident she could convince him.
Then, Alea asked the question she had been holding back.
“How’s your body?”
Helmut finally checked his condition. The minor wounds from battle had healed cleanly. He felt no pain.
Of course, his Vis wasn’t fully restored, but he’d be fine in two or three days.
“I’m fine. Could you check my seal?”
Alea placed her hand on his chest. Given they were in his bedroom, the position felt a bit odd.
Elaga made a snorting sound.
[Hmph, hmph, hmmmph!]
Helmut’s fist clenched.
“Elaga, shut up!”
It seemed the one in heat was Elaga.
After closely examining the seal around The Seed of Darkness, Alea withdrew her hand cleanly.
“The seal is intact. But why? Did you feel something off?”
Helmut recounted the ominous dream from the previous night.
While Alea listened intently, Elaga reacted dismissively.
[Just a bad dream. You must be emotionally unstable.]
Ignoring him, the two continued their conversation.
“You mentioned before that The Seed of Darkness feels alive,” Alea said.
Helmut nodded.
“I did.”
“Then it’s possible The Seed of Darkness is trying to tell you something, or you’re glimpsing something beyond through it.”
Helmut countered, “The Seed of Darkness isn’t like a demonic beast. It’s just a fragment of demonic energy.”
Alea’s words made it sound as if The Seed of Darkness had a will of its own.
There had been moments when he felt it did.
But that was merely the inherent nature of demonic energy. A force driven by destruction and slaughter.
That’s why demonic energy was called a power of darkness to be rejected.
Alea’s violet eyes gleamed with interest, as they often did when something intrigued her.
“No, The Seed of Darkness isn’t just a fragment of demonic energy. If it were, removing it would be simple. And removing it wouldn’t kill you.”
Her voice grew clearer.
“As you grew, The Seed of Darkness intertwined deeply with your essence, your soul, your mind. In doing so, it naturally developed a demonic nature. It could influence your subconscious. Conversely, you might be able to peer into it.”
“…Neither prospect is welcome.”
Helmut shook his head.
Considering all he’d endured because he was born with The Seed of Darkness, it felt unsettling.
He doubted he’d ever view The Seed of Darkness favorably or wish to commune with it.
A faint smile curved Alea’s lips.
“Darkness spreading, light piercing it, two forces clashing. This is worth looking into.”
It seemed something extraordinary was brewing. Perhaps it had been inevitable since they broke through the sacred barrier.
Helmut spoke.
“I need to see the Grand Duke.”
To hear the outcome of the war. And as the heir to Renosa, he still had duties to fulfill.
* * *
After the clash between Renosa and The Temple, the world was in shock.
The temple’s unbelievable defeat.
Renosa, standing alone, repelled the temple’s forces before reinforcements arrived.
The heir of Renosa, bearing The Seed of Darkness, tore through the enemy’s ranks with terrifying skill, capturing a High Priest.
Meanwhile, the temple, trampled by a demonic beast, teetered on the brink of collapse, and rumors of a giant white leopard spread uncontrollably.
The absolute was shattered, leaving only victors and vanquished.
The temple, branded with the stigma of defeat, was astonishingly silent.
Not a single statement was issued.
The holy war had failed, and the temple had lost its chance for revenge.
And it didn’t end there.
