Even when the fate of the world hangs in the balance, humans cannot help but weigh their interests.

Yet, there are those who, regardless of gain or loss, with possessions as vast as mountains, willingly stake their lives.

Such individuals are called heroes.

A voice, resonant with conviction, pierced the air.
“From Basor, we will send the Commander of the Palma Knights.”

A *tuk* sound fell silent. All eyes turned as one.

Helmut knew instantly who had spoken.

Luke Yeager. He was here, in this very place.

Though there had been no time for greetings.

Amid the flood of gazes, he stood with a face brimming with resolve.

Beside him, the Second Prince of Basor, visibly flustered, grabbed his shoulder.

It seemed this assertion had not been agreed upon.

But Luke Yeager’s gaze remained steadfast.

“If there is anyone better suited, I will gladly step aside.”

His eyes gleamed with an arrogance that suggested such a person could not exist.

Having grown remarkably while Helmut was lost in the Forest of Roots, he was considered the swordsman closest to the realm of Sword Saint, save for Helmut himself.

The heir of a Sword Saint and the mightiest warrior in Basor, the land of warriors.

With a vacancy for a swordsman, the Commander of the Palma Knights was more than qualified.

The Second Prince of Basor cherished Luke Yeager.

Though he tried to dissuade him, he soon recognized the unyielding will in Luke’s eyes and let his hand fall in resignation.

“Basor respects the will of the Palma Knights’ Commander.”

“Then three seats remain,” Heike said with a gentle smile.

Her smiling face seemed to scatter light across the conference hall.

Heike and Alea, two mages who looked strikingly alike, had drawn attention from the moment the meeting began.

Coincidentally, both had willingly volunteered for this incursion.

Heike narrowed her eyes and spoke provocatively.
“Are you all cowards? Why is no one raising their hand?”

To think that, in her twilight years, she would plunge into a battle for the world’s fate.

A remark like that was permissible.

At that moment, a clear, resonant voice cut through the hall.
“The Temple will dispatch two people.”

The ripple this caused was even greater, for the speaker was High Priest Levina.

With her chin raised proudly, she glanced at Agato.
“One of them will be me.”

“High Priest Levina!”

“I couldn’t join the Holy War. So, this time, it’s only right that I step forward.”

Her gentle tone held no trace of hesitation. Her resolve was firm.

Agato bowed his head. It was not merely a matter of taking turns.

While detained in Renosa after sustaining grave injuries, his holy power had not even recovered to half its strength.

To fully restore himself, he would need at least another month.

Paolo was dead, and the other High Priests lacked the experience for such a mission.

Levina was the only one who could step forward, and so he could only acquiesce.

Levina stated firmly, “The natural enemy of magi is holy power. Considering the composition, it’s only fitting that a High Priest joins the group.”

Two demonic beasts would accompany them on this journey. And there was Helmut, bearer of the Seed of Darkness.

Though unspoken, someone was needed to keep in check those who might sway to the Demon King’s side.

Someone with potent holy power.

Even without that concern, the Temple could not simply stand by while others fought the Demon King.

“Lumen’s blessing is with me, and as a High Priest, I must fulfill the mission entrusted to me.”

She had said *one* High Priest. Agato, sensing her implication, asked, “And the other?”

“Lumen’s First Sword, Holy Knight Levant. He will join us.”

He was the one who had fallen, utterly defeated by Helmut in the holy war.

Yet, as the wielder of the Sacred Sword, he had survived despite his mortal wounds.

Thanks to the priests who, even in their flight, had tended to him.

‘His body has healed, but his spirit…’

He had yet to recover from the lingering aftereffects.

For one raised as the greatest, successive defeats were a trial difficult to overcome.

Levina furrowed her brow.

But his survival meant he still had a role to fulfill as Lumen’s First Sword.

There was a reason the Sacred Sword had chosen him.

‘Lumen would not choose a weak spirit. He will rise above this trial and wield his sword once more.’

She had no worries. After all, she, the High Priest he trusted and followed most, would be by his side.

“Then only one seat remains,” the Crown Prince said, tallying the near-finalized roster.

There were nine in total.

The hall, briefly silent, buzzed with conversation once more.

The fact that such formidable figures had stepped forward made others reconsider.

With an Archmage and the Temple joining, the odds of success seemed higher.

This was a chance to stake a claim in a historic feat.

To be remembered as a hero who vanquished the Demon King.

What if such a hero hailed from their own nation?

The mission’s success was still uncertain, and there was no room to dwell on such ambitions.

Yet, the situation compelled them to do so.

The problem was that, with such remarkable figures already chosen, they couldn’t simply include just anyone.

Who could possibly step forward?

Even the commander of an average nation’s knights wouldn’t dare raise their hand. The Commander of the Palma Knights was already present, after all.

It would require someone of equal or greater caliber.
