Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 46 (Part 1):
Paul believed that together with Max, they could easily handle the boy. It wouldn’t take more than five minutes.
‘Let’s finish this quickly and wrap up the story with Black Hawk.’
Killing the boy would also serve as a way to vent his frustration for ruining his mercenary career.
He had no intention of needlessly delaying their attack by informing Black Hawk of what he knew. After all, they had to pass the initiation test.
Paul steeled his hesitant heart and said,
“Alright, you can go.”
“Yes.”
After the member of the Black Hawk organization left, Max noticed something odd and asked,
“Do you know him?”
“He’s a member of the Pace Mercenary Corps. You’ve seen him before, haven’t you?”
“Aah, that’s impressive.”
A bitter smile appeared on Max’s face, and Paul, wearing the same smile, gestured with his chin and said,
“Let’s go.”
Senses sharpening, he detected hostility aimed at him – almost instinctively. Even after leaving the Forest of Roots, his senses hadn’t dulled.
‘I’ve felt this presence before. Stronger than the ones who came before.’
Helmut moved as if he hadn’t noticed anything.
Ahead in the bushes. Even if they tried to hide their presence, the insects in that area unusually silenced themselves.
‘Such persistent ones.’
He couldn’t guess how the Black Hawk were tracking him. He should have left them alone from the start.
But the dispute had started from their end. Even if he thought about it, there was no other way.
‘I have no choice but to crush them this time as well.’
He intended to attack as soon as they emerged from the bushes.
However, the opponents didn’t resort to a surprise attack. As the bushes rustled with the sound of movement, two men walked out.
Their relaxed demeanor seemed to underestimate Helmut. The man on the left asked,
“Hey, do you remember me?”
Helmut looked at his face. His memory was excellent, but he would have remembered him regardless.
He was one of the few second-rank mercenaries Helmut had encountered, and a traitor of the Tariq Mercenary Corps.
‘Why has he appeared before me?’
Since they showed hostility, it clearly wasn’t for a good reason. Helmut decided to observe the situation for the moment.
Paul stopped ten steps away with a smile on his face.
“Your name was, ah yes! Helmut.”
“I know your name too, Paul.”
“Insolent brat, speaking to adults without manners.”
“Do cowards who run away have any manners to speak of?”
“You little!”
Max instantly reached for his waist. The truth hurts.
But Paul remained confident.
“Hey, calm down Max. Don’t get worked up over a kid’s mouth. So, Helmut, how did you survive out there? I thought the Pace Mercenary Corps was completely annihilated.”
Helmut cheerfully responded,
“By not running away like you, but fighting properly.”
“That wasn’t enough strength, right? There were several injured. No, let’s assume that’s the case. Then, how did you deal with that monkey beast? How could you escape the forest with the merchant?”
Helmut was the only one who could answer right now. Curiosity quelled Max’s anger.
They looked at Helmut patiently, waiting for him to speak. Helmut tilted his chin arrogantly.
“Wanna know?”
“You don’t seem very willing to talk.”
“There’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world.”
His arrogant demeanor irritated both Max and Paul at the same time.
“Fine, it doesn’t matter. You’ll beg to tell us soon enough!”
“Consider your luck has run out here!”
Paul immediately drew his sword. There was never any intention to spare him. After hearing what he needed, he planned to deliver only the severed head to Black Hawk.
Without a signal, Max also drew his sword almost at the same moment.
‘Second-rank mercenaries, both of them.’
Among second-rank mercenaries, Max and Paul were not of low standing.
Helmut’s lips curled into a ferocious smile as he met worthy opponents. His dark pupils narrowed instantly.
Regardless of their caution, their coordination was perfect. The stabbing attacks from both sides were fierce and sharp.
Indeed, they were qualitatively different from third-rank mercenaries. However, they intended to capture Helmut alive to make him talk, thus holding back in their attacks. Helmut inwardly scoffed.
‘They don’t know their place!’
Whether second or third rank, it makes no difference. It’s foolish not to recognize who they’re dealing with.
It’s arrogance for the weaker to challenge the stronger with such a mindset.
Helmut decided to make them pay for their arrogance.
With death!
