Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 460 (Part 2):
“Helmut.”
A quiet call pierced toward Helmut.
Helmut looked at him.
“Ethan.”
Having wrapped up affairs at the academy, the Greta Academy instructors had only arrived here at the very end.
It wasn’t a time to think about studies or anything like that.
An unprecedented suspension of classes had been issued in history.
Nearly all instructors from the academies in Baden had been drafted as support forces.
Each one of them was an elite, destined to defend the barrier.
“I’m glad we could at least exchange greetings.”
There hadn’t been time to visit Baden in the meantime. Time had flown by like a storm.
Ethan smiled faintly.
“It’s not a final farewell, so I believe you’ll return safely.”
The one before him was no longer the boy he had once been guardian to, but the young lord of the Grand Duchy of Renosa.
Ethan, with his attitude grown more deferential, fully grasped the meaning of that.
[Take care of Susan and Sarah. Ah, of course, you have to survive first to fulfill that request.]
Elaga’s solemn voice resounded.
Ethan looked at the white cat, whose eyes were earnestly serious.
“They are doing well. It was such a hassle trying to dissuade them from coming. Susan understood easily, but Sarah…”
She had insisted on fighting, claiming she had grown up in the Forest of Roots too, and even tried to follow while brandishing a wooden sword.
A trained Sarah would be more helpful than an average soldier, but it wasn’t right to bring along an average soldier, let alone borrow the hands of a child like Sarah.
[She seems to be growing up healthy and well.]
Elaga nodded in a way that seemed somehow pleased.
At that moment, a woman who had been standing quietly behind Ethan stepped forward.
“Hello, Lord Helmut. Do you remember me?”
“Instructor Patricia.”
Helmut immediately recognized her, the mage renowned at Greta Academy.
She, smiling brightly, had changed little from the past.
Compared to how much the students she had taught had bulked up to the point of being unrecognizable, her change was far less.
“I’m delighted to see you grown so splendidly. When Ethan told me the full story of the incident, I was so shocked.”
Patricia smiled sociably.
“It’s an honor as an instructor to see my students grown like this. When we erect a monument later, may I inscribe that Lord Helmut is a graduate of Greta Academy?”
“……Yes.”
It felt a bit against conscience to inscribe someone who had only attended for a mere year, but that one year for Helmut had not been an ordinary one.
It was fine to call him a Greta Academy graduate.
Asuka, startled by her appearance, lifted his chin and stepped forward.
“Instructor Patricia. Got nothing to say to me? You must know who I am by now.”
The corners of Instructor Patricia’s mouth curved up brightly.
“Well, if it isn’t Lord Asuka! It’s been a year since graduation, and you’ve risen so high in status? Among my disciples, you’re the one whose position has advanced the most dramatically.”
Asuka ground his teeth and pointed at himself.
“Of course, I’m royalty, you know. Royalty!”
You’re telling me the one you bullied for six whole years is royalty!
Asuka spoke as if demanding that she bow her head now that she knew. There were many pent-up grievances from that time.
Instructor Patricia tilted her head.
“But Lord Asuka. Do you think I treated you that way without knowing you were royalty? Or did I know and still do it?”
He had entered under strict secrecy, and the secret had been kept for a while, it was true.
But once Grand Duke Farnese’s side learned that Asuka had faced danger several times, they couldn’t just sit idly by.
From some point on, they had begun monitoring Asuka’s academy life.
So the instructors had naturally come to know as well. They knew, but that was it.
Asuka, twisting his face, shouted.
“You mean you knew and still hit me? That’s treason against royalty! Do you have any idea how many times you struck me?”
He had even been struck on the back of the head by Instructor Patricia until right before graduation.
Instructor Patricia replied coolly.
“Treason? What nonsense.”
Then she smiled brightly again.
“Greta Academy’s education is applied equally. Especially to royalty pretending to be commoners. Wasn’t it that you hid your status and asked to be treated that way? I did as you wished, so I don’t see the problem.”
Hiding one’s status and deceiving were different things.
Realizing that distinction, Asuka had nothing to say and trembled in frustration.
“In fact, I thought you behaved so outrageously because you wanted me to treat you that way, so I merely granted your wish.”
“Who wanted what? I didn’t!”
To Asuka, who bellowed, a serene greeting was offered as if nothing had happened.
“In any case, I wish you all success in your mission, and a safe return.”
Instructor Patricia, who had conducted herself with proper decorum, withdrew.
Ethan also shook hands with Helmut and stepped aside.
He had noticed that the High Priests’ preparations were nearing completion.
High Priestess Levina approached them.
“Have you all finished your conversations?”
The unexpected reunions had made the talks drag on.
Helmut nodded. Now, only those ten of them remained there.
“It seems you have deep ties in the human world.”
Levina cast those words with a somewhat novel look before moving to the center of the magic circle.
“We begin now. Please do not resist the sacred magic.”
Soon, a blinding white light, sharp as if piercing the skin, filled his entire field of vision.
