Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 461 (Part 2):
Helmut suspected.
“That impact midway. Was it the Demon King’s power?”
“Probably… But since he poured the power he would have used on the sacred barrier into us, he must be weakened a bit.”
“If we arrive quickly before he recovers, things might be easier.”
Alea said with a serious face.
“More than that, the two demonic beasts are the issue. Elaga… doesn’t seem to be nearby.”
“Igrelle too.”
If they had seen those flames, the two demonic beasts, whose senses should still be sharp in the Forest of Roots, would have rushed here the fastest.
That meant neither was in the vicinity.
Helmut felt the emptiness of the weight on his shoulder. Elaga had always perched there.
“This is serious.”
Before departure, Elaga and Igrelle had eaten concentrated pills made from the root of Rosetta, and some were held in their mouths.
But basically, since they planned to act together, they wouldn’t have many.
That meant they could turn into enemies.
They’d be fine for a day or two, though.
“We need to find them quickly. Even if we missed each other, they might wait for us near the central area.”
Then Helmut asked.
“But does the scent have an effect? No demonic beasts are attacking.”
“The scent only has an awakening effect. The reason they’re not attacking… is because there are no demonic beasts.”
Why are there no demonic beasts? The two exchanged glances.
It was strange. When they had come to the Forest of Roots last time, they had faced attacks from countless demonic beasts here.
Even while flying in the sky, hadn’t they crashed because of those persistent attackers?
The Forest of Roots had a high density of demonic beasts.
Yet, Helmut hadn’t been attacked on his way here, and the same for Alea.
Even though she had drawn attention by bursting flames into the sky.
“Someone else is coming.”
Helmut nodded toward the opposite direction from where he had come.
Someone was running diligently from over there. It was Luke Yeager.
Upon reaching Helmut and Alea, he exhaled a rough breath.
“Whew.”
And, placing his hand on his sword as if on guard, he asked.
“What are your names?”
“Helmut.”
“Alea.”
The answers came respectively. Only then did Luke Yeager sigh in relief.
He seemed to have heard about demonic beasts that mimic appearances somewhere.
“I’m glad. I was startled, thinking I’d fallen alone.”
Being dropped alone in the Forest of Roots, known as the demonic forest, would chill even the commander of the Palma Knights to the bone.
In the Forest of Roots, thick with ominous energy, with visibility barely secured, and alone at that.
Fortunately, Alea’s signal allowed him to find the direction.
Sweat beaded on his forehead from running at full speed amid anxiety.
“We’ve encountered a bit of trouble from the start.”
Helmut replied.
He looked around and spoke.
“This is somewhere in the north. It doesn’t seem near the sacred barrier.”
“Then we just head south? What about the others.”
“I don’t know where they fell. And… that speech pattern again?”
“Ah—this really isn’t the time for formalities… sir.”
He seemed to have been making an effort to speak formally.
Luke Yeager hurriedly added.
Helmut said coolly.
“Do as you’re comfortable here.”
“O-Okay.”
“We should get moving, but…”
Alea glanced around.
In this place where only occasional winds blew, there was a stillness as if not only demonic beasts but no living creatures existed at all.
“It’s strangely quiet. Not a single demonic beast.”
[All the guys underwater have gone into hibernation.]
Everyone flinched. A chill ran down their spines in an instant.
That voice was coming from the ground.
Beneath the thick ice they stood on.
They belatedly realized that a massive shadow rising from the seafloor was revealing itself beyond the ice.
“Kantara.”
Helmut pronounced the name.
It hadn’t been many months since he left the Forest of Roots, so it was a quick reunion.
From the perspective of a demonic beast who had lived a thousand years, it might feel like being tricked.
[So it was you, since there was a loud noise. Why are you intruding into my territory again? To torment me!]
Tremendous demonic energy rose from Kantara’s body.
*Crack. Craaack!*
The sound of cracks forming in the ice rang out as the ground heaved.
Helmut lowered his voice.
“Stop. We’re not here to harm you.”
Then Kantara’s movement halted.
When Helmut had asked to be sent back, Kantara had complied without harm, as promised.
Though he had appeared again, there was a trustworthy precedent.
[…Then why are you here. Besides, something strange has taken my subordinates away.]
A gleam flashed in Alea’s eyes. She asked.
“Tell us more about that. What happened in this place while we were away.”
