Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 466 (Part 2):
*BOOM! CRASH!*
Amid the furious sounds of their battle, the four scattered humans struggled to regain their bearings.
Fortunately, the demonic energy and wind erupting from the two beasts were altering the weather itself.
The surrounding fog was clearing.
Their visibility was restored.
Levina let out a groan.
“Ugh…”
She was the most physically vulnerable among them. But Levant shielded her like a wall.
“Are you alright, Lady Levina?”
“I’m fine. You, Levant?”
“Just a few scratches.”
“What about the others?”
“I told you I didn’t want to ride!”
Asuka snapped, picking himself up from a distance.
At the moment of impact, he’d drawn on his Vis to cushion the blow, rolling agilely to land like a cat.
Brushing himself off, he glared at Elaga, looking none the worse for wear.
“Argh! My body… my body…!”
Sian, exaggerating his pain, scrambled out of the swamp where he’d been half-buried.
He shot out as if propelled by fire, landing beside Asuka.
His spirits had protected him. His clothes, caked in mud, were a mess, but Sian quickly cleaned himself with a purification spell.
“Magic’s such a cheat.”
Asuka grumbled.
The two turned their attention to the High Priest and the Holy Knight.
Given the intensity of the collision, most would’ve been injured, but these were among the finest humans.
They’d all managed to protect themselves.
The four quickly regrouped.
Elaga and Baharek were locked in fierce combat. Through the thinning fog, their violent movements were faintly visible.
The shockwaves filled the air with noise and vibrations.
“Shouldn’t we help?”
Levina was the one to speak.
In the Forest of Roots, no demonic beast was stronger than Elaga, so left alone, he’d win. But if Elaga succumbed to the demonic energy and went berserk again, that would be a disaster.
“That’d be nice, but…”
Sian trailed off.
A tiger and a leopard, both the size of boulders, clashing. They couldn’t even fathom getting close.
Despite their size, their movements were dizzyingly fast.
Asuka’s gaze shifted.
“It’s not just that one.”
*Grrrrrr.*
A menacing growl echoed as presences gathered from all directions.
The aura of demonic energy, both large and small, belonged to demonic beasts that could make a name for themselves in the outside world—and there were countless.
A chill ran down their spines.
When two regional rulers clashed, lesser beasts should’ve stayed far away.
Yet these creatures, ignoring the holy power radiating from two of the humans, were targeting the four of them.
Asuka muttered.
“This isn’t the time to help anyone. Our first real fight with demonic beasts in the Forest of Roots.”
“I’m counting on you, High Priest.”
Sian glanced at Levina.
He’d never properly fought here before.
Levina and Levant, with grim expressions, raised their staff and holy sword.
It was the first time these former enemies would fight together. Whether this alliance would hold, only the battle would tell.
As the demonic beasts charged, the fight began.
—
[Something… from far… away… I feel… a disturbance.]
Kantara, who’d been diligently plodding along, tilted his head.
The others, drowned out by the sound of Kantara’s movement, exchanged glances.
But cautious creatures were often the most perceptive. None here surpassed Kantara’s sensitivity.
Helmut asked.
“A disturbance? Is someone fighting?”
[Um… it feels like… two forces… clashing.]
“Elaga and Baharek?”
Alea murmured. The Demon King had split them into two groups, dropping them in regions ruled by dominant beasts.
It was likely an attempt to pit them against each other.
To eliminate them or sap their strength, preventing them from stopping his revival.
What the Demon King hadn’t accounted for was that Kantara, unaffected by his control, was an exceptionally peaceful demonic beast.
Having been defeated by Helmut once, Kantara wouldn’t challenge him again.
The Demon King didn’t know this, but they did.
As a result, those in the northern region were relatively calm.
Kantara mumbled timidly.
[For some reason… I don’t want to… get closer.]
“This is still your territory. At least take us to the border.”
Helmut urged. Kantara was the fastest, despite being a turtle.
“If Elaga and Baharek are fighting, it should end quickly. No need to worry.”
Igrelle spoke up. Though reluctant to admit it, Elaga was that strong.
“But there are probably four others with them.”
Heike stroked her chin. Alea picked up her thought.
“If Baharek didn’t head to the central region, he might be in his right mind, like Kantara. But then he wouldn’t dare challenge Elaga, whom he’s lost to before. That means he could be under the Demon King’s control—or he might not be alone.”
“Likely.”
Helmut concluded.
He wasn’t worried about Elaga, but losing the other four would be a significant blow.
Two of them wielded holy power capable of dealing a critical hit to the Demon King.
Helmut stamped his foot. The vibration rippled across Kantara’s shell.
“Kantara, hurry!”
Kantara flinched as if whipped, picking up speed.
*Rumble!*
His short limbs skimmed the frozen ground.
But the ice was thinning, and the snow was noticeably less.
Soon, the original terrain would come into view. They were nearing the western region.
And it didn’t seem far off.
