Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 476 (Part 2):
The mages stepped forward and examined the state of the pit and the pillar.
Elaga also closely inspected the pillar of magi, which he was seeing for the very first time.
[That thing isn’t just unilaterally transmitting demonic energy.]
Alea nodded.
“It’s interacting.”
That pillar wasn’t simply transmitting magi from the entrance to the demon realm.
The tip of the pillar reached the very top of the blackened sacred barrier, where the Demon King was located.
There, the sacred barrier was repairing the corroded areas while fiercely clashing with the Demon King.
Helmut suddenly muttered.
“I think I get it.”
There was only one reason for the Demon King’s presence there. Because Helmut’s party had escaped through there, creating a crack.
Lingering in that crack, he was gathering the magi spread throughout the world and using the interaction between inside and outside to break the sacred barrier.
The Demon King’s goal was being faithfully realized. That pillar connected the inside and outside with magi.
Helmut said.
“To annihilate the Demon King, we first have to block that pillar.”
Cut off the interaction and sever the flow of magi. Then annihilate the Demon King in the sky above.
If one had to choose which came first, sealing the pillar was priority. The Demon King’s will led the demon realm.
Therefore, as long as the Demon King existed, they couldn’t completely seal the entrance to the demon realm.
But temporarily cutting off his power was possible. That was why they had come here.
“We need to split the group.”
Helmut declared. His mind was clear.
He was a human with the Seed of Darkness. Though the Seed of Darkness was suppressed, coming here sharpened his senses.
Some nameless knowledge awakened him.
“I, Alea, Heike, and High Priest Levina will head up.”
After a brief calculation, Helmut said.
They would wait above and strike the Demon King the moment the pillar was sealed from below.
Up there, they wouldn’t need many swordsmen.
Since they’d be near the sacred barrier, demonic beasts wouldn’t appear. The only thing they had to face was the Demon King.
And Helmut knew he had to go there.
An inexplicable premonition told him so.
On the other hand, below, unknown threats might be lurking.
Asuka, Luke Yeager, Levant, and Sian would stay behind to seal the entrance to the demon realm.
The entrance to the demon realm was in the ground. That meant it fell under the domain of the Earth Spirit.
If the others assisted, Sian could block the pillar.
Elaga’s role here was ambiguous.
Helmut was uneasy about leaving him behind. Elaga could turn to the Demon King’s side at any moment, just like the others.
Only the familiar presence of Helmut kept his reason awake.
But taking him along would bring him too close to the Demon King. If he went berserk in midair, it would be disastrous.
Elaga decided his own place.
[I have something to do here.]
His gaze was fixed on the entrance to the demon realm. Helmut asked.
“Can you hold out?”
[As I said, my mind is even clearer now. And I know what I have to do.]
Ironically, his demonic nature had given Elaga a knowledge no one else possessed.
A way to seal the demon realm that no one here could be certain of.
The Earth Spirit would know it too. Even if Sian didn’t, the Earth Spirit would guide him.
“You cannot let High Priest Levina go alone!”
Realizing late that his name had been omitted, Levant protested.
But Levina looked at him and slowly shook her head.
“Two people representing the temple are here. If there are two tasks, we must each be where our task is carried out.”
This was the moment their power infused with holy power was most needed.
Levant’s holy sword functioned similarly to powerful sacred magic.
He was a high priest in his own right. So his power might be needed to seal the entrance to the demon realm.
“I believe you will fulfill your duty admirably here.”
Levina smiled and lightly tapped Levant’s shoulder.
Levant reluctantly accepted.
“Please return safely.”
Neither path was easy. It wouldn’t be strange if someone died on either side.
They exchanged brief farewells. Hoping to meet again.
The same went for the others.
“You must succeed!”
Sian raised his fist toward those climbing onto the shape-shifting golem in bird form. It was a gesture of encouragement.
Helmut replied indifferently.
“If your side does well, then yes.”
“The Earth Spirit is omnipotent. It’ll take care of it.”
Sian said, hands on his hips. For a coward like him not to be trembling, the power of the spirits was truly remarkable.
Following Helmut, Alea, Heike, and Levina climbed onto the golem’s back and settled in.
Heike smiled and said.
“May everyone be safe. I hope we meet again under a clear sky.”
Levina also drew the sign of the cross and left words.
“May Lumen’s blessing be with you all.”
Alea simply glanced over the party.
“Let’s have a drink when we get out.”
“I feel like drinking until the bottles pile up.”
Asuka and Luke Yeager each tossed out a remark. Even with the grave mission ahead, their expressions were bright.
What they had thought would be daunting now had an end in sight, which was positive.
After the greetings, the golem folded its wings.
Crouching for a moment, the golem then kicked off the ground with force and soared into the air.
Carrying the four, it shot toward the top of the sacred barrier at high speed.
As the gust subsided and their figures faded, Sian looked around at the party.
“Well, shall we go too?”
Down into the pit, where who knew what might appear.
