Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 477 (Part 1):
Everyone climbed onto Elaga’s back.
Though he had escaped the role of pulling a carriage, he still hadn’t shed the fate of being a horse.
‘Is this the end?’
Elaga quietly gazed down at the entrance to the demon realm at the very center of the pit’s bottom.
Above it stretched an opaque black pillar, while the entrance itself was submerged in perfect darkness.
It almost resembled the shell of a beetle.
Even for someone as bold as him, throwing himself into this gigantic antlion pit that looked like a trap was something he deeply recoiled from.
Especially that thing called the demon realm’s gate. It felt like tentacles would spring out from inside and wrap around his body.
Nothing physical had ever emerged from the demon realm yet.
‘Helmut should be arriving any moment now.’
He couldn’t keep him waiting in the air for too long.
[I’m going!]
With that resolve, Elaga leaped down.
Kwadeuk!
The moment he landed, the sound of grinding sand rang out loudly.
He had jumped with all his strength to land as close to the entrance as possible.
Fortunately, it wasn’t a sand swamp. His feet didn’t sink deeply.
Without pause, Elaga immediately launched his body forward.
After a few jumps, he rapidly approached the entrance to the demon realm.
The black mist around the entrance enveloped him and obscured his vision, but Elaga did not lose his sense of direction.
The gate to the demon realm was emitting powerful magi, announcing its location.
‘What? This is easy.’
The instant he nearly reached the entrance, a chilling sensation washed over him.
Peok!
Something burst through the sand and lunged at his flank.
Elaga snorted and raised his demonic energy.
‘As if some little pest can break through the great Elaga’s demonic energy.’
But an unexpected situation unfolded.
That something slipped through his demonic energy without resistance and grazed Elaga’s side.
[What is this thing!]
Elaga quickly twisted away and frowned. Pain flared from the grazed spot.
Black smoke was rising from the wound. Elaga was utterly flustered.
‘It pierced my demonic energy?’
No, that wasn’t it. It had manipulated his demonic energy. The moment the thing dug in, Elaga’s demonic energy had naturally parted to make way. It was a phenomenon even Elaga couldn’t control.
‘More importantly, what the hell attacked me?’
“It’s under the sand!”
Someone shouted sharply.
Pusashak!
A violent noise erupted, and vibrations rippled through the ground.
The creature that burst up through the sand revealed itself clearly before their eyes.
Sian asked.
“What kind of demonic beast is that?”
Asuka answered.
“Looks like a guardian.”
Pasasasasa.
Emitting a bizarre sound, the centipede-like creature coiled over the sand, blocking the entrance to the demon realm.
Its form was similar to what Elaga had imagined.
Dozens of tentacles lazily whipped through the air. And the main body—
[You said there wasn’t a single one, but they were all here.]
Elaga frowned.
It was grotesquely ugly, even rarer to find in the Forest of Roots. Even Naho wasn’t this hideous.
The body resembled an overcooked, mushy octopus.
Its color was a deep purple, and the melted-and-clumped corpses of demonic beasts were embedded in it with gruesome malice.
Among them, some demonic beasts with rolling eyes still seemed alive.
A horrific shape befitting the term demon realm. Just touching it felt repulsive.
Elaga glanced at his flank. Blood was seeping out, and fur had been torn away. His teeth ground together.
“What will you do, Elaga.”
Luke Yeager drew his sword and asked.
They had grown accustomed to Elaga’s intense jumps and were clinging on perfectly.
They had even regained their composure and assumed battle stances.
“There’s a wound on his flank… It looks like that thing can pierce demonic energy.”
Sian quickly noticed and muttered. Elaga immediately denied it.
[No, that thing can manipulate demonic energy.]
Otherwise, it made no sense.
No matter how much power it drew from the demon realm, the demonic energy it emitted was less than Elaga’s.
It wouldn’t have the demonic nature to control that much power.
[I see, so it has the Demon King’s ability.]
The master of demonic energy was said to be the Demon King. It was truly the case.
His own demonic energy escaping his control!
The sensation was so smooth it sent chills down his spine. Fortunately, it seemed to happen only upon contact.
If that was the case, the problem was…
‘Does this mean I can’t fight that thing?’
Elaga wasn’t a human who fought with a sword. If demonic energy didn’t work, only close-quarters combat remained.
But even if Elaga couldn’t use demonic energy, the opponent could.
Fighting bare-bodied against something that freely wielded demonic energy. It was like facing a natural predator.
Even Elaga had no confidence in winning against such an opponent.
The tentacle demonic beast stood motionless, as if guarding the entrance.
They had to get past it to reach the demon realm’s gate.
