Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 63 (Part 2):
Around noon, in a room on the third floor of the Greta Academy dormitory, there was movement. The sunlight shone through the curtains. Despite the stinging light hitting his cheeks, the stubbornly closed eyelids suddenly trembled.
“Ah.”
Between the wide-open eyelids, purple pupils appeared and then disappeared again. Blinded by the pouring sunlight, the world seemed to blur white.
“Is it daytime?”
The person, who had fallen into a deep sleep as if dead inside the shadowy room, got up from the bed. Staggering, he moved in front of a mirror.
Having researched magic until dawn, he didn’t remember when he had fallen asleep. As he lifted his gaze, he saw himself in the mirror. Reflected in the mirror was a stunningly beautiful girl. The fatigue that briefly appeared on her face did not diminish her beauty.
Her straight silver hair draped over her shoulders luxuriously, and her flawless skin, delicate nose, pink lips, and deep-colored purple eyes were perfectly balanced, as if molded by the hands of a god.
Alea, who looked at her reflection in the mirror without any emotion, picked up a bracelet lying next to the table. When she put it on her wrist, it automatically tightened to fit perfectly. Normally, she would never take it off. But she had to take it off for a moment because of detailed magic research.
The appearance of Alea wearing the bracelet changed as if she had put on a mask. It was a subtle change. The lines became slightly thicker, and her physique changed. However, even that was enough to completely alter Alea’s appearance. Alea murmured the name of the magic.
“Disguise of Light.”
A magic that disrupts the light around the body to appear as a different figure. For example, making a woman appear as a man. Alea was tall. Since many mages, even men, tend to be small, as long as she looked like a man on the outside, she wouldn’t be suspected.
It was an artifact carefully made by a grandmaster teacher. The magic placed on it was not sloppy. Until the magic was broken, it was impossible to see through Alea’s true appearance.
“There was one person who was a bit quick-witted.”
Alea, who had been immersed in magic research for several days, remembered a name she had forgotten. Helmut. A guy with black eyes like a crow, inscrutable.
“He didn’t ask any more about what magic it was.”
After the tutoring was over, he probably lost interest as expected. It wouldn’t be a problem. Alea was completely unaware that Helmut had tried to use that magic as an excuse to forcibly make her tutor.
Alea opened the window. As he showed himself, a somewhat shrieking scream came from below. The noise of crows cawing. It was a familiar sound.
“It’s the New Year.”
Alea thought about going outside because she was hungry just then.
Helmut, who had left the Kudrow mansion, was walking towards the bustling area. He felt someone’s gaze from somewhere. Far away, three girls were looking at him with bright eyes. Helmut, with his unusually black hair, stood out as a boy. In fact, his features were noble and bright. If it weren’t for his stern and dangerous aura, there would have been girls who secretly liked him.
But not today. The three girls approached him with a somewhat hostile atmosphere and surrounded him. One of them asked with a snippy face.
“Hey, can you look at us for a moment?”
“What do you want?”
Helmut asked. They were faces he had seen for the first time. And this atmosphere, it was definitely not with good intentions. It was too tight to ignore and pass by the girls. The three girls boldly confronted Helmut, who had a sword.
“Who are you, what are you doing?”
“What’s your relationship with Alea?”
“You received tutoring from Alea, didn’t you?”
“Alea?”
The caste system, which was ineffective at the academy, was appearing here. It sounded more like an accusation than a question. When he remained silent, not knowing which question to answer, sharp voices followed.
“Why aren’t you answering!”
“Quickly tell us how you received tutoring from him!”
“What did you do?”
Surrounded by three excited girls, Helmut raised an eyebrow. Judging the situation, it seemed like this:
‘There’s no murderous intent, but there is hostility, not threatening. This seems like trouble.’
Blocking the way and confronting him, if it wasn’t trouble, then what was it? The answer was to teach them a lesson. However, the opponents were as weak and trembling as Xenia. If he touched them, they would probably bleed and faint. As far as Helmut knew, an academy fencing department student knocking down a powerless civilian was grounds for disciplinary action. Moreover, these three had only been annoying by blocking his way and hadn’t attacked him.
‘My ears are ringing. How do I get out of this without knocking them down?’
He had encountered big men before, but this was a bit tricky.
Just then, a familiar presence was felt. Someone’s figure entered Helmut’s field of view. Even with a hood on, he could recognize him (her). The silver hair peeking out below was noticeable. Alea glanced at him and turned away as if ignoring him. Helmut seemed to know a way out of this situation. He said to the chattering girls.
“Look, there’s Alea over there.”
He hadn’t forgotten that Alea told him not to acknowledge him. Since he didn’t acknowledge him but just informed them, Helmut judged there was no problem.
“What? Don’t lie!”
“Where? Are you trying to trick us?”
Thinking he was trying to divert their attention to escape, they didn’t even think to look back.
‘So, my words sounded like a lie?’ Helmut pondered.
Displeased by his silence, one of the girls raised her voice.
“Quickly explain your relationship with Alea!”
Then, something unexpected happened.
“Why does he have to explain that.”
Alea, whom he thought had left, appeared. Her sharp purple eyes scanned the three girls. The three girls looked at her in confusion.
“Alea!”
“Get lost. I told you with words.”
Harsh words filled the eyes of the girls, who seemed like they wouldn’t move for anything, with tears.
“You’re too much!”
Leaving them running away like tragic heroines, Alea sighed. They were the most docile among her followers, thankfully. Otherwise, they would have grabbed Helmut by the collar long ago. Alea tilted her head.
‘I’m not sure which is better.’
She glanced at Helmut, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time. She didn’t expect to run into him as soon as she went out into the street. It was too coincidental to be dismissed as mere coincidence. Seeing him surrounded by three girls, she was about to pass by without a care, but somehow her feet moved.
‘I shouldn’t cause trouble.’
She intervened because Helmut was a guy who didn’t know common sense and might do something unpredictable out of a sense of crisis.
